King of the Rocket Men (1949). Ace scientist and fisticuffs enthusiast Jeff King uses his atomic powered rocket suit to fight the mysterious Dr. Vulcan and his plans for world domination. The rocket suit was reused in many subsequent Republic serials. It's an iconic look: aerodynamic bullet helmet and tailored leather jacket with clip belt. The atomic jetpack has three controls (on/off, up/down, slow/fast) making it easy to use. King also has a ray gun that looks suspiciously like a Luger with a metal cone over the barrel. Republic knew what the audience wanted, so every episode involved a fist fight and a jetpack flight. King of the Rocket Men was very much the Surf Dracula of his day!

This happened at Pleasure Point in Santa Cruz, California. Some of the surfers there were having a hard time getting back in with the high swells so this man took off his shirt and went into the water to help. He was able to assist this woman in getting back to shore. So many people said if you can’t get back don’t get in. True enough. 💯 But many others said random acts of kindness like this is what more of this world needs. ❤️ I agree with them. Bravo to that man. 👏 Would you ever jump in troubled waters to help a stranger out. Have you ever had to reduce someone from the ocean water?

My theory: Tartaria was far larger than we could ever imagine. It stretched past the parameters of our known Earthly realm. It still exists. If we were inside a video game, Antarctica is the part of the world we haven't unlocked yet. It is intentionally temperature-controlled to keep people out with the treaty in place to lock it. This is why most of the old world was burned, melted and flooded to make this place habitable for us. We, the human slave science experiments, were then divided by race across nations which eventually became what it is today. TLDR; I think there are portals in Antarctica that take you directly into Tartaria because I think Tartaria-like civilizations still exist beyond the true ice wall. (Locked zone)

Here is a book you must read: Demian by Hermann Hesse. It’s only 150 pages, yet of the most profound books I’ve ever read. I first read it at 22. I liked it but didn’t fully understand it. I read it again at 50 and it hit like a freight train. Written just after World War I, it’s about the terrifying necessity of becoming who you actually are. The protagonist Emil Sinclair grows up in a safe, bright, comfortable family, but there’s a darker world outside that keeps pulling at him. Hesse explores what he calls the Abraxas: the positive and the negative forces inside every human being. Not just the version of yourself that was handed to you by your upbringing and your rules, but the whole truth of what lives underneath. Robert Greene who wrote The 48 Laws of Power and who I deeply admire, said Demian was a major influence on him. Because Demian scrapes off the veneer and looks honestly at greed, envy, mendacity, the primordial parts of human nature that polite society pretends don’t exist. You can read it in an afternoon, but it will stay with you for decades.

I could talk about it all day and still not finish! Because playing soccer was really exhausting. And on top of that, just imagine what Quanzhou is like in July, it was so hot that all of us ended up suffering from the heat. Jiejie always takes care of us. One time she bought us shaved ice, iced desserts, basically. After we finished a soccer match and went back to our dressing room to rest, there were huge cups of shaved ice piled up like a mountain waiting for us. Like literal mountains of shaved ice. She told us to go eat it. And after that, all of us were completely won over by that shop, she totally got us hooked on it. We became loyal customers because of her. LJ: At the time, the weather was just unbearably hot. Sometimes the air conditioning wasn’t really enough either. So Fage would invite us to his car to cool off together.
