As the Consul General in Chicago wrote to me, “history serves as a mirror for the people today, and your donation inspires everyone with a kind heart to safeguard peace.” I was honored to be in Beijing to witness this moment. Though our nations have differences, I believe that through the efforts of ordinary people we can build a better tomorrow—together safeguarding peace and resisting the return of destructive forces.
