The final report of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into COVID-19 Lessons Learned was handed down last week. Although the report included substantial criticism of New Zealand's mistakes in its response, it did not give them prominence. Instead, the report focused only on process errors - specifically process rather than medical errors - especially advice failing to reach decision-makers and the repeated failure of politicians to follow the advice they did receive. It turns out they were not following the science after all. Specific criticisms of the response included youth vaccine mandates for 12 to 17 year olds. On 9 December 2021, the COVID-19 vaccine technical advisory group gave clear advice to the government that the risks of COVID-19 transmission among under 18's were "insufficient to justify mandating a two-dose schedule" and that it may “add unnecessary risk of myocarditis." The politicians did it anyway. The bureaucrats who gave this advice kept their mouths shut. The former Director-General of Health, Ashley Bloomfield, was subsequently knighted and is now at the World Health Organisation running the International Health Regulations. The knighthood was obviously not for services to honesty and transparency. Furthermore, Auckland was kept under Alert Level 4 for 32 days longer than the Director-General of Health advised. These 32 days were over the Christmas period, causing massive social harm during a Christian holiday. The commission notes that this contributed to unnecessary social and economic disruption for businesses and families, which is a huge understatement. Jacinda Ardern clearly shares Prime Minister Albanese's desire to break the bonds of family, community, and Christianity. Finally, there was a failure to clearly communicate the risks surrounding COVID injection harms, especially myocarditis in young people, which eroded trust in both the government and the medical profession. No kidding! The evidence continues to pile up. Last week, Dr. Helmut Sterz, Pfizer's former European chief toxicologist, testified before Germany's Bundestag coronavirus inquiry commission. He stated that the carcinogenicity and mutagenicity tests for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine were never conducted, and that reproductive toxicity tests were defective. This violated standard protocols and enabled an untested mass roll-out, yet billions of dollars in sales rolled in anyway.

The complete playbook for building profitable companies in the AI age 1. Go heads down 2. Find an underserved niche + trend backed by data (start small) 3. Learn their painpoints/what content drives them 4. Come up with an idea (or steal one from Idea Browser) 5. Build an audience/community (pick 1 platform) 6. Use Manus/v0/Bolt/Lovable/Cursor to build v1 7. DM your audience, offer a discounted version 8. Reinvest that cash to fund product/content flywheel 9. Keep team small (AI is your co-founder) 10. Automate ~90%+ with agents/zaps etc 11. Reinvest profits into content + core features 12. Partner with creators in exchange for equity (1–20%) or rev share (20–50%) 13. Keep surfacing new ideas from users + trends (use agent feature on pro Idea Browser) 14. Build public-facing tools to drive top-of-funnel 15. Add modular pricing: free → $29 → $299 → $3K 16. Turn manual services into productized features 17. Build in public to attract users, partners, and acquirers 18. Bundle into an ecosystem, not just a single feature 19. Own the loop: audience → product → content → more audience 20. Run sprints on retention (fix that leaky bucket) 21. Backfill with AI agents before hiring ops roles 22. Test new channels with throwaway brands 23. Monetize the backend, sell data, leads, APIs if applicable 24. Have fun 25. Repeat. Build a portfolio 26. Share hires, tools, and infrastructure across products 27. Acquire underperforming products with distribution upside 28. Relaunch or bundle existing apps using your playbook 29. Create a holding company brand people want to follow (this is exactly what im doing, practicing what im preaching) 30. Build long-term wealth with no outside investors and infinite spins 31. Cross-promote wins across your product ecosystem to drive flywheel growth 32. Create an internal idea-to-launch pipeline (every 30 days, something ships) 33. License or clone successful products into new verticals or geos 34. Recruit niche operators to run individual products for cash + upside/profitshare 35. Build once, compound forever... audience, code, and trust all stack This is the greatest time to be an idea person. Happy building.

How Ed Stack turned Dick's Sporting Goods into a $20B empire: 1. Never rely on the kindness of strangers. 2. Your name is your biggest asset. 3. The person who talks the least is usually the decision maker. 4. Sometimes the most profitable decision on a spreadsheet is the worst decision for a business. 5. Good businesses don't need debt and bad ones can't handle it. 6. When the data and the anecdotes differ, you're measuring the wrong thing. 7. Trust isn't earned in the easy times; it's earned in the fire. 8. People are rarely buying just your product. 9. Give the underdog a chance. They want it more. 10. Not knowing what you're doing can be an asset. 11. All money comes with strings. 12. Your competition always has something to teach you. 13. Always bet on yourself. 14. Learn from mistakes, but don't over-learn them. 15. "The moment a business stops evolving, the moment its leaders sit back and think, 'Everything's good,' that's when it starts to fail." 16. Problems are opportunities to add value. 17. Play the game to win. 18. Become someone people want to help. 19. Investment bankers are not your friends. 20. Manically focus on the numbers. 21. The recipe is boldness mixed with caution. 22. What you get out of anything is directly proportional to what you put in. 23. The spreadsheet is not the customer. 24. Arguing teaches you how to think. 25. If you go into a deal with a win-win mindset, it almost always works out. 26. Clever excuses don't make anything better. 27. Every business is someone's irrational dedication. 28. The most important element of success is perseverance. 29. Always let people keep their dignity. 30. The cost of making others happy is losing yourself. 31. Do right for the company. Do right for society. You can't prosper unless the community around you prospers. 32. Divorce is awful, here’s true lessons from going through it... 1. Marrying well is the biggest life hack of all. 2. Marrying poorly is a costly path to misery. Choose wisely. 3. When someone gets divorced I often say, “I’m sorry and congratulations.” Usually there is pain and freedom. 4. Money makes people a shell of themselves during divorce, do not fall to that level. You can make more money later. 5. There is always an exit tax on freedom, expect it. 6. Careful of shadow influences, people who whisper in the ear of your former spouse fear and pain that can take an amicable divorce and turn it into a nightmare. 7. Find someone who has walked the path before you, taboo subjects will leave you feeling lonely and alone. 8. It is going to be ok. If you learn from this, you will be better. And likely so will your spouse. 9. Mediation, arbitration, trial. Avoid trial at all costs, try for mediation. Cheaper, faster, less contentious. 10. Find an attorney who lists on their website they help do divorce amicably, if one spouse has a wartime attorney, it will turn into war. Try to avoid that. 11. Grab your loved ones close. A place to stay, a friend to wake up to, a person to watch movies into the night. 12. Don’t allow anyone to shame you. Of course you wanted it to work, hopefully you tried hard. Those who secretly want divorces are often the loudest to yell at you for your choice. 13. Tears. You will shed a lot of them. It’s ok. 14. Find something to look forward to, a trip, a project. You can get lost looking at the past, look forward. 15. You can find incredible love and commitment after this, I did. It will take work but it will be worth it. 16. Write daily and often. Pain will be repeated until you learn from it. 17. If no one else says this to you, and you have given it your all, and your marriage is truly not right… you are making a very brave move. Hold your head up. 18. You will lose friends. They will choose sides, they won’t all choose yours. BUT the real gems for you will. 19. People will talk about you. Who cares.
