1943年1月7日、マンハッタンのニューヨーカー・ホテルで死去。享年86歳であった。検死の結果死因は冠動脈血栓症とされた[19]。晩年は金銭苦に陥り、亡くなった時点でほぼ無一文であった

He died on January 7, 1943, at the New Yorker Hotel in Manhattan. He was 86 years old. An autopsy revealed that the cause of death was coronary thrombosis [19]. In his later years, he suffered from financial difficulties and was nearly penniless at the time of his death.
