My Take : The last 24 hours have exposed an uncomfortable truth: ideology may divide our political class, but misogyny unites it. Yesterday, Rahul Gandhi held a press conference attacking the Modi governmentโ€™s diplomatic approach. Standing beside him was Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit. Gandhi hugged him to make a point about diplomacy. Dikshit then joked: โ€œDid you hug me thinking I was Meloni?โ€ โ€” referring to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Gandhi replied: โ€œI have not reached there yet.โ€ It was a cheap joke. And it was deeply sexist. - but casual sexism is part of our politics - Giorgia Meloni is a democratically elected world leader, not a prop for political banter. If the Congress wants to speak credibly about gender justice, Sandeep Dikshit should have apologised ... plainly and publicly. No excuses. No deflection. No double standards. The BJP was absolutely entitled to demand that apology. But then the BJP did what Indian politics does far too often: it answered misogyny with more misogyny. BJP leader Nishikant Dubey posted a photograph of Indira Gandhi embracing Fidel Castro and asked whether Rahul Gandhi would call that โ€œlust โ€ Think about that choice. There are countless photographs of former PM and congress leader Rajiv Gandhi embracing foreign dignitaries. But Mr Dubey chose Indira Gandhi. And then attached a sexual insinuation to the image. So an insult to Giorgia Meloni was answered with an insult to Indira Gandhi. Different parties. Same instinct. Put a woman at the centre of the punchline. And that is the point. This is not about defending the Congress. Sandeep Dikshit was wrong. He should apologise. It is also not about defending the BJP. Nishikant Dubeyโ€™s response was equally revealing. Because misogyny does not become acceptable when it is used as political retaliation. Women should not become ammunition every time politicians run out of arguments. Not Giorgia Meloni. Not Indira Gandhi. Not any woman. So yes, ideology divides our political class. But when it comes to using women as the easiest targets in a political fight, they seem remarkably united.

Becoming Rahul Gandhi is not easy. At a very young age, he lost his grandmother, and later, his father was assassinated. Experiences of such magnitude often leave people with anger, resentment, and hatred. Yet, instead of allowing tragedy to shape him in that way, Rahul Gandhi chose a different path. Raised by Sonia Gandhi with values of compassion and empathy, he learned the power of love over hate. He endured immense personal loss, years of public scrutiny, and constant political attacks, yet he continued to advocate unity rather than division. Perhaps that is why, even today, he rarely responds to hatred with hatred. Instead, he has consistently spoken about bringing people together. His commitment to this idea was reflected in the Bharat Jodo Yatra, a nationwide journey aimed at strengthening social harmony and national unity. During the yatra, he popularized the slogan "Mohabbat Ki Dukaan" emphasizing that empathy and understanding are stronger forces than hatred and polarization. When I had the opportunity to meet Rahul, he shared the same lesson with all of us: hatred cannot defeat hatred- it can only be overcome through love and compassion. This philosophy can be summed up in his guiding principle: "Be someone who listens to sorrows, feels them, and gives strength." Hatred is limited, but love is endless. Rahul Gandhi continues to inspire many young people by standing firm in his beliefs despite immense pressure and criticism. His journey serves as a reminder that no matter how powerful hatred may appear, love, empathy, and humanity ultimately prevail. Love you Rahul Gandhi ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿซ‚โค๏ธ

The battle for women vote has found a new leash of life after Rahul Gandhi spoke of fighting Shakti in Hindu dharma. Despite Congressโ€™s several attempts to explain what Rahul Gandhi meant, the BJP charge, led by none other than Prime Minister Modi has been unrelenting. The BJP alleged that Rahul Gandhi is not just anti-Hindu but also a misogynist. Not wanting to keep Rahulโ€™s comments limited to the divine form of Shakti alone, the Prime Minister linked it to Nari Shakti and Bharat Mata. Today, stepping up the attack, the BJP ensured that the PM was welcomed by 11 Shakti Ammas in the Salem rally. On the face of it, it may appear mere symbolism but the political messaging canโ€™t be overlooked. The PM has quickly positioned himself as one who revers and has worked for the empowerment of Nari Shakti as opposed to the Congress, led by Rahul Gandhi, who wants to fight Shakti. Has the Congress played into the hands of BJP, once again? After all, the PM has assiduously nurtured the women vote block. Several of his social welfare programs, from Aawas to Ujjwala to Sauchalay, are all about women empowerment. The PM has specifically focused on pushing more women to be entrepreneurs. His Lakhpati Didi is an ambitious program. Besides, the Govt never tires recounting that 50% of all beneficiaries, across programs, are women. Legislating on womenโ€™s reservation bill or praising women scientists for the success of Chandrayaan3, have all been part of PM Modiโ€™s political pitch. Given the context, it would be interesting to see how the fight for womenโ€™s vote shapes up in the days ahead. For now, the BJP and the PM have grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
