What they donโ€™t mention is the other 23 houses simply did not respond but those non-responses are effectively being used to suppress the true level of support. My figures = I went door to door on Magdala Street myself. 24 surveys, 12 said yes, 5 could not properly answer due to language barriers, and 7 did not answer the door. That means every response I got from the residents who could clearly engage with the question expressed support. This is now the second Belfast City Council survey Iโ€™ve personally checked and found to be misleading. The problem is not lack of support for the Irish language, itโ€™s a survey process that treats lack of engagement as lack of demand. I will keep doing this until it is acknowledged. Gordon Lyons MLA

Our foreign minister was just there a couple of days ago, meeting with the man who is widely expected to be the likely winner of the next election and therefore the likely Prime Minister. We are conducting various aspects of engagement with the people of Bangladesh. On the recent atrocities against minorities, which I myself have spoken out about, we are already urging the government to assert law and order over these lawless elements in the streets. At such a delicate moment, this seems to me to have been an extremely unfortunate and unwise decision... It's also troubling that we have seen the kind of social media outrage driving policy. Some things I think should be beyond this kind of thing..."
