Just look at the crack spread. Look it up if you don't know what that is or don't. A crack spread is the refining margin: the difference between the price of crude oil and the prices of the refined products made from it. It is how the market prices the profitability of turning a barrel of crude into gasoline, diesel, and other products. Refineries “crack” crude oil by heating and separating it into lighter products. The spread is the gap between what they pay for the crude and what they can sell those products for, after adjusting for how much of each product a typical barrel yields. The standard benchmark is the 3-2-1 crack spread:
