TRANSFER TUESDAY: Miami Hurricanes Football had one of the best portal processes of any team in the country, with UH transfer WR Sam Brown (Sam Brown jr.) being one of the best additions any team made to their WR room this offseason. Brown was a standout at Houston, and by most services was the top-rated WR in the transfer portal. A well-built (nearly 6’2, 195) perimeter receiver, Brown is a highly impressive athlete, boasting a 4.4 PAI (per Tracking Football), led by a 24’01 long jump (96th percentile), and posting a 4.45 forty and a 38 vertical in high school. He joins a now loaded, explosive offense for QB Cam Ward (Cameron Ward) and creates one of the best WR trios in college football with fellow WRs Jacolby George (Jacolby George) and Xavier Restrepo (Xavier Restrepo) Last year, he forced 20 missed tackles after catch, second-best among Big 12 WRs in 2023. I repeat: Morocco is the most pathetic AFCON host in history.🚮 World-class stadiums, village behavior. Embarrassing doesn’t even begin to describe it. Ball boys targeted Nwabali and took his towel vs Nigeria a few days ago. He reacted, and the whole country lost its mind! So Entitled. They did it again, with help from Captain Achraf Hakimi this time vs Senegal. He literally took Mendy’s towel and threw it to the ball boys to hide it. It got so bad that Senegal’s reserve gk,Yehvann Diouf, had to stand next to the post to hold Mendy’s towel, but the Moroccan ball boys went to attack him and dragged the Nice GK on the ground trying to take the towel. Professional footballers dragged by ball boys and the Federation awards Morocco FAIRPLAY award??💀 This embarrassing behavior can not go unpunished. CAF must never take football back to this country. I don't even want to talk about the officiating that got them to the final. Infrastructure alone does not qualify you to host AFCON. Respect and fair play matter, and this has been disrespectful to African football. Barbaric, at the least.🚮

Brysen Wright, RareBreeds 12U 6'2 180, Wide Receiver St. Augustine, Florida The best player on the field was obvious for Sunday's main event of the Youth National Championship presented by Battle Sports. Wide receiver Bryson Wright is the prototype as a pass catcher. Massive frame that is already Power Five ready despite still in middle school. He is filled out and with six-plus years of development before he can even enter a college weight training program, he passes the eye test better than most top wide receiver prospects in the 2024 class right now. An addition to the already star studded RareBreeds perennial Yfbplayoff winning squad, Wright has brought a 'Florida swagger' to a team that dominated 40-14. "The coaching." said Wright on what has elevated him to the top of his age group. "I've been working with the right coaching, learning how to not be selfish and always just do the best I can. Normally tall, bigger guys can't play the way I play. I'm athletic for my size and that's really the biggest part of my game that makes me different." Intangible-wise he checks every single box the same as his size. Wright was able to run multiple routes and did not simply rely on being the biggest skill position player on the field. He is a natural catcher of the football and showed it on a highlight-worthy one-handed grab in the left corner of the endzone early in the contest. On an in-breaking 10-yard route, Wright took a reception for 40-plus for a score proving he can mix in some explosiveness and speed to being a massive target. Ohio State, Florida State, North Carolina and Georgia are schools he hopes to hear from once he gets to the high school level, but he may not have to wait too long. College coaches are already taking notice of the advanced offensive weapon and he could end up one of the few middle school prospects to earn Power Five offers before even deciding where he plays high school ball.

While many around the league don’t expect any linebackers to be drafted tonight, if there is one, it certainly could be #TexasAM’s Edgerrin Cooper. Cooper is the most complete LB in the 2024 draft class. He’s shown to be: 1️⃣an elite athlete 2️⃣a consistent and impactful run defender 3️⃣a capable and efficient blitzer, and 4️⃣able to use his size and bend to disrupt in pass protection As a run defender, he finished with an 87.6 PFF grade, highest among any expected draft linebackers in this year’s draft class. That includes 15 TFLs or no gain plays. As you can see (🎥), his downhill force plus balance and control allows him to consistently win in the run game As a pass rusher, he had 7 sacks on the year, 4 of which came from playing on the line of scrimmage. When lined up on the line of scrimmage, he generated a pressure on over 30% of his pass rush snaps. Elite ‼️ And in coverage, he finished with a top-10 coverage grade int eh country last season (per PFF College) among LBs lined up in the box. He’s able to use his length and bend, along with developed vision and timing to disrupt plays from the box. Couple all of that with a 4.51 forty time and would-be impressive athletic testing numbers if he was 100% for the draft process (why he wasn’t able to officially go every day in practice at East-West Shrine Bowl), and it’s hard to ignore his NFL starting potential. There’s a real chance he goes in late round one, but if he’s there on Day 2, he may not only be one of, if not the, first linebacker drafted, but may be one of the first players taken on Day 2 of the draft. #ShrineBowlWhosNext

The 1994 NFL MVP: Steve Young 30 years ago, Steve Young delivered what many consider as one of the greatest seasons in QB history, earning his second MVP in three years, and the fifth MVP for the 49ers franchise, which was the most of any franchise at that point. Young had himself a generational campaign, with a passer rating of 112.8 (an NFL record at the time), 324 out of 461 completions, 3,969 yards, and 35 touchdowns. But Steve Young could run the ball, too. Enes Kanter Freedom, third overall pick in the 2011 draft, eleven NBA seasons, 748 games, six foot ten and 250 pounds, has declared himself eligible for the WNBA draft in April of 2027. Here is the part that makes it clever rather than merely funny. He is not claiming to be a woman. He said that "if simply declaring who you are is all that's required," then he meets every requirement, and asked only that the rules be applied equally. He went out of his way to say he is not mocking any community or anyone's personal choices. That is not a punchline. That is a compliance filing. Because this week a Fever coach said she lacked sufficient biological information to weigh in on males in women's sport, and a Valkyries forward said she would welcome a trans athlete on her team or against her team any time. Somebody wrote all of that down. So the league now has three doors, and every one of them is the story. Door one. They reject him because he is male. That concedes the category is biological, which is the sentence they have spent years refusing to say out loud, and Sophie Cunningham is owed an apology in writing. Door two. They reject him on some other ground. Age, tryouts, prior league, whatever the lawyers can find. This is football and what matters most in this world, family — A Cape Verde player cries with his wife and son after the match vs Argentina. He shouldn't cry. They gave it to the champs. Yeah the cinderella story ended, but people thought it'd end WAY sooner. Kudos to Cabo Verde, their run was legendary and we will never forget. Unfortunately, we won't see them again in 2030. No need for tears. They gave the reigning champions a run for their money. They didn’t win the Cup or the game but they won the respect of the World. They fielded the oldest team in the tournament, besides the legal problems with Mendes, 9 or more of them will retire before 2030. I'm not saying new talent can't impress, I'm just saying it's unlikely. They maximised the use of foreign born players. So, hopefully they will be back in the world cup again. They gave a fantastic account of themselves.

Confession from an England fan: there’s one thing in this whole US vs England war the Americans are just better at, and it’s time someone on our side said it. Not stadiums - Craven Cottage vs MetLife is two different conversations, 130 years of history and a billion-dollar engineering marvel can both be impressive. Not the football - England is the authority there, the most watched league in the world, where the stars play, same way the US is the authority on baseball whether or not they win the World Baseball Classic. It’s sports coverage. Any English sports fan who’s been to the States knows the feeling - wall-to-wall sport, endless channels, proper production, and you think: why don’t we have this? Even our players feel it. Marc Guehi in England camp this week: “Waking up, turning on the television and seeing ten sports channels in a row is top. It’s amazing.” And that’s exactly what CBS bottled. The best Champions League studio in the world is American-owned, European anchors - Abdo, Henry, Carragher, Richards - built by a producer who modelled it on Inside the NBA. They took the thing we envy about American sports TV and pointed it at our game. And it works better than our own product. The rest - the Tampa pitch outrage (it was a dodgy pitch), the USMNT record graphics (one knockout win ever, lads), the atmosphere wars (you like Coldplay concerts, we like limbs) - is noise. Let’s argue about something real instead... World War II.

We have also hammered the idea of the Lakers being a horrendous transition defense this season, and we know Ja Morant is at his most fun when he gets out in transition. Expect some easy assists on those plays here. Now as far as the Lakers, they don't hide their strategy of "you are either shooting or passing but you are not driving." While that last matchup was the one that started the drama with his comments about the coaches chewing him out mid-game, it did look like he was figuring out how to read it in the 2nd half. The Grizzlies would put Ja Morant on the wing in an ISO position, with everyone cleared out to the other side. The Lakers would have the big show EARLY help on the near side block. Ja Morant would then read the help of the big man and the weakside corner If the big and corner were helping early, he would drive and find the corner. If the big was helping and the corner wasn't, he would find the big on the opposite block. If the big AND the corner were waiting for him to drive before showing help, he would force the switch onto a lesser defender and put the Lakers into a position where they had to show help. And as far as the rebounding, Ja Morant's defensive role is simple: When there is a corner camper, matchup with the corner camper. With no Reaves, and not matching up on Luka/Lebron, we know this will be the case and should keep him in uncontested weakside rebounding position on any deep shot attempts. This is why he has had 11+ Rebound Chances in 3/4 against the Lakers.
