Small Language Models (SML) are the future of AI. "Small" (SML) instead of "Large" (LLM). These small models are highly specialized models with superhuman abilities on specific tasks. Here are two techniques to build these models: • Spectrum • Model Merging I give you a short introduction in the attached video, but here is a quick summary: Spectrum helps us identify the most relevant layers to solve one specific task. We can ignore everything else and focus on fine-tuning these layers. Using Spectrum, we can fine-tune models in a heartbeat. Model Merging combines multiple models into a unique, much better model than any of the individual input models. You can also combine models specialized in different tasks and get a model with multiple abilities. This is the state of the art of productizing models. It's what Arcee.ai's platform does behind the scenes. Arcee collaborated with me on this post and is sponsoring it. There are three main steps to produce a model for your particular use case: 1. You create a dataset by uploading your data. 2. You train a model. At this step, Arcee uses Spectrum and Model Merging to produce a highly specialized model for your task. 3. You get a better deal today, at least at a particular latency, using OpenAI's models than Kimi. We distill our own models. That’s how we make smaller, cheaper models. That’s a very good thing to do. There will clearly be an important place for open source models in the world and people that will want their own weights. We have so much usage of our models that we do not need to be a gigantically high-margin business to be able to afford model training. I would rather people not distill from us, for sure. But this is not in my top ten list of worries.”

Earlier this week at GTC, we announced our partnership with Nvidia. We will work with Nvidia to build strong, American open-source models that are at the frontier of scientific reasoning. These models will be essential for the US to compete with China on science in the coming decades. Jensen is committing to spend tens of billions of dollars developing open-source models, and we are excited to be a partner with them in figuring out how to benchmark, train and use those agents to accelerate scientific research. We have already open-sourced some of the work we have done with them, and are looking forward to open-sourcing more. There are few things today that are more important. It’s the question every investor and founder is thinking about: “Most of what we're building is platform. There's so many examples of where a platform can accrue a lot of value, but the customers who are building on that platform actually accrue even more value. We will build our own applications on that same platform where a couple of things are true. Number one, if we feel like we have a vision into where the models are going and we can demonstrate that and create customer value in that, that might be something like Claude Code. The second is thinking about ways to demonstrate value for the ecosystem that others might emulate. If you think about Claude for financial services or Claude for life sciences, these are ways in which we've composed the platform. We're building on the same platform as our customers. That creates a level playing field. We also think that there's so much value that's going to accrue in these areas that our customers can win and we can win as well. So I think of our strategy as mostly horizontal. A lot of the value is going to accrue to the customers that are building on top of it. Our goal is build the best models and then build the products and tools and services that allow that intelligence to proliferate within customers."

CES was an enormous success. We saw thousands of people and a few dogs interacting with our agents and robots. We booked this booth at the last minute, mainly to book next year’s booth. Truly extraordinary what our team was able to put together on such short notice. Next year we reserved one of the largest booths at CES in the highest traffic location for AI and Robotics. We plan to unveil something extraordinary. Until the next show, we will be debuting the first custom models that will emerge from the first humanoid robotics hot rod shop. These models will be walking around, talking and interacting at tradeshows all over the world over the next few months. We are in the process of acquiring every humanoid robot available on the market to modify these as well. Stay tuned for more updates, the future is here and it’s rapidly accelerating.

Destra Zone device is designed to safeguard your personal data and ensure a secure internet experience no matter where you are, by establishing a protected Wi-Fi hotspot that connects to existing networks, Destra Zone acts as a mediator, managing all your DNS requests and shielding your online activities from potential attackers. Unlike traditional solutions, Destra Zone offers more than just a VPN. It features an AI-driven firewall to detect and block malicious DNS requests and leverages the Destra Network's decentralized DNS network for enhanced security. With the power of the Destra network, this device provides a comprehensive defense against cyber threats, keeping your internet traffic confidential and secure. Additionally, Destra Zone allows you to monitor the servers and domains with which your devices are communicating, giving you control over your digital interactions. Over the past few weeks, we have been prototyping designs for the Destra Zone and are in the final iterations of hardware design. We chose multiple microcontroller units and started testing to finalize the best option that balances power efficiency, processing capability, and cost-effectiveness. These tests ensure that the device can handle high volumes of DNS requests and complex AI-driven threat detection algorithms seamlessly. As much as on functionality, we are also focusing on the durability and reliability of the device, making sure it outlasts all your electronic devices. We've started the patent filing process and are currently in patent search stage with the USPTO and are expecting to ship the first batch of Destra Zone beta devices to the beta testers from the community in three months.
