IGP DISU ATTENDS UN CHIEFS OF POLICE SUMMIT, CALLS FOR STRONGER GLOBAL POLICE COOPERATION The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, has reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to strengthening international policing cooperation as a critical pathway to advancing global peace, security, and sustainable development. The IGP made the call while participating in the Fifth United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS 2026) held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 7th to 8th July 2026. The summit brought together Ministers, Inspectors-General of Police, Chiefs of Police, and senior representatives of regional and professional policing organisations from across the world to discuss strategies for strengthening international peace, security, and development through enhanced collaboration between national police services and United Nations policing. Addressing the summit, IGP Disu noted that modern criminal networks increasingly exploit artificial intelligence, encrypted communications, and cyber-enabled platforms to operate across borders with growing sophistication, thereby challenging traditional policing models. He emphasized that while technology presents significant opportunities for law enforcement through artificial intelligence, digital forensics, and geospatial intelligence, public trust remains the foundation of effective policing. According to the IGP, innovation must reinforce transparency, accountability, respect for human rights, and adherence to the rule of law. The IGP further advocated greater international cooperation, capacity building, and equitable access to digital policing capabilities for all member states, stressing that the benefits of technological advancement should not be limited to a few technologically advanced nations. Nigeria's participation at UNCOPS 2026 underscores the country's continued commitment to supporting global peacekeeping efforts, strengthening international law enforcement partnerships, and contributing to collective efforts aimed at combating transnational crime, terrorism, cybercrime, and other emerging security challenges. 🪖🇷🇺🇵🇰 Russia and Pakistan step up counter-terrorism cooperation The 12th meeting of the Russian-Pakistani Working Group on Countering International Terrorism was recently held in Islamabad. Sultan M. Hali, a military analyst and former Pakistani Air Force colonel, shared his views with Sputnik: 🔸 This bilateral format fills a gap that multilateral platforms like the SCO and the UN cannot address — they are slow and constrained by bureaucracy. 🔸 Pakistan values Russia's counter-terrorism experience from Syria and the North Caucasus, particularly in urban warfare, drone suppression, and counter-insurgency. Cooperation with Moscow also provides Pakistan with political cover within the SCO and the UN, reinforcing its image as a responsible stakeholder in regional security. 🔸 Russia's expertise in surveillance, cyber defense, and counter-drone systems complements Pakistan's operational needs. In return, Pakistan offers decades of counter-insurgency experience, including counter-IED tactics, hostage rescue, and urban clearance operations. 🔸 Its border management expertise — especially along the porous Afghan frontier — offers insights into infiltration patterns. Pakistan's deradicalization programs, such as the Sabaoon initiative in Swat, provide lessons beyond kinetic operations that could prove valuable for Russia in Central Asia. "This meeting should be seen not as a one-off event, but as part of a longer trajectory," Hali noted. He added that Russia is diversifying beyond its traditional partnerships with China and India, while Pakistan is broadening its security diplomacy beyond ties to the US, Saudi Arabia, and China.

2/2 Highlighting Pakistan's counter-terrorism record, the prime minister said the country had sacrificed over ninety thousand lives and suffered economic losses exceeding USD 150 billion over the past two and a half decades in the fight against terrorism. As chair of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure (SCO RATS), he said Pakistan had worked actively to strengthen regional counter-terrorism cooperation, while reiterating that peace in the region would remain elusive so long as terrorist elements continued to use Afghan soil to attack Pakistan and other neighbouring countries. On regional connectivity, the prime minister said the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor continued to serve as a gateway linking regional economies to the Arabian Sea, and reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to trans-regional railway projects, road connectivity initiatives and regional energy schemes. He called for full implementation of the SCO Development Strategy until 2035 and said the establishment of the SCO Development Bank would be a critical step in that direction. He noted that Pakistan, as permanent chair of the SCO's Special Working Group on Poverty Reduction, would continue strengthening social protection and inclusive development across the region. The prime minister in concluding his address said that just as many streams together made a mighty river, the combined strength and aspirations of SCO nations held limitless potential. He expressed hope that history would record the SCO as an organisation that chose cooperation over confrontation, dialogue over division, bridges over barriers, and hope over fear. Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif also signed the joint declaration of SCO Council of Heads of State Summit. The summit was attended by heads of state and government of SCO member countries along with SCO Secretary General Nurlan Yermekbayev.

A HIGHLY SIGNIFICANT VISIT TO SLOVAKIA The President of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, today paid a visit to the Slovak Republic, accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising senior representatives of the executive branch and the Presidential Court. I held several hours of friendly and substantive working talks with His Highness, building on my official visit to the United Arab Emirates in October last year. We agreed on concrete cooperation regarding a major infrastructure project on the Danube River in Bratislava, and we will continue to advance the projects already initiated in the field of the defence industry. Our discussions also covered a public-private partnership (PPP) project in Slovak agriculture focused on irrigation, as well as the potential entry of an investor from the United Arab Emirates into Slovakia's state-controlled spa sector. Among other topics, we asked His Highness to support the establishment of a direct air connection between Bratislava and either Dubai or Abu Dhabi. The visit of such a prominent global leader to Slovakia is yet another confirmation of the soundness of our sovereign foreign policy, which is open to cooperation with partners in all directions. We also took the opportunity to exchange valuable views on the current security situation in the Middle East and in Ukraine. On a personal note, I would like to add that this meeting further strengthened our friendly relations. President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan once again demonstrated that he is an exceptionally pragmatic, rational, and visionary leader. In this context, I expressed my appreciation for his significant contribution to safeguarding stability in the Middle East through his leadership. The President of the United Arab Emirates is among those world leaders who firmly place peace before war.

Glazyev: To Halt Western “Hybrid War,” Eurasia Must Cut Off Financing for NATO’s Military Machine MINSK – In a sweeping strategic address, Russian State Secretary Sergey Glazyev declared that the path to peace and security for Eurasia requires a financial and technological “divorce” from the West, explicitly framing the continued use of NATO currencies as direct financing for a “global hybrid war” waged against them. Speaking at the III Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security, Glazyev presented a stark geopolitical choice. “Our conference is called ‘Global Disorder,’” he began. “However, we observe disorder only to the west of Belarus. To the east of Minsk and in Belarus itself, everything is in order… The center of the world economy is shifting to Asia. Here, the core of a new world economic order is forming. And our Western adversaries do not like this at all.” The Core Mechanism: How Eurasia Finances Its Own Oppression Glazyev’s central thesis was that the current financial architecture directly fuels Western militarism. He laid out a precise economic argument, stating that NATO’s $1.5 trillion in military spending is funded by debt, which is in turn financed by the global use of its currencies. “The easiest way to stop the arms race is by ceasing the use of NATO countries’ currencies,” he stated unequivocally. “Because to the extent that we use the dollar, euro, and pound, we finance their defense expenses.” He provided a staggering figure: “The total volume of [Western] monetary issuance last year was five trillion dollars. Of this, two and a half trillion dollars is what the Eurasian states, among others, have taken on. If we stop using these currencies… we will practically halve the financial potential of the global hybrid war.” He called for a complete purge of Western currencies from internal circulation, noting that in Russia alone, entities hold “$600 billion in foreign currency loans,” which he labeled an undermining of economic security. The Ethical Battlefield: Lies, Theft, and a New Moral Charter Glazyev contrasted what he called the West’s “banditry and theft” with a shared ethical core among Eurasian nations. He pointed to the Minsk agreements on Ukraine as an example of Western deception, accusing Western leaders of negotiating with a “hidden agenda.” “In the US, their satellites have completely destroyed international law… The World Trade Organization is not functioning, the norms of the global financial system are violated, and the generally accepted norms of business ethics are ignored,” he said, endorsing the Belarusian-led “Charter of Multipolarity and Diversity” as the ethical alternative. He announced concrete steps to build this new system, revealing that work is “already underway to create a large social network that would unite hundreds of millions, maybe billions of citizens, who are ready to adhere to traditional norms, ethics, and follow their commitments.” The Digital Front: From Cyber-Terrorism to Technological Sovereignty Identifying information security as a critical battleground, Glazyev accused NATO of “systematically and consistently resort[ing] to cyber-terrorism,” including hacker attacks and embedding “software terminators.” He reiterated Russia’s long-standing push for an International Convention on combating cyber-terrorism, which he said the US and its satellites refuse to sign. “This means they are openly declaring that they will continue cyber-terrorism against anyone they consider their opponents.” As a countermeasure, he proposed a regional Eurasian convention that would include “an embargo on countries that do not join.” The Unifying Eurasian Vision Glazyev synthesized his argument into a definitive three-pillar strategy for security: “Thus, dear colleagues, the refusal to use the currencies of NATO countries, the refusal to use their computing equipment and information technologies, the creation of a social network and a union of moral and ethical common values, will give us the opportunity to form a truly strong foundation for Eurasian security.” He framed this foundation as the key to realizing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s vision of a “large Eurasian partnership” and a “common cooperation zone from Lisbon to Vladivostok.” Expressing confidence that a “common sense” faction in the EU—citing Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic—would eventually join, Glazyev concluded that these steps are a decisive contribution “to strengthening peace, cooperation, and security in Eurasia.” Video: AI-Generated Dub ⬇︎

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif while addressing the SCO Plus Format meeting held in Bishkek, today, called water a "lifeblood" of the region to sustain millions of lives and secure the future of coming generations and said that it must never be weaponised or used for political coercion. "Water is the lifeblood of our region that sustains millions of lives, nourishes our lands and secures the very future of our coming generations. It must never be weaponised or used for political coercion. The treaties governing our shared waters are binding commitments that must be honored unconditionally both in letter and spirit," the prime minister said, addressing the SCO Plus Format meeting here, a day after the Permanent Court of Arbitration ruled that 1960 Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) remains in full force and ordered India to limit ongoing hydroelectric construction in Kashmir. Addressing the event, themed "The UN as a Key Element of the Just World Order: The Contribution of the SCO Plus States to the Formation of a Multipolar World," he said that as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, Pakistan has been actively contributing to global peacemaking over the past two years. The meeting was chaired by the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov as the country holds the rotating presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization from 2025 to 2026. "Our humble peace efforts culminated in the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. It provides the most viable and enduring pathway to end the ongoing conflict in the Gulf region, and offers a widely accepted basis for all parties to pursue peace through dialogue and diplomacy." He said that Pakistan was also a signatory to the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement along with Saudi Arabia and Turkiye that has further strengthened prospects for peace in the region by sending a message of unity and common resolve. The prime minister said that, having been established 80 years ago, the United Nations adopted collective approaches to deal effectively with poverty, hunger, disease, environment, and many other challenges of our times and that Pakistan also remained fully committed to its Charter. He said that the rising multipolar world was an opportunity to build a more equitable, democratic, and just international system. "But today, the UN is urgently in need of reform. It must become more accountable and responsive." Calling the situation in Gaza and the West Bank "deeply troubling", Prime Minister Shehbaz called upon the international community to act decisively to end the suffering of the innocent Palestinian people, and uphold their inalienable right to self-determination. "The same rights must also be granted to all other oppressed nations," he urged.
