Who only works 40 hrs a week if you want to succeed in life?? Oh by the way if you don’t marry a millionaire, win the lottery or invent the next greatest thing then yes you will need to work the rest of your life like every generations before you!

40 hours a week at Walmart is not going to provide a living. At her age and even now I work over 50 per week in a trade. She is approaching it all wrong if she wants to provide herself a living.

We couldn’t have afforded to live alone 20 years ago either. That’s why we had roommate and worked our way up. Get a grip and stop crying. It’ll work out in the end if you work hard. It won’t if you don’t. Full stop.

I worked more than one job when I was first starting out. Oftentimes, I worked 60 hours a week and shared a 3 bedroom house with 2 other friends. Then I got married, and we both worked until we saved enough money to buy a house we could afford in 1982 when the interest rates were between 16 and 18%. Boo hoo.

She’s wrong about the timeline. 20y ago when Millennials were joining the workforce this era she’s referring to was already over. She means 30-40y ago

I don’t believe I’ve ever worked only 40 hours a week my entire life. I’m 57. Work is awesome.

@catherine_6907 Quit paying that hefty car payment; quit paying $1200 for smart phones & monthly bills….we didn’t have those monthly expenses….

All of you on here criticizing her don’t seem to understand her argument. Of course as a cashier she doesn’t make a ton of money. But her argument is that she can’t afford anything on that salary to try and afford to go to college. Rent, books, supplies.

Sweetie, you better buckle up b'c if you don't think you'll be working your tail off the rest of your life, think again. Especially if you plan on staying at Walmart. Also, we couldn't afford the bills on our own even 30 yrs ago so we found ppl we trusted to share in the bills.

What are you talking about lady? I had roommates until I could afford to live on my own. And do you know how tough it was not having any roommates, I was almost always broke until I got married.

Does she think ONLY gen z is suffering?! Its all of us.. The "system" is meant to work agaisnt ya.. If u dont have generational wealth or born into a rich family ur basically fucked the rest of ur life.. Unless u become an entrepreneur and make something of urself.. apparently it will never change..

Thats not true. A Walmart cashier was never making that kind of money. It's a starter job. Get skills. Get a better job. Get paid.

The actual difference between the generations when they all started in the work force is willingness to sacrifice. Gen Z has bought into convenience. Uber vs bus. Door Dash food and Groceries instead of cooking and shopping. Lastly… excessive spending on technology that is considered a luxury.

@political_busy My daughter moved out and had another friend move in with her they shared the rent until she could get something else and by then she met her future husband and they shared a place and the expenses. It’s called growing up and working for what you want in life.🤷🏼‍♀️

Maybe stop buying thousand dollar plus phones every other year and buying coffees and energy drinks every day, tattoos and piercings and work somewhere other than Walmart.

Blame Walmart for not paying you enough to make a living. While they sit on billions.

Xennial here. She's. Not. Wrong. You're arguing the wrong points and holding it against her. She's arguing that most jobs, including entry level at one of history's most profitable companies to have ever existed, and working full time SHOULD be enough to "bachelor pad," it up.

She’s not wrong. Any job that you’re working 40 hours a week should pay enough to make live on your own with adequate comfort. Not luxury, but adequate, with a little left over for savings.

Boomer promise: work 40 hours per week, and by 55-65 you can retire with full pension/benefits and own your home Millenials and Gen Z: work 40 hours per week, get a 2nd side gig and work 15-20 hours per week, never vacation, never go out, and maybe you can afford a home by 65

She's right. I was able to buy a house and live on my own back then. I drove a $400 car. I ate the cheapest food I could as my budget was $40 per week - can still be done for the same amount today. I didn't go out. I didn't "treat" myself. I saved as much as I possibly could.

We always had roommates at first. Even working (offshore) 84 hr a week jobs we couldn’t make it on our own. I’m a boomer. It’s always been tough. Too tough. When I was her age I was working 60-80hr weeks with every side hustle I could get my hands on. Unless your parents are 1%RS better get cracking Z it never gets easier. You are wasting time.

"20 years ago, when you were getting started, you could live on your own" Fact check---false. Roommates. We had roommates and lived in 800 sqft houses with one bathroom.
