🔴While Zimbabwe is struggling to complete the US$85 million Mbudzi Traffic Interchange project in Harare since 2022, with the initial completion deadline of 31 July 2024 having come and gone amid setbacks, China built one of best-known roads in the world - the Yaxi highway, part of the Beijing-Kunming Expressway, which connects the cities of Ya'an and Xichang, in just five years at a cost US$3 billion. The 240-kilometre section - which is like slightly past Kwekwe from Harare heading towards Bulawayo - in Sichuan province from Ya'an to Xichang, known as the Yaxi Expressway, is nicknamed the ladder to heaven or highway above the clouds. Located in southwest China's Sichuan province, the Yaxi highway is an engineering marvel with 270 viaducts and 25 tunnels. In Zimbabwe, such a simple interchange project has taken three years and yet still the completion date is unknown. The Zimbabwean project cost is extortionate and controversial. There a world of a difference between Zimbabwe and China in terms of scale, but the most shocking thing is that Harare has virtually learnt nothing from Beijing, its purported all-weather friend.

As Zimbabwe’s election moves from being shambolic to disgraceful, this is the current situation in the township of Mufakose in Harare. The two provincial opposition strongholds of Harare and Bulawayo have suffered from choreographed voter suppression. This has created a huge opportunity for the ruling ZANUPF to rig the election, and it did it brazenly!

I was humbled to be called to the stage in recognition of the work that myself and many progressive Zimbabweans at home and in the diaspora continue to do. The struggle for a democratic Zimbabwe is sustained by collective sacrifice, consistency, faith, and hope. We remain committed. We remain resolute. We remain hopeful. Zimbabwe shall be free. 🇿🇼

The Bird has landed! 🇿🇼✈️ Air Zimbabwe’s Airbus A330 has arrived at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport ahead of the historic resumption of direct Harare–London Gatwick flights on 22 July 2026, operating three times a week. This route reconnects Zimbabwe directly with one of its largest tourism, business and diaspora markets after a 14-year absence. In 2025, approximately 190,000 passengers travelled between Zimbabwe and the United Kingdom, with the Harare–London market accounting for nearly 108,000 two-way passenger journeys, despite travellers having to connect through foreign airports. With about 302 seats per flight and three weekly return services, the route could provide more than 94,000 passenger seats annually. It will reduce travel time and connection costs while boosting tourism receipts, diaspora travel, trade, air cargo, hotel occupancy, airport revenue and employment. The service will also help Air Zimbabwe retain revenue that has historically benefited foreign airlines and transit hubs. Is there a viable business case for Air Zimbabwe relaunching the Harare London route, through a wet lease or otherwise? I remember flying both Air Zimbabwe and British Airways. AirZim was cheaper, but its flights were often delayed and barely occupied. BA was usually full. To succeed in a highly competitive industry where even SAA has struggled, Air Zimbabwe must completely re-engineer its business model and work twice as hard to win customers. Convenience alone is not a convincing moat.

Alert ⚠️ A sad development: today some people claiming to be 🇿🇼 ZANU PF PATRIOTS 🇿🇼 youth invaded the only place that we are left with which is designated for a sporting facility in Budiriro South and are building houses. This is the second time in a year this place has been invaded. Some guys from the opposition tried to take this place some time beginning of this year and I managed to stop them with the support of the residents. I am appealing to the government, the council and all the stakeholders who can help us save this place to kindly intervene. We cannot allow our kids to be disadvantaged by these unscrupulous people. I went an extra mile to look for funding and support to have this place converted into a world class sporting facility. The argument for conservation of wetlands and green belts in order preserve waterbodies in the country and in particular Lake Chivero has been reiterated over the years but ignored. The 'war' is now lost as the Zanu PF Government gave an open cheque for party-connected land barons to willy-nilly sell residential and commercial stands around Harare. A brazen example but just a drop is Longchen Plaza (run by people connected to top Gov officials) built in the world famous Monavile Wetland running adjacent to the National Sports Stadium. This hospital, according to UZ Vice Chancellor, Prof Paul Mapfumo, will offer specialised medical services to Zimbabweans and beyond. Someone asked me in my inbox about the real reasons behind Zimbabwe’s economic collapse, the lack of medicines in hospitals, the highest inflation in the world, and a troubled local currency. I told them that I was tired of explaining, so I sent them this video that lays it all out, with an explanation from Zimbabwe’s Director of the National Prosecution Authority, Loice Matanda Moyo, who is also the former Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission and a High Court judge. She explains that these problems are caused by corruption and the looting of public funds. She gives a conservative figure of US$1.8 billion, which she says is what Zimbabwe is losing annually through looting. Let me tell you what US$1.8 billion can do for Zimbabwe. All six central hospitals need US$60 million a year to run smoothly, without shortages. US$1.8 billion would run all of Zimbabwe’s hospitals for 30 years. Zimbabwe’s biggest hospital has only one maternity theatre, built in 1977, and as a result, 2,500 women die giving birth each year. It costs only US$37,000 to build a maternity theatre. US$1.8 billion would build 48,648 maternity theatres, yes, forty-eight thousand, six hundred and forty-eight theatres. Take the Harare to Plumtree road, for example, look at its quality. US$1.8 billion would build 1,800 kilometres of that kind of road. That is like building the Harare to Beitbridge road three times over, or the Harare to Durban road with another 121 kilometres to spare. So, to people who are thinking clearly, it is not sanctions that have destroyed and continue to destroy Zimbabwe, it is corruption. The Director of the National Prosecution has said it, you would have to be a clown of note or a dunderhead to still argue that sanctions have caused these problems when you have the figures in front of you and when the person who handles criminal issues on behalf of the Zimbabwean government has laid it out for you. Such kind of foolishness would be incurable, now do us a favour and RETWEET for others to hear this too!
