制作中のMUCOM88 VSTiとメガドライブ実機を、Itoken（itoken/いとけん/イトケン⁨【いとけん でんき⚡公式アカウント】🆗）さん制作のMAmi-VSIFケーブルでつないで、リアルタイムに音を鳴らすデモです。 DX系のSysEx、VGM、MDX、さらにはAdLibなどのOPL系まで、様々な形式のFM音色を、事前に変換する手間なく、マウスで選ぶだけですぐにMD実機で演奏できます。 実機特有のラダーノイズで、「あ、メガドラの音だ！」ってすぐに分かりますね😁

MMLもFM音源パートだけならMD実機でそのまま演奏できます。PC-88のYM2608とMDのYM2612はFM部分の互換性が高く、音程を補正して転送しています。PSG・PCM・リズム音源は両機種で構成が異なるため、現在はFM部分のみの対応です。 MDで聴く「Flash Flash Flash」もなかなか良いですね😄

@SNDR_SNDL Pretty cool but MUCOMM88 is Windows only, right? Will it be ported to Linux? How does it compare to Inphonik's RYM2612 Mega Drive plugin?

Yes, MUCOM88 is currently Windows only. Linux does support VST/VST3 DAWs such as REAPER, Bitwig Studio and Ardour, but I haven’t decided on a Linux port yet. RYM2612 is a great YM2612 synthesizer emulation, while MUCOM88 is a bit different in concept. It’s more of a complete MUCOM/MML composition and playback environment inside a VSTi, with real-time editing, support for importing various FM instrument formats, and even communication with real hardware. So there is some overlap in the FM synthesis side, but the workflow and purpose are quite different.

@SNDR_SNDL Oh, I get it. It's almost like a DAW (composition tool specific to Mega Drive) within a DAW. Compared to the using DAW for composition to a virtual Mega Drive (RYM2612) right? Waveform is native on Linux, too. Check that one out! I'm very excited to try it.

Yeah, that’s pretty close. I’d describe it as something like an MML sequencer/composition environment and sound module living inside your DAW. It’s not strictly MD specific, since MUCOM88 is originally based around the PC-88/YM2608 environment, but now the FM parts can also be played directly on real MD hardware. So yes, the approach is quite different from using a DAW to sequence a virtual MD synth like RYM2612. And thanks for mentioning Waveform! I’ll check it out when I get a chance.

もし古代さんがいつか実機の代替手段を必要とされることがありましたら、Nuked-OPN2というエミュレーターを使って、「YM2612」モードを選択することができます。 Nuked-OPN2はYM3438をベースにしていますが、「YM2612」モードではラダーエフェクトも忠実に再現されています。
