A research preprint was published in 2024 under the title Ancient genomics support deep divergence between Eastern and Western Mediterranean Indo-European languages. It examined the spread of steppe-related ancestry and its relationship to the early diversification of Indo-European languages across the Mediterranean. The study analyzed 314 ancient individuals from multiple regions across the Mediterranean and surrounding areas, including Syria, Lebanon, and Egypt, alongside hundreds of previously published ancient individuals. Strontium isotope analyses were also conducted on 224 individuals. We also prepared a video summarizing the preprint, highlighting its main findings and the genetic data included in the study.
