Remember when the word recession was supposed to be scary? Canada officially entered a technical recession this week, and historically, that would have been a significant headline. It would have raised concerns about jobs, investment, business growth, consumer spending, and the overall direction of the economy. Today, it barely moves the needle. If you're like most Canadians, your reaction to the report was probably something along the lines of, "Awesome. What else is new?" Every few months, Canadians are given a new economic buzzword to worry about. Inflation. Interest rates. Tariffs. Housing bubbles. Now it's a technical recession. The media runs headlines. Politicians point fingers. Economists argue over charts and percentages. Everyone suddenly becomes an expert, while most ordinary Canadians are left wondering what any of it actually means for their day-to-day lives. As a millennial, I've spent my entire adult life hearing some variation of the same economic warning. Recession. Inflation. Housing crisis. Cost-of-living crisis. Rising interest rates. Stagnant wages. Every few years, there's a new headline, a new concern, a new reason Canadians should be paying attention. At some point, you stop paying attention. Not because you don't care. Because you've heard it all before. I'm 36 years old, and Canada has entered its 5th technical recession during my lifetime. They experience it through grocery bills, mortgage payments, rent increases, childcare costs, and whether there's any money left at the end of the month to put towards retirement or savings. Eventually, it shows up in bigger ways: postponing children, delaying homeownership, working overtime, or realizing the future they imagined keeps moving further out of reach. What I find most interesting is that even after Canada officially entered a 'technical recession', much of the media conversation focuses on reassuring Canadians that it isn't as bad as it sounds. We've become completely desensitized to what a recession actually means. Not because the definition has changed. Because our relationship with the word recession has changed. We've spent decades normalizing economic decline until it became background noise. At some point, ‘recession’ stopped sounding like a warning and started sounding normal. When History Warns Us, We Must Not Ignore It We never expected the Chief Minister of Keralam to take such a position under any circumstances. But on this issue, we need to look back at history. Because the people of Keralam have every right to ask: whose political pressure is behind this decision of the Chief Minister? When we examine the history of Vande Mataram, one thing becomes clear. This is not a political issue that emerged yesterday. During India’s freedom struggle, Vande Mataram became a symbol of national consciousness and the spirit of freedom for millions of Indians. The Muslim League was formed in 1906. During the 1930s, opposition to certain portions of Vande Mataram became increasingly prominent among sections of Muslim political leadership, including the Muslim League. In 1937, the Congress moved towards adopting the first two stanzas of Vande Mataram for official occasions. This remains an important episode in our history. But one thing must be made absolutely clear. This is not an allegation against the Muslim community. Many Muslims participated wholeheartedly in India’s freedom struggle and sang Vande Mataram as part of the national movement. Therefore, today’s debate is not against any religion. It is a debate about political positions concerning nationalism. But history also raises another important question. In 1937, political opposition emerged over the use of Vande Mataram. Subsequently, the politics demanding the partition of India became stronger, and ultimately, in 1947, the country was divided. That is why, when in 2026 a position is being taken in Keralam that Vande Mataram need not be sung, a natural question arises: Where will such political compromises take us? What will the state of Keralam’s national consciousness be ten years from now? If we begin making political compromises over one national symbol today, what will prevent similar compromises on other national symbols tomorrow? That is the question Keralam needs to debate today. We have even witnessed situations where a teacher faced serious consequences merely because a question about Veer Savarkar was included in a quiz competition. When a historical figure, an idea, or a national song becomes subject to political pressure, it should concern every democratic society. That is why the BJP is bringing Muhammad Ali Jinnah into this discussion today. This is not a discussion about one individual. It is not a discussion about one religion. Nor is it a discussion against any community. It is a discussion about the future of nationalism. If we want to ensure that history does not repeat itself, we must learn from history. Those who say today that Vande Mataram need not be sung—who can guarantee that tomorrow they will not question another national symbol? If we continue surrendering our national values to political pressure, what we ultimately stand to lose will not merely be the words of a song—it will be our sense of national unity. Therefore, our message to the Chief Minister of Keralam is very clear: Do not surrender nationalism to political pressure. No one needs anyone’s permission to sing Vande Mataram in Keralam. Every Indian has the right to embrace this national song, which inspired the freedom struggle of our country. Even if you do not sing it, Keralam will sing it. Even if you exclude it from government programmes, the BJP will ensure that Vande Mataram and the National Anthem are sung across Keralam. Because the Bharatiya Janata Party will stand at the forefront to protect the national consciousness of this land. As long as Narendra Modi leads this country, we will not allow politics opposed to India’s unity and integrity to take root on this soil. There will be no compromise on nationalism in Keralam. When history warns us, we must not ignore it. We must learn from history. We must not allow history to repeat itself. AI just hit a wall that no amount of money can move. The planet itself. There is not enough power, water, or land on Earth to build the data centers the AI race now demands. So the most valuable bet in artificial intelligence is no longer a chip company or a model. It is a rocket company. The plan is to leave. In January, SpaceX filed with the FCC to launch up to 1 million solar-powered data center satellites into orbit. In February it bought xAI, the maker of Grok, folding an entire frontier AI lab into a rocket company in the largest corporate merger ever recorded. On June 8 it unveiled the AI1, a compute satellite with a 70-meter wingspan, wider than a Boeing 747, powered by the sun, cooled by the vacuum of space, and wired to the ground through Starlink. Four days later it went public in the largest IPO in history, near 1.77 trillion dollars, touched 2.1 trillion on its first day, raised close to 86 billion, and made one man the first trillionaire alive. Now read the direction of that merger, because it is the whole story. A rocket company bought the AI lab. Not the reverse. For three years everyone assumed the constraint on AI was chips, or data, or talent. It is none of them anymore. It is energy and heat and dirt. The head of Anthropic said his company grew faster than the exponential, 80 times in a single year, and that is exactly why it ran out of compute. The answer was not to build more data centers in Virginia. It was to leave the atmosphere, where the sun never sets and a solar panel does five times the work. The moat in artificial intelligence is no longer the model. It is the launch. And the first rent is already being paid.
