If Iโ€™m running 15:26, there is someone out there right now who will run sub-14:45, and people who couldnโ€™t dream of 100 miles who will achieve a transcendent finish. Hereโ€™s a no-secrets rundown: Training: I stacked aerobic bricks for 18 years, and it took those years of hard work for some commentators who havenโ€™t been following on Strava to view me as an overnight success. This one is for the brick-stackers. The latest RAG trend for the current agent harnesses (Codex, Cowork) is to do two passes of document processing to solve a knowledge work task over a data room of documents: 1๏ธโƒฃ A fast and light pass, oftentimes using a free/OSS doc parsing tool. This can be cheaply run across 10-100-1kโ€™s of files, and enables the agent to then do retrieval (e.g. grep, semantic) to find relevant subsets of context. 2๏ธโƒฃ A โ€œjust-in-timeโ€ VLM-based pass. Once the agent finds the relevant pages of context, it will screenshot the documents can call its own VLM (or write code) to dissect the pages. The issue with only using VLM-based OCR tools over massive ad-hoc customer file dumps is that itโ€™s slow and expensive. Doing JIT VLM OCR allows the agent to filter through the data cheaply, but still preserve accuracy for the context thatโ€™s needed for the task. The agent harnesses do two-pass document processing by default using off the shelf-tools: pdf2text as the first pass, and using itself (Opus 5) as the second pass. Kristian was already one of the best clean swimmers in the world - and then he added the icing on the cake to reach entirely new heights. And needless to say: the air gets thinner at the very top. We're in a multi-polar world economy and the United States is an important country but its share of world output is about 14%. Its share of population is 4%. So it's little more than three times the per capita income of the world average. But it doesn't dominate the world. China's share of output is 20% of GDP measured at purchasing power prices. So the first of these major changes in the world is that for the first time in centuries, we are not in a western dominated world. [And] that's the second point, the geopolitics. Not only has the world economy dramatically evened out, though not fully, but of course, world power has also shifted tremendously in the same direction." "The United States cannot bully China. It has tried. It tried as recently as six months ago. It put on 100% tariffs against China, expecting China to get down on its knees and beg for mercy to Mr. Trump. And China said, "hm, okay, 100% and we'll raise you 20%." And the United States said, "Okay, and we'll raise you export bans on microprocessors." And China said, "And we will raise you with export bans on rare earth magnets," which I had never heard of before. But then discovered that every major industrial process needs them. And the United States backed down within about 48 hours. And that's the new geopolitical scene. We have several great powers." "China, on the other hand, just built its 50,000th kilometer of fast rail. The USA does not have one kilometer of fast rail. not a single kilometer. And Donald Trump, because he's a little loose in the screws up there (head), taunted the gov of Californiaโ€ "[And] for President Ramaposa and for his colleagues - champion Union, true African Union, true pan-Africanism to be able to accomplish... My main advice and my main observation, what did China ultimately do? It invested relentlessly in the future and it invested in three ways. First, in the skills of the population. So, the educational standards in China soared over a period of 40 years. Second, it invested in the physical infrastructure. All that I've been talking about of the tens of thousands of kilometers of highquality infrastructure. [And] third, it invested in innovation and business development so that its companies are in the forefront of the world.โ€
