The first phase of our sit-in protest in front of the European Parliament in Brussels and Strasbourg has come to an end. Over the course of these five days and nights, thousands of committed and justice-seeking individuals from near and far stood with us. Together, we called on the European Union to end its double standards in defending human rights. The European Union cannot claim to uphold women’s rights in principle while engaging in diplomatic relations with terrorists in practice. It cannot normalize a system that legitimizes repression and human rights violations, stand in complicity with those who silence women, or reward those who criminalize education. Throughout these five days and nights, we urged the European Union that if freedom and human rights are not merely tools or slogans, then it must: • Recognize gender apartheid in Afghanistan. • Refrain from normalizing relations with the Taliban and formally designate this group as a terrorist organization. ⸻ The European Union must put an end to double standards and break its silence; for in the face of such ظلم and oppression, silence is not neutrality—it is complicity with the Taliban. We sincerely thank all the free-spirited people and supporters who stood by us with their presence, solidarity, and support.
