Agree with you Andy. Being self employed I always give a price for a job. That way I can be flexible day to day without any detriment to the client. If I get an emergency call or need to get off early for family commitments etc then it is up to me.

Very occasionally, when working for certain people then I would generally give them a day rate. (Normally it would be 8am-4pm). Certainly rolling up at 9.30-10am and leaving at 2pm is not a full day’s work in my opinion 🤦🏻‍♂️

Price work is always better. The guy was right to pay them only what they worked unless they had a prior agreement of so much per day. He should have pulled them up on day one about the hours they were on site

On large site now. All here by 7:30 no one leaves earlier than 16:30. The only guys paid by the hours worked are the agency boys. All here respect the client and honour their commitment in taking on this project. Thats just how good business works.

I’m work price. I have a cost to the business per day, then profit margin x amount of days for the job to be done. Day rate is either detrimental to the employee or detrimental to the employer. I can only ever see labourers getting day rate.

I price my work but to get to that price, I’ve worked it out based on how long it will take - not dissimilar to ‘day rate’. This client has had a few rogues in and failed to pull them on day 1. That’s a different topic. I’ve seen lads on day rate bursting their ‘balls’ to justify
