Its a GM product, as long as it starts which judging your gauge cluster is a very early 2000's GM truck probably a round eye/cat eye. Their gauge clusters love to spaz out but usually the truck will start and drive.

Mine is a 2001 Suburban. I pretty much have the same mindset—as long as it runs, I’m happy! 😂 Though Japanese vehicle inspections don’t always agree with that mindset… lol I don’t really mind rust, scratches, or dents either. I think they just add character to an old truck.

Mhm, 95' Silverado here though her gauge cluster works fine. Rear lights tho dont work anymore in running mode but they still light up under application of the brakes or turn signals. Good ol GM wiring

solder on the pcb is brittle need to be reflowed. got a loose resistor or something

That does seem like the most likely scenario. Since it only happens occasionally and resolves itself if left alone, I'll check the circuit board if the situation worsens.

I'd just start tracing the wiring harness, might be a ground fault, could just be the solder on the gauge cluster is getting old. Btw, that is a very clean looking 2001 Suburban, you're taking really good care of it.

Thanks for the information! On a personal note, I bought the vehicle from a shop that specializes in Suburbans and Tahoes, so it’s in really good condition. The shop told me it could be repaired, but since the issue only pops up occasionally and resolves itself if I just leave it be, I decided not to worry about it 😅 I’ve installed a separate GPS multi-meter anyway, so personally, it doesn't really bother me.

If I remember correctly this is just a common issue with instrument clusters from that generation.

Believe it or not, this is actually a digital gauge cluster. It uses electronic stepper motors. These gauge clusters are notorious for failing, so if you want you can just buy a whole replacement cluster that's been refurbished and you'll have no problems.

Hello from America, fellow GMT800 owner here. Look up the electrical ground locations, when they get corroded they tend to cause the problems you’re experiencing. There are a few in the engine bay, on the back of the engine block, firewall, and some that connect to frame. Easy to clean!

had that happen in my z28, alternator went out then battery died while driving. the gages did the same before the engine cut off, made a loud pop like a flame out on a jet.

If the instruments flicker when you hit a bump or pot hole on the road when driving = a loose connection. Check connector plugs under the instrument panel I have seen bad connections in there too. A faulty battery can cause this type of issues too. Replace every 3 years maximum.

トヨタ車ですが昔ボディアースへ接続された配線のカシメが錆びたような腐ったような状態が原因で似たような症状が出たことあります 磨いても改善せずカシメの端子ごと取り替えて直りました ご参考まで
