Through our Community & Wildlife Service... Division, we learned of this extraordinary act of kindness. However, while her intentions were noble, keeping wildlife - even out of love - is against the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act (WCMA), which protects wild animals and ensures their wellbeing in their natural habitats. The cheetah was safely taken in by KWS officers and handed over to our veterinary team, who conducted a full health check to ensure it was in good condition, collected samples for laboratory testing, and administered treatment for parasite control. Now under expert care at the Nairobi Safari Walk, the cheetah continues to thrive as part of our conservation and education efforts. This morning, a four-month-old lion cub was found alone, weak, and starving in Block 16 of Nairobi National Park. Believed to have been left behind by its pride due to its inability to keep up, the cub was in critical condition. KWS veterinary team acted swiftly rescuing the cub and transferring it to the Nursery at the Nairobi Animal Orphanage. At the facility, our vets administered antibiotics and intravenous fluids. The cub is now under close monitoring and being fed to help it regain strength. Once fully recovered, it will be reintroduced into the wild as part of KWS’s rewilding efforts. In just the past three weeks, our team has conducted four lion cub rescues: • Two were in critical condition; sadly, one did not survive. • One is now a permanent resident at the Nairobi Animal Orphanage. • And today’s rescue was made possible thanks to nature enthusiasts who spotted the cub and alerted the park management. During the rainy season, tall grass and shifting herbivore patterns often make it difficult for carnivores to hunt effectively. Understanding this, KWS is currently conducting a feeding intervention, providing meat daily to the pride residing in the park to help them regain their strength and resume natural hunting. #ConservationInAction #NairobiNationalPark #TunzaMaliYako

In late January, Tango was rescued from the illegal wildlife trade in Somaliland, and transferred to the Cheetah Rescue and Conservation Centre (CRCC) in Geed-Deeble. Estimated to be approximately eight months old at the time of her rescue, Tango was confiscated from a private home, where she had been restrained with a rope around her neck. Cheetahs had got extinct in India for 70 years before the Hon’ble PM and Govt of India decided to reintroduce them with the help of Namibia and South Africa in 2022 in Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh . Project Cheetah was started and a few imported cheetahs were introduced in Kuno. After about 3 years , the cheetah population has grown to 32 . The sight of cheetah cubs in this video reflects progress in habitat adaptation, prey availability, and field-level management by forest and wildlife authorities. It is not only a conservation achievement but also a symbol of India’s commitment to restoring lost ecological heritage. If managed successfully, it may pave the way for establishing a genetically viable and free-ranging cheetah population in India 🇮🇳. It’s such a great sight seeing this 🤗

Removed from the wild when she was just a few weeks old, Taylor was forced to grow up without her mother. Since was rescued from the illegal wildlife trade in April, her rehabilitation at the Cheetah Rescue and Conservation Centre (CRCC) in Somaliland has included plenty of time exploring her outdoor area, including running and playing with #TravisKelceTheCheetah and the rest of her Squad. In the process of playing and exploring, these young #cheetahs are discovering the world around them, and learning to respect boundaries. Normally, a mother cheetah would teach these behaviors in the wild – but as orphans, it is up to these cubs to teach each other (with occasional assistance from CRCC staff, of course). Most of the cubs removed from the wild as part of the illegal wildlife trade do not survive. The majority of cubs die during the trafficking process as a result of inhumane conditions – and, even the cheetahs that do survive the initial journey have a lifespan of less than two years in captivity. We have some positively purr-fect news—the National Zoo's conservation facility in Front Royal, Virginia, welcomed four cheetah cubs in mid-Oct. Get to know them by tuning in to the Cheetah Cub Cam! 🐆 Keepers say the litter is doing well and first-time mom Amabala is doing a great job caring for her babies. The births mark the 20th litter of cheetahs born at the conservation facility since 2010, a huge milestone for this vulnerable species. And to make it even more special, Amabala herself was one of the first cubs to be shown on the Cheetah Cub Cam in 2020! Watch Amabala and her four cubs as they spend their days growing, playing and, of course, cuddling:

Then came muzungu pieces of shit with their so-called “CONservation.” They grabbed vast tracts of African land, declared it “wildlife reserves,” kicked out the local communities, and turned our own animals into a tourist attraction for wealthy foreigners. Now Africans are expected to pay gate fees, buy expensive permits, and play the role of grateful natives just to see animals that have always lived on their ancestral land. This wasn’t about protecting wildlife. It was about stealing land, creating exclusive playgrounds for white tourists, and turning African heritage into a revenue stream for Western conservation NGOs and luxury safari companies. “CONservation” in Africa has always been a sophisticated land grab dressed up in green language. They criminalise local communities for hunting or grazing while allowing rich foreigners to pay thousands of dollars to shoot or photograph the same animals. The hypocrisy is nauseating. Africans don’t need white saviours to teach them how to live with wildlife. We did it for millennia before they arrived with their guns, their fences, and their fake environmentalism. The real threat to African wildlife has never been the African people. It has always been the same people who came, stole the land, renamed it, and now charge us to visit what was once ours. T-Swift, the #cheetah, may not be living out her ‘Wildest Dreams,’ but she is certainly adapting to life at the Cheetah Rescue and Conservation Centre (CRCC) – and creating 'Taylor’s Version.’ The last week has been busy for little T-Swift, and has involved the cheetah cub beginning touch training, which is essential to ensure that receiving vaccines and medical workups become stress-free experiences. #TaylorSwift (the cheetah) also began exploring the new sights and smells of her outdoor enclosure. Grooming – as T-Swift is seen doing here with her brother (still to be named) is an important bonding experience for cheetahs, and observing this behavior indicates that the #cats are relaxed and settling into their new environment. As the dry season takes hold in Tsavo, the elephant visitors come to Ithumba in a steady stream. Up to 150 congregate by our water troughs sometimes. Head Keeper Benjamin and the team are ready. Behind these full troughs is Water for Wildlife — our complex, fully committed conservation programme. Northern Tsavo is marked by high salinity levels, rendering much of its water undrinkable. To solve the water challenge, we established a desalination plant in Ithumba. Now, we can take saline water directly from the Ithumba boreholes, process it through the plant, and make it potable. Multiple times a day, our bowsers deliver water and top up troughs, dispersing the wealth throughout the landscape. This innovation has also transformed operations for our teams and the KWS units who are also based in Ithumba. Since we began providing drinkable water, wildlife have come back to the area in droves. These reliable watering points encourage elephants to remain deep within the safety of the park instead of venturing onto community land in search of food and water, which helps reduce human-wildlife conflict. 🐻 It’s Bear Awareness Week, and we’re celebrating three very special residents here at Zoo Knoxville...Finn, Monty, and Ursula! Our three American black bears came to us as rescues after circumstances left them unable to survive on their own in the wild. Today, they help inspire guests to learn more about bear conservation and the importance of protecting wildlife habitats. 🖤 American black bears are intelligent, curious, and powerful animals found throughout much of North America, including right here in Tennessee. They play an important role in healthy forest ecosystems by spreading seeds, controlling insect populations, and helping nature thrive. 🌲 During Bear Awareness Week, we encourage everyone to help protect wild bears by: • Securing trash and food outdoors • Never feeding wildlife • Giving bears plenty of space in the wild • Learning how we can safely coexist with native wildlife Next time you visit, stop by to see Finn, Monty, and Ursula and learn more about these incredible ambassadors for their species. 🐾

Our Elephants are checking out the Mobile Wildlife Forensic cum Disease Diagnostic Laboratory at a Tamil Nadu Forest Department elephant camp. An initiative of the Advanced Institute for Wildlife Conservation in collaboration with Tamil Nadu Forest Department, this first-of-its-kind facility is providing advanced veterinary care directly into the field. Equipped with a haematology analyser, serum biochemistry analyser, microscope, centrifuge, refrigerators and a -20°C deep freezer, it enables rapid on-site diagnosis, disease surveillance, forensic investigations and instant diagnostic reports. By bringing sophisticated diagnostics to the doorstep of elephants and other wildlife, it enables faster treatment, reduces the stress of transportation and improves the chances of survival. With the start of Basant season, unending joy and excitement fill the air of Kuno as we welcome the arrival of two new cheetah cubs in Kuno National Park! 🐾 Female cheetah Veera, age about 5 years, brought from Tswalu Kalahari Reserve, South Africa, has given birth to 2 cubs today and we celebrate the hope and future they bring. Congratulations to all who cherish this beautiful moment and especially to the team of officers, vets and field staff who are working tirelessly day and night for Project Cheetah. Under the leadership of PM Shri Narendra Modi ji, India will continue to preserve and protect its wildlife for a sustainable tomorrow. The total number of cheetahs, including cubs, is now 26.
