Being here on these steps feels spiritual to me. I’ve stared at the Salad Days cover since I learned of Minor Threat when I was 14. I think back to that first mixtape Jared Hein gave me in class sophomore year of highschool. Hearing Minor Threat on that tape for the first time opened a new door I didn’t even know existed. It pulled me into a world that felt raw, honest, and completely alive. The Salad Days cover. Those steps. It resonates with all of us who came up in this scene. It is more than an image. It is a feeling, a moment, a shared memory. This is my second time here. The first was over 20 years ago, and I can’t find that photo anywhere. So I had to take this one for myself. Just to reconnect. To bring myself back to the music and to that version of me that first felt it. Walking up to the Dischord Records house really does feel spiritual and like a time portal to when I was a teenager and all I cared about was going to shows and listening to records with my friends. Sitting on these steps, you can feel the history in a way that is hard to explain. One day I will meet Ian MacKaye. That would be a dream.

I was honored to attend the 15th International Students Graduation Ceremony organized by YTB, an institution that has given hope and opportunities to thousands of Somali students, including myself, through its scholarship programs over the years. Receiving the Türkiye Alumni Award, which is presented to a limited number of graduates each year, was a truly special moment for me. I am grateful that my efforts to strengthen the relationship between Somalia and Türkiye have been recognized in such a meaningful way. When I first arrived in Türkiye in 2009, I could not have imagined the journey ahead. What I knew then, and what I still believe today, is that building a stronger Somalia and a stronger Somali–Turkish partnership requires dedication, patience, and continuous effort. This award is a reminder of that journey and of the many people who have contributed to it along the way. My sincere thanks to the Vice President of the Republic of Türkiye, Mr. Cevdet Yılmaz, the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mr. Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, and YTB President Abdulhadi Turus for their presence and for making this memorable event possible. Back in March 2023, I flew to New York for my first Real Estate X event at SoHo House, not knowing how much that trip would change everything. It was the beginning of so many relationships, opportunities, and conversations that shaped my career. At the time, I was just focused on showing up, and meeting people to see what I could learn. Fast forward to now, being invited to attend the Real Estate X Gala, speak on stage, and even do a red carpet interview with the X team feels surreal. GM 🌸 My name is Violetta and today, April 5th, is my 30th bday. My whole life I’ve had a clear idea of who and where I wanted to be when I hit 30. Today I can safely say, that I am exactly there and I am exactly that. Free, happy, making music all the time, enjoying every second of my life even the most challenging times because I know they’re making me stronger, not afraid pursue my dream, supported and loved, optimistic about our world, happy to be an outcast in some worlds but having found the community I always dreamed of and be surrounded by them. Realizing I did a lot of stuff and worked my butt off to be where I wanted to be by 30, sacrificed a lot but made sure and managed to keep the most important things close to me. Loved ones, community, art, my dreams. When I turned 20 I was anxious that I was getting old and already late for so many things, lol. If I could go back to that girl I’d tell her that anxiety was exactly what would get here to where she wanted to be a decade later. In the past decade I lived in 4 different countries, acted in 3 movies, made 5 records, travelled to 25 countries, lost everything, found it all again and more, wrote songs I love so much, met so many people I adore. For all this and more I am grateful and excited to do more. Most of all, grateful for this community 🧡

#JanJingjing #JANHAE 🦊: [BBFF] was the first stage that we got to perform on stage together. it was our first concert. the two of us share the same dream - we want to be on stage and perform for everyone. those were two very meaningful days for me. having thought that i might no longer have the chance to get on stage anymore, i got to get back on stage this time. so it became a stage where i wanted to give it my all. i got to perform with jingjing too, who is someone who has lots of passion for this since she was little. even though she shifted toward modeling, she was still looking for opportunities where she could be on [stage].
