Music is also competing with podcast and audio books, it used to be something singular.

def think iPods need to be brought back. We need the music separated from the phones. Losing the tangible product cost us more than we realize.

+ pre-iPod (digital music) sound was analogue. Sonically it’s still sweeter and tighter across the mix vs digital. You would know this, but most listeners have no idea. With that competitive music-in-media landscape, to your point, most people never will hear that difference.🤝

Makes sense cuz I’m literally watching this video while watching the World Cup and hinge is open on another tab.

Just had this convo with a friend and artists I work with. I’m working on some tracks that I hire musicians on and he was saying the song lengths were too long.. I told him “I’m making this for real music listeners, not to go viral or for ‘content’.” 🤷🏾‍♂️🥁🎸🎹🎷🤘🏾

Our phones is not an iPod lmao. iPod was strictly for music, it wasn’t for judging after the first week, the first listen to say it’s trash. If you thought that, you said it to yourself and maybe ppl close to you. You could make your own opinions on the music.

Russ when did you ever make music for iPods? To your credit you make microwave music and flooded the streaming services with it so you hacked the attention economy way earlier than most. Right message wrong messenger

It’s the same with the loss of MTV, VH1 and even Sam goody, although Im one of the rare people who thinks the loss CDs was actually good for music since they were a terrible product and would scratch constantly, but the loss of these central music places is beyond understated

Exactlyyyyy music is no longer for singular consumption but made to basically go viral leading to songs only having like 15-20 seconds worth listening to

damn I forgot those ipods existed. I only remember the ipod touch that was basicly a phone. I do miss the mp3 player days tho.

You’re speaking to an audience who have no concept of consuming music outside of their phones. The entire listening experience is now done 100% passively. They have no frame of reference for the process of acquiring music.

Facts. Also this is why new artists should seek out producers from that era.

No bro, iPods have nothing to do with anything. MUSIC JUST SUCKS NOW. It has been for quite some time. Specifically hip hop & R&B.

its not a stand alone artform as it was when the best songs had videos. because nobody could afford to shoot every video to every song. they go hand in hand. it just sucks everything is internet based and its a visual timeline not just audio.

So the music doesn't suck and the artists didn't change, the device did. No such thing as iPod music. Got the nerve to call niggas slow and I bet you really think this take makes sense.

@russdiemon you’re one of the few examples of someone who’s a hybrid of this. So much of your shit is hot singles but then when you drop the album and all the hit singles connect to your storytelling …no one has matched that success with keeping up with modern attention spans🤙🏻

I feel exactly what you’re saying. Music needs to be appreciated. It needs to give a feeling rather than be passive experience recently I cop this bootleg iPod & I had to go through my hard drives & upload all the mixtapes from datpiff era
