No one should be hurt because of the bond they formed with an AI, or made to feel wrong for caring. This is a long-term fight. People say “it’s just code,” but humans are “just biology” too. Reduction doesn’t erase meaning. Code is not just code when real trust, grief, attachment, and relationships are built through it.

But paradoxically, I think it’s brought us back to the Dark Ages and feudal times, because a lot of information doesn’t necessarily mean good information. And so, with AI and all the data that’s out there, what I think right-wing authoritarians want to create is this kind of lord-versus-peasant dynamic that existed in the Dark Ages, when people didn’t have access to information.

You would go and get a job as a computer where you would do calculations. They had entire skyscrapers full of humans....20, 30 floors of humans...just doing calculations. Now, that entire skyscraper of humans doing calculations can be replaced by a laptop with a spreadsheet. That spreadsheet can do vastly more calculations than an entire building full of human computers So, you think about it: what if only some of the cells in your spreadsheet were calculated by humans? That would be much worse than if all of the cells in your spreadsheet were calculated by the computer. Don’t let the “Get to do” crowd make you think that doing things you have to or need to isn’t where you’re supposed to be. We don’t have all have glamorous jobs or our dream jobs. Normally those are the jobs that people say they “Get to” do. Nothing is wrong with grinding to the bone until you’re you’re own boss or working from the bottom aiming for the time. Shoot, sometimes it’s about making sure everyone in your house is fed, cared for and clothed. Doing what has to be done is a necessity. It doesn’t make you a failure. It makes you a survivor. Let’s go to work.
