And they're right, but you need to take a major break at least once a quarter and spend a week entirely dedicated to something you're obsessed with. One of the countless reasons I love AI filmmaking is that previously, if you had an idea for a short film, you'd have to save up for a year or more just to bring it to life. We now get to do that with any world, instantly. It's crazy how many inbound calls we've had (at my ad agency) because of Zelda. It didn't make business sense. It wasn't easy. But it was the most fulfilling week I've had in a year. You must try this. Take a creative vacation (even better, book a cabin with strong Wi-Fi) and lose yourself in your favorite world for a week. De Clement, who built a $500 million business, called his material the most important thing he consumed every morning. Ziglar built all of it on one thing he learned by almost destroying himself. He wrote a book. Sent it to three major publishers. All three rejected it. He had already put in print that he weighed 165 pounds with a 34-inch waist. He actually weighed 202 pounds with a 41-inch waist. He published it himself. 25,000 copies. It sold over 25 million. He said the reason most people never reach their potential has nothing to do with talent or opportunity. It has to do with the lid on the jar. You put fleas in a jar. You put a lid on it. They jump and hit the lid. Over and over. After enough time you take the lid off. They never jump out. Not because they can't. Because they decided exactly how high they're allowed to go. And that decision became permanent. He said 90% of people walking into work every morning are doing the same thing. They bumped their head at some point and have been jumping at exactly that height ever since. Same output. Same results. Same income. Every year. He said Roger Bannister ran the first 4-minute mile not because he was physically different from every athlete who tried before him. The barrier was never physical. It was a lid on a jar. Six weeks after Bannister ran it Landy of Australia ran it too. Then eight men ran it in the same race. Over 500 people have done it since. The IBM rep in the midwest closed $3.8 million because he had removed one lid that everyone around him still had on. He didn't see himself as a salesperson. Do customers like salespeople? Because a consultant walks in with one question. What is your problem and how can I help you solve it. Within 30 seconds the customer knows which one they're dealing with. There is no way to fake this. The way you see yourself determines how you walk, talk, ask questions and listen. The customer feels it before you open your mouth. He asked thousands of customers across his career to name their favorite salespeople in one word. The number one answer across every industry was the same. Nice. Not smart. Not aggressive. Not persuasive. Nice. When he asked what they meant they said positive, easy to talk to, trustworthy. I feel good when they walk in. He said everything you do with a customer adds to or takes away from that feeling. Nothing is neutral. Everything counts. The IBM rep retired at 49. After we received the offer, the schedules ended up overlapping, and we didn’t think we could handle both projects at the same time, especially considering how challenging this new project is. In the end, we decided to choose the one we wanted the most. 🎤 What makes the new project so interesting? 🫍 After ADAAP, which was a light, fun, and easy-to-watch series, we wanted to try something heavier. This series is more intense, with more conflicts within the story. We wanted to experience a change, just like those who usually do intense stories might sometimes want to do a lighter series. Whether a series is light or heavy, they require different kinds of skills, and a light series isn’t necessarily easier to act in than a heavy one. Sometimes, someone with serious personality may not feel have fun doing a light series either. There are cases like that too. Some songs make you remember a person. “A Different Corner” makes you wonder what would have happened if you had never met them. Watching George Michael perform the song on Parkinson, I kept coming back to how little there is between him and the music.
