After 16 months without a President, the Judicial Selection Committee elected Justice Yitzhak Amit as Israel’s chief justice this week. In response, Justice Minister Yariv Levin, who boycotted the proceeding, announced that he does not recognize the authority of the new President and will not meet or work with him. Without ongoing cooperation between the two, the daily administration of the entire judiciary will be hampered, causing further backlogs and reducing efficiency.
