Kobane remains under siege... There is no electricity, no water, no medicine, no basic necessities for life, and no food. France meets with Kurdish leaders but is unable to break the siege on Kobane. The leaders of the [Kurdistan] Region, despite all their connections and relations with the international community and Turkey, have been unable to lift the blockade on Kobane. Despite five phone calls between Barzani and Jolani has not lifted the siege on Kobane. The DEM Party, despite the number of its deputies in parliament and its political weight, could not compel Turkey to allow 25 aid trucks to enter Kobane, even though there are three border crossings within or near the city. All the negotiations of the SDF and the Autonomous Administration with Damascus, the entry of Jolani’s security elements into Kobane, Hasakah, and Qamishli, and the appointment of the Governor of Hasakah have so far failed to pressure for the lifting of the siege on Kobane. Kobane, which is considered the symbol of the defeat of ISIS, has been under siege by the Syrian terrorist army for more than three weeks. El Fasher has been under siege for more than 18 months, and WFP says there are no indications that trade routes have reopened or that supplies have begun entering the city since the RSF takeover on October 26, 2025. At the time the city fell, an estimated 200,000 to 260,000 civilians were residing in El Fasher. WFP now estimates that 70,000 to 100,000 people remain trapped, while those who managed to flee are arriving in Tawila and other areas with little shelter, medicine, or clean water. Satellite imagery and survivor accounts from El Fasher point to mass killings, burned bodies, and abandoned markets across the city. WFP says it has no partners on the ground, no verified reports that community kitchens are operating, and that healthcare, markets, and basic services have been effectively obliterated. The Yale Humanitarian Research Lab has previously suggested a low estimate of 60,000 killed, with as many as 150,000 people unaccounted for. More than 650,000 people are now sheltering in Tawila, a former desert town about 60 kilometers west of El Fasher, overwhelmed by displacement from El Fasher and Zamzam camp. Many families are living in makeshift grass or straw shelters, disease outbreaks including cholera are spreading, and humanitarian assistance is failing to keep pace with the scale of need. The first ship from the Nuestra América flotilla has arrived in Havana, Cuba. Sailing from Mexico for the last 5 days and bearing much needed aid, including medical supplies and sanitary products, it’s part of the Nuestra América convoy. Hundreds of activists from Europe, South America and the United States have joined that convoy, travelling to Cuba to stand in solidarity with the Cuban people as they endure a prolonged, US-imposed energy blockade. Onboard was Brazilian activist Thiago Ávila, no stranger to such flotillas having travelled to Gaza last year in the Global Sumud flotilla. Their attempt to break the siege on the enclave was thwarted by the Israeli military, with hundreds of people taken into Israeli custody. The flotilla “shows that the people of the world will never leave Cuba alone”, Ávila told Novara Media, “And that we do not fear US imperialism, and we don’t accept to be ruled by big banks, the military-industrial complex or the Epstein syndicate. Never.” Ávila went on: “We are going to mobilise for the just causes in this world - just as Cuba always did.” The siege of Cuba has seen rolling blackouts since January 2026, when US president Donald Trump blocked the shipment of oil from Venezuela to the island while threatening sanctions against any country that tried to intervene. That culminated in an island-wide blackout last Monday, and another on Saturday. Now, water supplies in some parts of the country have been affected too.
