"You just hate Hichilema": The dramatic fall of Zambia's president By Sishuwa Sishuwa Hakainde Hichilema stood in the queue to becoming President of Zambia for 15 years before voters finally removed him from it in August 2021. This demonstrates how badly the man wanted this job. But it has taken him only five years in office to display his unfitness for the role. When it comes to the bigger national issues, such as safeguarding our cherished democracy, getting the best out of Zambiaโ€™s mineral wealth, respecting the constitution and the rule of law, fighting corruption beyond rhetoric, genuine promotion of national unity and equitable distribution of appointments to public service positions, sorting out the cost-of-living crisis and the deplorable conditions of life for most Zambians, Hichilema has lamentably failed. In fact, I would go as far as saying that the President has become a clear and present danger to Zambiaโ€™s economy, to our democracy, our constitutional order, our nationhood and its 'One Zambia Nation' foundation, and to the lives of ordinary Zambians. Voting Hichilema out of office will be the highest expression of patriotism. As I have previously stated, I am convinced that Hichilema will lose the election on 13 August. The only thing that can save him from defeat is pre-ballot death (of any candidate) or industrial scale vote-rigging. I really hope that we Zambians will never again elect a lying, tribal, corrupt, unpatriotic, vindictive, hypocritical, lawless, and undemocratic scumbag. In addition to his policy failures on major issues of public concern, one reason why Hichilema is losing the election (unless he rigs it on an industrial scale) is because of having extremist supporters, mostly Zambezi supremacists, who dismiss legitimate criticism of his leadership actions as hate speech and consequently enable his continued failure to be receptive to criticism, to reflect on the feedback provided by the governed, and to change for the better. When citizens (be it the Catholic Bishops, opposition parties, civic actors, or ordinary Zambians like me) raise governance concerns, they do so in the spirit of accountable democratic governance. They do not do so because they hate the president as a person, hate his ethnic identity, or hate where he was born. I insist that a better Zambia is possible but we wonโ€™t get it if we treat criticism of presidential leadership failure as expression of hate. Unfortunately, even Hichilema himself has embraced this warped thinking that any criticism of his leadership actions is hate speech. This attitude has deprived him of the much needed feedback on his leadership performance and capacity to listen to divergent views, consequently impoverishing his presidency. We must embrace the unfamiliar, eschew haste in passing judgement, and be more tolerant and understanding. These qualities are especially essential to those in public leadership roles. I once raised concern that we seem to have prepared different standards for this president compared to those who came before him. If a leader can only provide five hours of electricity to the people in a day, they have failed. If a leader can only increase the cost of living, they have failed. If a leaderโ€ฆI can go on. In addition to denying the president the benefit of legitimate public feedback on his performance, misconstruing criticism as hate makes it look like the responsibility of holding our public leaders to account falls on those who either love him or hail from the region where the president does not come from. If his supporters and Tongas, Lozis and Zambians from Northwestern Province join in calling out the wrongs of Hichilema, he will no longer play the tribal card of reducing all criticism of his leadership to ethnic hatred. In the uncritical minds of some of the president's supporters, I criticise Hichilema because I hate him! Most of the individuals who hold this view are people who repeatedly criticise me on this platform, even when their criticism is quite often devoid of reason or substance. I do not think those who criticise me do so because they hate me. I think they criticise me, even if I hold no elected public office, simply because they have a different take, different opinions, on things. Why is it so hard to apply the same logic to my criticism of an elected public leader like Hichilema who is accountable to us, the public? I have been providing regular political commentaries on Zambian affairs since 2009. Why was my much stronger criticism of Hichilema's predecessors, namely Rupiah Banda, Michael Sata, and Edgar Lungu, not considered hatred of these individual leaders? In fact, many of the individuals who today accuse me of harbouring hatred for Hichilema were people who were very happy with my much stinging criticism of the leadership failures of his predecessors. When I called Sata a tribalist and undemocratic leader who did not listen to advise, and provided evidence in support of my conclusions, they were happy to cheer me on, even as Sata's supporters said I was bitter and a Hichilema supporter. When I called Lungu a tribalist and corrupt leader, and provided evidence in support of my conclusions, they were happy to cheer me on, even as Lungu's supporters said I was bitter and petitioned the police to arrest me for sedition. Some of Hichilema's supporters, as part of the enjoyment of their exercise of the right to free expression, even insult me, call me names, or outrightly declare that they dislike me. Of course I would prefer content-based discussion, but if the best that anyone's mind can do is to insult me, I will consider their actions as part of the right to free expression. I recognise that people have the right to dislike me, to call me names, to wish me whatever they desire, to feel however they want about me. I have no problem with all this. I do not speak to be liked or secure the validation of anyone. I speak to express myself and I respect the right of other people to do the same. As I have repeatedly stated, free speech is not just for the people or thoughts we like or agree with; it is also for people we despise and opinions that we do not support. The important point is not the position I take on a given issue of public interest. It is the reasoning advanced in support of said position. If I say Hichilema is a lying, tribal, corrupt, unpatriotic, vindictive, hypocritical, lawless, and undemocratic scumbag, what is important is not simply this description; it is the reasons and evidence I have adduced in support of this conclusion. Anyone is welcome to challenge my conclusions or evidence, to say "I disagree with your argument for this and that reason." What I totally reject is the idea that criticism of a president's leadership actions amounts to hate; it does not. If I point out that Hichilema is failing to ensure adequate ethnic diversity in public appointments and provide evidence in support of this assertion, anybody else is welcome to demonstrate weakness in my stated point of view. If I point out that Hichilema is a compulsive liar and provide evidence in support of this assertion, anybody else is welcome to demonstrate weakness in my stated point of view. If I point out that Hichilemaโ€™s fight against corruption is a sham and provide evidence in support of this assertion, anybody else is welcome to demonstrate weakness in my stated point of view. If I point out that Hichilema is a compulsive liar and provide evidence in support of this assertion, anybody else is welcome to demonstrate weakness in my stated point of view. If I point out that Hichilema has eroded Zambiaโ€™s democracy and provide evidence in support of this assertion, anybody else is welcome to demonstrate weakness in my stated point of view. If I point out that Hichilema has failed to reduce the cost of living, as per his campaign promise, and provide evidence in support of this assertion, anybody else is welcome to demonstrate weakness in my stated point of view. If I point out that Hichilema (working in cohort with his friend Situmbeko Musokotwane) has facilitated the extraction of the countryโ€™s mineral wealth by multinational corporations without ensuring sufficient returns in revenue collection for Zambia and provide evidence in support of this assertion, anybody else is welcome to demonstrate weakness in my stated point of view. If I point out that Hichilema has failed toโ€ฆand provide evidence in support of this assertion, anybody else is welcome to demonstrate weakness in my stated point of view. Simply dismissing my criticism as an expression of my alleged hatred for Hichilema is most unhelpful. Those who do so are depriving me the opportunity to learn what I do not know and Hichilema the opportunity to adjust his leadership style and change for the better. While I do not hesitate to share my opinions on matters of public concern, I also retain the intellectual integrity of one who is willing to abandon their point of view if its weakness can be shown. I have repeatedly stated that I harbour no hatred against Hichilema. What I hate is his bad leadership, whose meaning I have explained in the article below. There is no constitutional democracy in the world that requires citizens to love their elected leaders. Loving individuals is the responsibility of their spouses and family members. Once these individuals step up to hold elective public office, we owe them one thing: accountability or feedback on their performance. No elected public leader or their supporter should burden me or another person with any demand for affirmation or affection. In a functioning democracy, the duty of citizens is to hold their elected leaders to account so that they deliver basic services and do not undermine accountable democratic governance. This is what I have been doing across different administrations, including this one. As early as December 2021, when I analysed Hichilma's first 100 days in office, I raised governance concerns of his leadership in the hope that he could address them so that they do not grow into bigger problems. He did not listen. In 2022, when he was celebrating one year in office, I raised governance concerns of his leadership in the hope that he could address them so that they do not grow into bigger problems. He did not listen. In 2023, I raised governance concerns of his leadership in the hope that he could address them so that they do not grow into bigger problems. He did not listen. In 2024, I raised governance concerns of his leadership in the hope that he could address them so that they do not grow into bigger problems. He did not listen. In fact, as did his predecessor in 2021 in response to my criticism of the abuse of state institutions to fix critics and opponents, the president asked his supporters to report me to the police for alleged hate speech against him! In 2025, I raised governance concerns of his leadership in the hope that he could address them so that they do not grow into bigger problems. He did not listen. This year and for the many reasons that I shared in the interview on the link below, Hichilema is losing the election because he did not listen to criticism that we, as citizens, raised about his performance. He is also losing the election because of his extremist supporters who, in addition to a wilful but harmful failure to hold him to account, dismiss legitimate criticism of his leadership from other people as hate speech. What a pity! What a wasted opportunity! I have just read a story on a ruling party platform casually dismissing Global Witness's report that "Ahead of Zambia's general election...First Quantum Minerals and its associates have been running a decades-long covert influence campaign distorting the copper-rich nation's democracy" and that the Canadian firm has "become his [Hichilema's] largest funder in the upcoming 2026 election after pledging up to $50 million in support." The report adds that "FQM has reaped enormous benefits: major changes to Zambia's tax regime have save the company $771 million between 2022 and 2025, and it has been shielded from legal scrutiny." Rather than interrogating these grave concerns, the publisher, the Zambian Watchdog which is run from State House, is treating the issue so casually when Global Witness, a very credible international outlet, raises serious corruption and governance allegations. In January 2019, I raised questions about Hichilema's relationship with foreign mining firms, but was told by his supporters that I just hate him. Today, we are ere. The net result is that Hichilema, who in opposition politics had positioned himself as the reformist leader Zambia needed to reclaim its democracy, eliminate corruption, unite the country, and set it on the path to economic recovery, has, in power, turned out to be nearly everything he detested about his predecessor and, in some cases, much worse. Under his watch, corruption has thrived on a massive scale, the economy is a shambles, ethnic divisions have worsened, Zambiaโ€™s previously principled foreign policy has been shredded into something unrecognisable, and democracy is essentially non-existent. The man who was expected to lead reform has instead transitioned into an aspiring despot. Unless he rigs the election, or eliminates his main rival, Zambians should prepare for a new administration after 13 August. Many voters have reached a point of no return and it is too late for Hichilema to change their mind. A combination of failure to listen and the "you just hate Hichilema" brigade has destroyed his once promising presidency. I see many people expressing surprise at the huge turnout at Brian Mundubile's rallies. What they miss is that the turnout reflects the revulsion against Hichilema rather than genuine support for Brian. Even if Brian was not there, voters would have rallied behind another candidate through which to express their opposition to Hichilema as a result of his major policy failures. As early as 2023, wen I noticed Hichilema's direction of travel, I warned that the greatest opposition that he and the UPND face is a politically alert and informed citizenry, not an opposition party: โ€œThe biggest opposition that Hichilema faces is the people, particularly if he fails to lower the cost of living and tackle the huge unemployment outside the health and education sectors. They can stop opposition rallies like Edgar Lungu and the PF tried to do but if Zambians would have decided in a year or two that Hichilema must go at the next election, there is nothing that he can do to stop them....Even if Hichilema tries to, he cannot stop the peopleโ€™s will. Even if he succeeds in killing the PF and in his manoeuvres to block his main political opponents from running in 2026, another platform and another candidate to serve as the outlet of opposition will be found. The voters will support any visionary patriot they see as better placed to be used as the vehicle for removing Hichilema just like they chose him as the vehicle for removing Lungu. Please tell himโ€. Hichilema did not listen. Again. This continued failure to listen prompted my conclusion two years later that "Many Zambians may not know yet who they will vote for in the 2026 presidential election, but they already know who they wonโ€™t vote for." The truth is that I tried to warn Hichilema in good time and at different points that he was heading in the wrong direction. The President, dripping with arrogance, did not listen. Think of it this way. A bus (representing a political party in power) is transporting passengers (active citizens) from Intercity terminus (2021, being the departure point of where we did not want to be anymore) to Nakonde (2026, being the arrival point of destination before subsequently deciding whether to book the same bus for the return trip). After leaving Intercity, some passengers notice that the bus is heading towards Livingstone (a wrong destination that takes us back to before 2021). A few of us (active citizens) decide to stand up (holding the leader to account) and confront both the driver (the president) and his conductor (Minister of Finance), demanding an explanation for why we are heading to Livingstone when we were promised that we woud be taken to Nakonde. Other passengers, mainly those who came from the ethnic group of the driver and conductor, defended the duo even before it could respond to our concerns. They repeatedly told us that "You just hate the driver. Please sit down!" One or two relatives of the conductor joined in support, saying the "The driver and the conductor are excellent and one of them has even won awards for stellar performance on his duties, including his remarkable capacity to understand direction of travel"! That is how some passengers kept quiet. I kept on talking, especially after we reached Choma in the hope that if we turned atthat point, we woudl not wast more time. I talked because I could not get off the bus at undesigned stations, so the only solution was to appeal to the driver to change course. I explained that it would be an act of extreme irresponsibility on my part as an active passenger to wait until the bus has reached Livingstone before holding the driver to account about the direction of travel. That is why I tried to warn the driver that we were headed in the wrong direction. Unfortunately, other passengers said we should just sit back comfortably, enjoy the ride which included some morsels of food delivered by the bus, and trust the driver because other drivers before him were much worse. In the end, we arrived in Livingstone, our undesired destination. Just when we were arriving, we saw another bus, loading passing from there directly to Nakonde. The driver, upon realising the cost of his failure to listen and the disappointment in the eyes of the passengers, urged everyone to sit down, promising that he would take us to Nakonde if we give him more time. With the exception of those who came from the driver's ethnic group and the auxiliary ones, most passengers, who had shown great faith in his driving skills by paying (voting) the fare for the bus as their mode of transport from Intercity to Nakonde, have left the bus for the other. These include those who had adopted silence during the journey after realising that the driver, aided by the choir mentioned, was not a listening kind. As I write this post, the alternative bus is almost full. The same passengers who accused those of us who, along the way, advised the driver to change course, of harbouring hatred for the driver are now wondering why nearly everyone is leaving the bus we came with for an alternative one that is promising to take us directly to Nakonde. One of the driver's supporters, reiterating the driver's earlier appeal that we should stick to the bus that brought us to Livingstone, just shouted at us a moment ago: "The alternative bus will take you to a wrong destination. Its driver cannot be trusted; just stick to this one because you won't have to pay a new fare". The supporter is overlooking the point that we are already at a wrong destination, the current driver has betrayed our trust, and that we would rather repose our trust in another person. It is not good to remain on a bus, driven by a person who does not listen, out of the fear that an alternative one might be driven by someone who could be worse. Let us try the alternative bus. If its driver takes us to a wrong destination, we will disembark from the bus we are about to jump onto, as we have done before, and find another one until we reach Nakonde. For me and other active passengers, such has been the the current driver's betrayal of our trust that we have reached a point of no return. We cannot trust this driver anymore, especially that when we tried to correct him, no one explained to us why our concerns were unfounded. We were just told that we hate hate the driver or his ethic group or or the province where he comes from. Recently, Dr Lee Habasonda, a lecturer in political science at the University of Zambia, told Reuters (watch the video clip on the link below) that electoral success is a matter of thresholds โ€“ of grievances, feelings, frustrations, etc. Leeโ€™s view is that once a certain threshold or tipping point has been reached, "no matter your manifesto, ideology, lies" or whatever those in power do or say, the voters will "decide to change government" because they would have reached a point of no return. Emotionally, many Zambian voters, including some that I know who voted for Hichilema in 2021, have passed that threshold where no matter what Hichilema or UPND does, these voters will reject him. This is because the threshold, or the point of no return, has been reached. As Lee argued, those in power "may say we have already won this election when they campaign but the political coalitions and realignment" suggest otherwise. When the opposition wins next month, we will need to advise them to get non-sycophants at State House and in the critical posts in the civil service. It is important that they understand that unless there is a clear shift away from the harmful culture we have raised concerns about, we will be compelled to challenge them with the same resolve we previously applied to both the PF and UPND governments. On my part, I promise that I will always be on the side of the people. You will not find me in government even after the election. Once Hichilema is out of office, I will leave him alone and my attention will shift to holding to account the next set of public leaders. As I made clear in 2021, I am content serving as an academic and I will work, as part of my civic duty, to hold the new Government to account as I did with previous Governments. I am not available for or interested in any form of government job. For now, Iet me continue listening to the attached song. Chalo chesu.

Wowโ€ฆ. Donald Trumpโ€™s rally in Tucson, Arizona was a mess. Bro was totally slurry and as utterly incoherent heโ€™s ever been. Letโ€™s recap it: JD Vance is nowhere to be found. Bro hasnโ€™t been invited to a rally in a while. Telling. He starts by hyping up the crowd despite the Linda Ronstadt Music Hall only having a capacity for 2195 people. There were empty seats too. In comparison, VP Harris had 8600 people at her rally today. You could tell his tiny crowd size was bothering him. He claimed he had a โ€œmonumental victoryโ€ against VP Harris in the debate. Sure, broโ€ฆ He said she โ€œspewed lies.โ€ Pure projection. He whined about Linsey Davis and David Muir. He had issues saying โ€œindustry,โ€ โ€œSnopesโ€ (he called it โ€œSnoopsโ€), โ€œconfiscation,โ€ โ€œnotice,โ€ โ€œand,โ€ โ€œinterest,โ€ โ€œRussia,โ€ โ€œjokingly,โ€ and โ€œwoman." The cognitive decline is fierce. He lied about the abortion after birth thing again, disgusting. Heโ€™s giggling at his own jokes. I think heโ€™s on something. This is super weird. He called VP Kamala Harris โ€œthe leader of the movement Defund the Police.โ€ Uh, no. He says Project 2025 โ€œnever had my authorization.โ€ He implemented over 2/3 of their policies in 2017. He says that crime is so much worse now than when he was in office. False. Crime has gone down since the spike when he was POTUS. He falls back on his Twitter polls as proof that he โ€œwon the debate.โ€ Nah, bro. He seems to think that his debate with Biden counts as debating Harris. Not the case. He claims his weird โ€œTown Hallโ€ with Tulsi Gabbard had the best ratings. It didnโ€™t. He tried to diss David Muirโ€™s hair. Odd since Iโ€™d take Davidโ€™s hair over Donaldโ€™sโ€ฆwhatever that isโ€ฆany day of the week. He claims VP Harris is โ€œa threat to democracy.โ€ So much projection. Heโ€™s slurring calling Harris and Tim Walz โ€œweird.โ€ He clearly doesnโ€™t like being called weird himself, so we should keep doing it. A lot. He called Tim Walz โ€œthe future Vice President.โ€ Well, he got one thing right! He repeats that he wonโ€™t do a โ€œthird debateโ€ because itโ€™s โ€œtoo lateโ€ since early voting has already started. Donald Trump is a chicken. He goes on an angry rant about immigrants and migrants. He whines that VP Harris smiled during the debate. Bro, she was LAUGHING AT YOU. Heโ€™s pushing lies about Springfield, Ohio. FAFO in a swing state, bro. I canโ€™t wait for Haitians to help flip Florida. He claims people in Hollywood vote for him because of โ€œlow taxes.โ€ Further proof Donald only cares about giving tax cuts to the wealthy. He says they lie and say theyโ€™re not voting for him and then secretly vote for him. Not happening, bro. He claimed he got โ€œmore votes than any sitting president in the history of the countryโ€ in 2020. HE LOST THE ELECTION and heโ€™s once again claiming he didnโ€™t lose after admitting he did multiple times in the past month. He said โ€œweโ€™re never gonna let that happen again.โ€ We all need to be prepared for what heโ€™s gonna make his base do when he loses AGAIN. He claims that โ€œin a couple more years theyโ€™ll be firedโ€ about Linsey Davis and David Muir. Is he threatening them if he wins? He called Linsey Davis โ€œnasty.โ€ What a dick. He now goes back to people in Hollywood voting for him. Delusional man canโ€™t even keep his own train of thought. He claims someone named Martha cried when he won the debate. Uh. Heโ€™s bragging about crowd size again. Heโ€™s also saying he did 7 rallies in 2 days. He did not. Heโ€™s now asking how many rallies Biden would doโ€ฆhe keeps forgetting who heโ€™s running against. He tries to get the crowd excited and it sounded like less than 50 people were clapping. Sad. Heโ€™s now talking about Venezuelans taking over places with AK47s. He was the one who stayed the deportation of Venezuelans right before he left office. Heโ€™s now calling Kari Lake โ€œBorder Kari Lake.โ€ Super lame nickname and of course he praises himself for it. Heโ€™s crying about Biden again. Yikes. Broโ€™s mind is mashed potatoes. Heโ€™s back talking about Venezuelans with guns and heโ€™s trying to do math. No joke. He claims Harris is flying in migrants on jets. He whines about the Forbes 400 and claims Forbes โ€œisnโ€™t doing so well.โ€ Heโ€™s still butthurt that they dropped him from their list. Heโ€™s back to demonizing โ€œ20,000โ€ Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio. FAFO bro. He said โ€œtheyโ€™re taking the geeseโ€ฆand walking off with their pets. My has been stolen.โ€ He keeps talking about someone named โ€œArt.โ€ Iโ€™m smirking. He says heโ€™ll โ€œstop World War 3.โ€ Bro is gonna try to start it. Heโ€™s crying about Biden not talking to Putin. He claims that immigrants and migrants canโ€™t pay rent. He immediately talks about the โ€œexplosion in rentโ€ in Springfield, Ohio. Pick one or the other, doofus. Heโ€™s talking about sleeping with a chart โ€œevery night.โ€ I mean, thatโ€™s more than Melania is sleeping with him. She wonโ€™t even be in the same state as him, let alone the same bedroom. Heโ€™s going to โ€œban mortgages for all illegal aliens.โ€ I thought he said they canโ€™t pay rent but now they can afford to buy a home? Again, pick a lane dingleberry. Youโ€™re embarrassing. He claimed the average income raised $7000 under him. False. 3 million people lost their jobs. Donald says heโ€™s going to save the average person in Arizona โ€œ$800 and $1000 a monthโ€ on their mortgages. Is he planning on giving away free homes? Bro is straight up lying. He arbitrarily says heโ€™s going to cut their power bills by 50% in the first year. How do people believe this absolute bullsh*.t? He said people โ€œcanโ€™t afford to buy cerealโ€ and that people bring three apples to the checkout and then put one back because they canโ€™t afford it. Fruity Pebbles near me are $3.49 and an apple costs $.59. He wants to repeal โ€œevery unnecessary ruleโ€ for construction of homes. Letโ€™s make houses implode again! He claims โ€œgovernment regulationโ€ is to blame for โ€œ40% of the cost of single family homes.โ€ Bro is legit just making up numbers as he goes along. This is painful to watch. He says heโ€™s going to cut the cost of new homes by 30-50%. Is he gonna give away land for free? FFS. Bro is mental. Ah. He just said heโ€™s going to open up federal land for โ€œlarge scale housing development.โ€ Great. Letโ€™s turn Yellowstone into a strip mall while weโ€™re at it. Heโ€™s complaining that the media covers his inability to say words and calling him โ€œcognitively impaired.โ€ The media genuinely needs to call this out. He calls Melania โ€œour great First Lady.โ€ Sheโ€™s not the First Lady, and sheโ€™s not great either. He said Melania complains about his hair at his rallies. Good. He looks like a bum with an animal living in that weird hair nest. Heโ€™s complaining about low income housing. Heโ€™ll take away any safety net that people who are struggling have. He said he โ€œdoesnโ€™t have problems with womenโ€ and that suburban women love him. E. Jean Carroll would like a word. So would Stormy Daniels. He said women โ€œdonโ€™t want to be hurt, molested, killed.โ€ I donโ€™t want to have to carry my rapistโ€™s baby, bro. And thatโ€™s now happening to women in 13 states thanks to you. He asked โ€œwhy wouldnโ€™t they like meโ€ about women. UHHHHHHHH. How much time do you have, Donald? He said women want choice and that heโ€™s for choice. But heโ€™s talking about school choice, not bodily autonomy. I hate this man. Heโ€™s whining about โ€œcopycatโ€ VP Harris saying โ€œno taxes on tips.โ€ Hahahaha. She still lives rent free in his head about this. Heโ€™s now trying to bribe people by saying that heโ€™ll end taxes on overtime. We all know heโ€™ll never implement this. Heโ€™s bragging about Bidenโ€™s student loan debt elimination being stopped. Vile. He claims he took in more money from the IRS after he cut taxes for the wealthy, โ€œby a lot.โ€ Not true. Our national debt was skyrocketing under him even prior to the pandemic. The crowd cheers the loudest for his hateful speech about transgender people. He lies and says schools are transing kids after parents drop them off. He claims VP Harris was โ€œthe leader of that.โ€ Fake news. He lies about the boxers in the Olympics again. I really hope they sue the ever-loving sh-i.t out of him. He does some lewd gestures and talks about โ€œgetting it up.โ€ I want to vomit in my mouth. He makes up a story about a trans swimmer who won the Olympics and some female swimmer getting โ€œwind burnโ€ as a result. WHAT THE ACTUAL EFF?!?! See the video below. I couldnโ€™t stop laughing. Sorry for that! Heโ€™s begging people to get their friends to vote. He knows heโ€™s gonna lose. Oh. Now he's doing the air jerk dance going off the stage. It makes my skin crawl. - Fin Iโ€™m sorry this one took a while. I kept pausing and leaving the tv because he was royally pissing me off. I genuinely cannot wait until I donโ€™t have to do these anymore. This man is one giant ball of hatred and we need this cancerous negativity removed from our society. Is the media gonna cover any of this or nah?

"Come on, folks. Do we see what's playing out here? Marbury v. Mad might have just brought down the Commissioner of the Boston Police Department." - Towel, November 6, 2025 Rule #1 in Massachusetts politics right now; Do not mess with Attorney Corey Hopkins. She's going to get barred here just to reform the government (then I'll become her paralegal and we'll submit public records requests all day). Good plan. TRANSCRIPT (from Towel's coverage of the letter in question, uncovered by Attorney Hopkins); Hello and good evening. It is just past 6 p.m. on Monday, November 3rd, 2025. My name is Grant Smith-Ellis, and I'm back with you again for another developing news update, this time related to Boston Police Commissioner Cox responding to a developing series of scandals, in particular related to former Boston Police Officerโ€”well, first former Canton Police Officer, then former Boston Police Officerโ€”Kelly Dever. Now, Kelly Dever was an integral witness during the John O'Keefe and Karen Read trial about one specific series of events in the early morning of January 29, 2022โ€”not really related to John's death per se, but related to the then-chief of the Canton Police Department, Ken Berkowitz, who was also potentially the person that went to the FBI about Brian Tully's MSP unit, Massachusetts State Police unit, detailed to the Norfolk DA, who were the same people that investigated Karen Read for John's death. Berkowitz was the same person who apparently went to the FBI in 2022 about Tully's unit through John Fanning covering up Sandra Birchmore's death at the hands of former Stoughton PD officer Matthew Farwell. Okay, Ken Berkowitz and Brian Higginsโ€”then undercover ATF agent who himself had been in a relationship of some kind, we'll call it that, with Karen in the months before John's death. That's a whole story we will not get into. The point is, Higgins and Berkowitz go into the sally port. Now, Kelly Dever had been working since, I think it was 12 a.m. on January 28th. She workedโ€”let me make sure I get this right nowโ€”she worked at 12 p.m., noon on January 28th to 8 p.m. Then she worked the 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. shift. Okay, she was doing 16 hours over those two days. At like 1:30 a.m., she saw Berkowitz and Higginsโ€”or around there, maybe a little laterโ€”go into the area, an area of the Canton PD. Thenโ€”and we're going to find outโ€”she had a meeting with Boston Police Commissioner Cox. Now, why did Commissioner Cox get himself in trouble? Well, not because of the interview we're going to watch, but instead because of an interview about a year ago where he said he knew nothing about the Kelly Dever situation or the Karen Read case. All right, now we're going to quickly come to find out that what we're about to hear from the commissioner is not the best answer in light of this little document found by the incredible Marbury v. Madison on X, Corey A. Hopkins, a business litigator based in North Carolina. Towel really likes Marbury v. Madison because, first of all, Marbury v. Madison is an awesome case, and it entrenched the supremacy of the judiciary as to saying what the law is by virtue of the Constitution. Solved a very complex problem related to the Judiciary Act of 1789 and, in particular, the emergence of political parties in 1796 and, in particular, 1800, and a slew of last-minute appointments by President Adams and a refusal by President Jefferson to commissionโ€”or one of the refusal by Jefferson's Secretary of State Madison to commission a justice of the peace. But it really was about the supremacy of the judiciary branch. Marbury v. Madison uses a lot of FOIAs, and what you're going to see right here is a FOIA request that resulted in this wonderful little document. And what does this show? All right, this document shows, folks, a letter from Stephen J. Kelleher, who's with the White Collar Public Corruption and Civil Rights Division of the FBI in Boston. It is a letter that Marbury v. Madison obtained via a FOIA, and it shows the DOJ reaching out to Commissioner Cox and saying, "Sir, hope all is well. Just a reminderโ€”this was on February 22nd, 2024. The documents were released to the DA's office late last night." This has to do with federal documents about the investigation of John's death by the MSP unit run by Brian Tully working for the Norfolk DA. "The officer we spoke about is Kelly Dever. If you have any questions at all, feel free to call me. Vr. Steve." Okay, folks, this proves that Commissioner Cox was told about Kelly Dever and documents related to her testimony and what she saw Higgins and Berkowitz doingโ€”which I don't think was related to John's death, but it's just embarrassing for Higgins. He was an undercover ATF agent, and embarrassing for Berkowitz. And although Berkowitz is now dead, he was either dying or not dead in 2024. And clearly, this was embarrassing, okay, to the Canton Police Chief, to the Boston Police, to Higgins, to all these people. All right. And so we see here, Cox knows about it. Cox then goes on a few months laterโ€”I think it was either after, I think it was right after Karen's second trial, but it was some months after this initial email was sent to Cox. And Cox, in his infinite wisdom, tells Boston 25 or Channel 5 or whatever it was at a news conference that he's basically never heard of Kelly Dever or the Karen Read and John O'Keefe case. Okay, that was a stupid thing to say because then this FOIA comes out in recent weeks. That leads to Alan Jackson to send a Brady letter to Mayor Michelle Wu, the Democratic mayor of Boston running unopposed in the coming election, saying that Cox should be on the Brady list. I think it wasโ€”yes, because Cox was not forthcoming about what he was told by the feds about Dever. Okay, now this is Cox's response. I just want to show you how bad of a response this is. Okay, this is a clip via Boston 25, just Cox's comment on these new developments, whichโ€”although Alan Jackson's Brady letter is what Cox was asked for comment onโ€”even Alan Jackson himself has rightfully so given credit to Marbury v. Madison for their excellent find on this FOIA document that was unearthed. And this could cost Cox his position. All right, the Democrats in Boston already have the eye of President Trump. The DOJ is all over this unit, in my opinion, and the cover-up of Birchmore's death. Look at the DOJ's pattern of indictments, okay? Recently, not just the Jessica LeClair leaks, but also Sheriff Tompkins and other major Democrats. Look at what's going on here, folks. Think about the larger pictureโ€”the most recent indictment, the superseding indictment of Matt Farwell for the murder of Sandra Birchmore's unborn child. It's all coming together. And Commissioner Cox's answer is bad. And that's why I want to analyze it. It's not just like inappropriate. It is a bad, bad, bad answer. When I heard it, I had to immediately make a video to analyze it because that's how bad this answer is. It's short, but I'm going to tell you how bad it is after we listen to it. "But what I need, you know, it's not to be asked this question ever again because it's notโ€”it has to pertain to anything to do with the police department. My condolences to the O'Keefe family for, you know, what they've gone through. And because we did lose a department member. But outside of that, this has nothing to do with us. And I'm not going to speak with this again." Okay, let me just make something clear. I'm not saying he was wrong. It's not wrong to invoke John's name. But doing it that wayโ€”that's grotesque. Okay, he didn't answer the question. He basically refused to do so. And again, if you didn't hear the statementโ€”although I'm sure you didโ€”he said, "What I need is to not be asked this question ever again pertaining to anything to do with the police department." What? "My condolences to the O'Keefe family for what they've gone through because we did lose a department member." John O'Keefe was an honorable member of the Boston PD and the SA offenders unit. "But outside of that, this has nothing to do with us, the Boston PD, and I'm not going to speak on this again." No, no, no, noโ€”that you just cost yourself your job right there. I'm sorry. That was a terrible, terrible answer. I'm sorry for the volume. I'm just running it back. Terrible answer. The worst possible answer. You may well have just cost yourself your job because you ducked the question. Everyone knows that the question is about this document. Anyone following this knows. The implications are what Dever knew about Berkowitz and Higgins, and maybe that's not the most serious thing. But as President Nixon said, it is not the crime, it's the cover-up. Dever, whatever she didโ€”not wanting to talk about certain things about Higgins and Berkowitz, unrelated to John's death, just because it's kind of embarrassingโ€”that is not a problem really. It's a minor thing. You know what's a big deal? Dever definitely got Brady-listed or whatever because her testimony was a little weird. I think Alan Jackson also pressured her a little bit. But whatever, that's not the point here. Cox's responseโ€”that was bad. That was bad PR. That's like the kind of thing when Prince Andrew was forced to go out and do an interview with BBC One about Epstein, and it just cost him all his titles because he got no PR help; he got sandbagged. That kind of thingโ€”somebody didn't prep him, or the people he was talking to didn't even think this would come up. That's a horrible answer. Twenty seconds can cost you your career if you have done something bad and you answer a tough question like that. It's defensive; it shows you have something to hide; it undermines people's faith in your ability to answer those kind of questions. That's the biggest problem for Commissioner Cox here. Instead of inspiring confidence and making it look like it was nothing or it was just a routine, he couldn't even address the fact that he was made aware in February, in particular, about Kelly Dever and he had knowledgeโ€”he had a meeting with her. Let's be clear: He put her on his schedule the very next day. Not only did he have recipient knowledge of what was going on with the federal investigation and the John O'Keefe and Karen Read caseโ€”Dever got called into his office the next day, which of course Cox initially tried to play off as just some routine meeting, as if he meets with all 2,600 or whatever of the Boston police force. No. Come on, folks. Come on, folks. Do we see what's playing out here? Marbury v. Madison might have just brought down the Commissioner of the Boston Police Department. My name is Grant Smith-Ellis. Enjoy the rest of your Monday. We'll see what other news comes in today. Sean Good on suspension. Michael Proctor's cell phone gate engulfing the world in a conflagration. Little towel basically running down the street from the masses, trying to insulate himself from the fallout of this God-forsaken situation. Institutional reform is comingโ€”to the Norfolk DA, hopefully throughout the state policeโ€”so that the good people in law enforcement can keep helping the vulnerable and that the exploited, no matter how much pressure they come under, continue to speak their truth. And let me just say this: Whenever we stand against the flow of opinion on hotly contested issues, a man, a woman, and a Towelโ€”do what they must in spite of the personal consequences, in spite of the dangers and obstacles and pressures. For that is the basis of all human morality. We will be there for each other in times of struggle. We will be side by side in times of joy. And when everything is on the line and when our principles matter the most, there will be no price too high to pay to center the voices of the unheard, to bring justice to the vulnerable, and to reform this God-forsaken justice system in Massachusetts so that we can all hand down a structural system to our future generations that is worthy of our Constitution, that is worthy of our collective intelligence, and that is worthy of the due reverence we all should be providing to the pursuit of justice. My name is Grant Smith-Ellis. Until next time, you're a towel, I am as well. Be well. God bless.

Alright, here's the epic towel rant from tonight; And so that's what kind of tipped me off in real time. I was like: wait a minute. Is Judge Doolin ruling from the bench right now? And then I was like: wait a minute. He's ruling from the bench and ordering them to appoint a new prosecutor and potentially the Attorney General. Oh my word. Howโ€”what is this? Iโ€”this wasn't on my bingo card. Even now I'm just like: Oh my God, I can't believe he did that. Judge Doolinโ€”in a good way. I'm just like: Oh my God, there is hope. And then to follow it up with: "Oh yeah, I'm thinking about a hearing on the contempt." Oh my Godโ€”you're telegraphing. You're going to have a contempt hearing after the Attorney General is potentially on the case. The other witnesses, however, are left in this position where they have this kind of not really well-fundedโ€”like kind of spastic prosecution, like the special prosecutors on the Kearney cases. Then you got the December 23rd, 2023 criminal charges against Aidan that were charged in Dedham District Court, 23rd or 26th or so. And that was for illegallyโ€”allegedlyโ€”recording Lindsey Gaetani and then submitting an edited version of the recording into court for some reason. I don't know why Aidan did that, especially apparently when there's an original version of the recording pursuant to some of the statements in court. And then also for intimidating Lindseyโ€”for allegedly going over there on December 23rd, 2023โ€”against Karen Read's advice and against his lawyers' advice, apparently, according to a leaked group chat message from Facebook in 2024โ€”in May of 2024โ€”going over to Lindsey's apartment. And then according to the affidavit from the search warrant for Karen Read's cell phoneโ€”allegedly telling Lindsey that she shouldn't cooperate with the grand jury. She shouldโ€”she could remove information from her phone or somethingโ€”that Aidan would get her a lawyer, but only if she agreed to meet with a lawyer only with him present, because she had, quote, "broken his trust." It just likeโ€”wild stuff. And that new grand jury, by the way, was apparentlyโ€”it did go forward. And then in time it came out that itโ€”that was about Karen and Aidan and witness intimidation and conspiracy, because Aidan Kearneyโ€”between October and Novemberโ€”really August and November of 2023โ€”it started telling Lindsey Gaetani about his communications with Karen Read that includedโ€”in writingโ€”Exhibit O to Karen Read search warrant affidavit, which says that Karen Read told Aidan Kearney that in November of 2023โ€”November 28, 2023, to be specificโ€”that Karen Read told Aidan Kearney that Karen Read and her team at ex parte conversations with former U.S. Attorney Josh Levyโ€”which was right in the window of time that Jessica Leslie, the grand juror leaker, was leaking information. Leslie started leaking in August of 2022โ€”which is the same month that Alan Jackson joined Karen Read's legal team. And Josh Levyโ€”who was one of the U.S. Attorneys in charge of that grand juryโ€”Leslie was leaking about four different cases: probably the Birchmore case, definitely the Read and O'Keefe case, definitely the CDL case. One more case. We can't reallyโ€”the group of us journalists involved in thisโ€”can't really figure out. So right in the middle of thatโ€”November of 2023โ€”Josh Levy is leaking ex parte grand jury information to Karen Read, which she's puttingโ€”she's telling Aidan Kearney about; he's putting it in writing. He just was trying to just show off for Lindsey, but you don't likeโ€”come onโ€”like what is it? First day in the IC, bro? I'm not in the IC. I'm not part of the government. I'm a towel. But anywayโ€”so Aidan's bragging to Lindsey, and I don't think that was a very good idea. I mean, she's brilliant and stuff, but likeโ€”why would you ever say that to her? Don't say that stuff. But anywayโ€”like, why would you sayโ€”even if it's your significant otherโ€”unless they are read-in on the intel that you are sharingโ€”why would you ever, ever, ever share that with someone? It exposes them to an incredible liabilityโ€”which, if you love them, don't do it. It also exposes your own credibility to an incredible risk of liability. You will never be trusted by the intelligence community again. Pillow talk and honeypots are how they trap operatives. If you chase sex, they will compromise you. How can you not understand that? So if you get compromised by someone who's not an agentโ€”just someone who's your partner and you're just telling them stuff about protected federal investigationsโ€”what do you think your reputation is going to be like among the intelligence community when you're doing that and they haven't even honeypotted you? You just voluntarily started putting this shit in writing. They're going to look at you like you are out of your mind. So anywayโ€”Karen Read apparently is telling Aidan Kearney that she's having ex parte conversations with Josh Levy. Now, the grand jury that Leslie was leaking from was impaneled in May of 2022 when Rachael Rollins used to be U.S. Attorney in Boston. Now think about this. In 2020, Rachael Rollins and Aidan Kearneyโ€”Rachael Rollins, a hyper-liberal known for her soft-on-crime stance. We'll also hear Rollins hated Michael Morrissey. Anyway, Rollins worked with Turtle Boy to send a Republican operative named Rayla Campbell to Joe Kennedy Jr.'s events in the Senate race against Ed Markey so that Ed Markey could win the Senate seat. Now, interestingly enough, Rachael Rollins then got appointed to the position of U.S. Attorney right after that. And you might say: well, Grant, that's a stretch. No, noโ€”because then within a few months, Rachael Rollinsโ€”part of the reason she gets thrown out of office by the DOJ OIGโ€”is because she attends an event in Andover withโ€”guess who?โ€”Dr. Jill Biden, the wife of the then-president who appointed her. Now, what does that mean? Well, if you really think about the geopolitical implications of the 2020 Senate race between Ed Markey in Massachusetts and Joe Kennedy Jr.โ€”well, one of the things you're going to realize is thatโ€”think about 2020. The leadership around Biden did not know that the chaos of 2024 was going to happen with Kamala and Biden not really being up to it. You're thinking ahead to 2024. Why? Who's your biggest target if you are a sitting Democrat and you're worried about a primary challenge four years from now? Well, what if JFK'sโ€”what is itโ€”nephew or whatever it isโ€”is in the House of Representatives? And what if JFK started his career in the House of Representatives? And what if that new young Kennedy with red hair and sort of a photogenic face? What if he is running for JFK's old Senate seat? What if he's on the same exact trajectory as JFK? Oh, we can't have that. Weโ€”as the Biden White Houseโ€”cannot have Joe Kennedy Jr. beating Ed Markey for Senate. And how it got to the point that somebody talked to Rachael Rollins and she came up with the brilliant idea to reach out to Turtle Boy so that Turtle Boy would talk to Rayla Campbell to send her to Joe Kennedy Jr.'s events to help Markeyโ€”I don't know. But that's why I think Rachael Rollins became U.S. Attorneyโ€”someone who, in my opinion, was uniquely unqualified and fundamentally unethically un-predisposed to being able to run that office. Who then in turn immediately tried to interfere in the 2022 Suffolk DA primary between Kevin Hayden and Ricardo O'Rourkeโ€”because Rollins wanted to see her progressive vision continue through O'Rourkeโ€”so she worked with Daniel Medwedโ€”the same professor who was involved with advocating the media on behalf of Karen Read's team. She worked with Daniel Medwed to get a story leaked about how a non-existent federal probe into Kevin Haydenโ€”to increase Ricardo O'Rourke's chances in the Suffolk DA primary. Sound familiar? Oh, hell yeah. So anywayโ€”between November of 2022 and May of 2023โ€”you got this weird situation where Rollins knows she's getting forced out; Levy's going to take over the office. The people who take Rollins out are Josh Levy, Bill Abley, and still head of the criminal divisionโ€”Dustin Chao, I thinkโ€”still head of the public integrity unit, and then executive officer who is also the press secretary or the communications director of the office. Those four peopleโ€”without being named; they're named by titleโ€”were the people who cooperated with the DOJ to take Rollins outโ€”DOJ-OIG to take Rollins out. Now, why is that interesting? Well, oneโ€”because it shows that people in that office knew that Rachael Rollins had a proclivity for weaponizing leaks about non-existent federal probes to interfere in particular district attorney races and matters. Secondโ€”Rachael Rollins and Michael Morrissey had a bifurcated history of ten years. One: Rachael Rollins had this list of 25 crimes she wouldn't prosecute, and other DAs critiqued herโ€”not just Michael Morrissey but others. Rollinsโ€”I'm pretty sureโ€”was the one who first called Morrissey a "meatball," in fact, because of his criticism of Rollins over that issue. Rachael Rollinsโ€”I thinkโ€”has a proclivity, in my opinion, to hold a bit of a grudge. When she became U.S. Attorney and she realized she was on the way outโ€”well, maybe the Sandra Birchmore probe started back in May of 2022 because former chief of the Canton policeโ€”Ken Berkowitzโ€”went to the FBI and told them that the FBI covered upโ€”the MSP unit detailed to the Norfolk DA covered up Sandra Birchmore's murderโ€”potentially because Yuri Bukhenik and John Fanning used to work in Stoughton with Matt Farwell and Robert Devine and Billy Farwellโ€”I think they all worked there. And furthermoreโ€”that Brian Tully, the unit commander, was partners with John Fanning for 20 years. All right, and in that regardโ€”it is very interesting, I thinkโ€”that Chief Berkowitzโ€”who may have been very offended that his unit... So Sandra Birchmore was murdered on February 1st, 2021, at 9:23 p.m. in her apartment in Canton. Okayโ€”on February 4th, Monday in the morningโ€”the Canton police do a wellness check after they get a call from herโ€”Sandra'sโ€”colleagues at the school where she worked as an administrative assistant. Now the Canton police respondโ€”on Monday, February 4thโ€”by Wednesday, February 6th. The Canton police have collected the following evidence in order. And if you don't believe me, you can read pagesโ€”I think 97 through 101โ€”of the Canton Police Department audit report released in April of 2025. Point by point. Number one: the Canton police confirmโ€”via a witness who was the maintenance worker at Sandra's apartment buildingโ€”that Matt Farwell was the man on camera outside Sandra's apartment in the elevator at 9:23 p.m. on February 1stโ€”which is exactly when Sandra died. Two: that the man was Matt Farwell, and he was the same man who helped Sandra move into her apartment. Three: that when the Canton PD went to Sandra's school, they got information that Farwell was telling people that Sandra was pregnant with his childโ€”that he had abused her since she was a childโ€”and that he was going to quote "take care of the problem himself" if Sandra decided to carry the baby to term. All right. All of that informationโ€”by February 6th of 2021โ€”was passed over to the MSP. John Fanning and this whole unitโ€”I thinkโ€”really then facilitate a report sometime over the next six to 12 months that exonerates Farwell and says Sandra dies from self-harm. Well, I think that's why Ken Berkowitz blew the whistle before he died of cancerโ€”and that's why there was a grand jury impaneled in May of 2022โ€”and it was really about the cover-up of Sandra Birchmore's murder. Wellโ€”oneโ€”it was about Sandra Birchmore's murder. Why does that make everything so interesting? Because I think that the investigation wasn't just about who killed Sandra and whyโ€”but how was it ruled aโ€”the result of self-harmโ€”instead of the very obvious murder that it was. Wellโ€”that startsโ€”2022, I thinkโ€”May of 2022โ€”the grand jury. Jessica Leslie was on the grand juryโ€”leakerโ€”who's going to be sentenced on October 4th of 2025. I think Jessica Leslieโ€”ladies and gentlemenโ€”in August of 2022 somehow leaked to Karen Readโ€”Alan Jacksonโ€”that the Norfolk DA was dirty because they covered upโ€”and that MSP unitโ€”because they covered up Sandra Birchmore's murder. All rightโ€”so therefore, Alan Jacksonโ€”that's the skeleton in the closet. It wasn't what the people in the house were doing. I'm still a little suspect of who they knowโ€”but I don't think that's the big deal. I don't think Jen McCabe's social life is the big deal. Nobody caresโ€”nobody fucking cares. Sorry for cussing. The big issue is that Jen was friends with Tully. Tully's unit knew literally where the bodies were buried. And theyโ€”I thinkโ€”they brought on the PIโ€”Marty Kraftโ€”and Kate Peterโ€”to insulate their exposure from the coming publicity that they knew was going to be brought upon them by Alan Jackson. And so they were worried. And who would you bring in if you had covered up a murder? If you were a MSP unitโ€”you'd bring in someone like Kate Peter. Because you can read her in on that. She's hardened. She doesn't give a fuck. She lost two of her kidsโ€”and I don't think she even fucking cared. So who the fuck's the perfect person be like: "Bruh, if that shit gets national attention, we're fucked. So you better control that fucking narrative and handle all these like different people that get too close to thisโ€”or we're going to be exposed for Birchmore." But let me bring it back to the point hereโ€”which is in 2022, the feds clearly were starting to poke around. And come 2023โ€”I think Brian Tully's unit was desperate. Who was going to find out because of the coverage of the Read case? Could they make sure that Kate Peter got close enough to Netflix and Gretchen Voss so that they couldn't find out what was actually going on? And could the Birchmore cover-up be kept upโ€”even in light of the national spotlight? When you think about the fact that some people may not have been loyal to the Justice for John O'Keefe movementโ€”but were instead primarily loyal to Brian Tully's unit. And when you think about the fact that maybe Tully's unit didn't run the best investigation of Karen Readโ€”maybe there were some flaws. But if you think about the fact that they did get herโ€”but if you think about it in the context of: Karen knew from the jump that the MSP were dirty over Birchmoreโ€”then you understand: Karenโ€”that's why it was going to become an incident. Everyone knewโ€”everyone around Tully, his friends, all of themโ€”the unitโ€”they knew they covered up Birchmore's murder. And they knew Karen had it in her hands if she could just figure out the PR. And that's exactly what she didโ€”to put enough pressure on them. They took her to trial anywayโ€”and it destroyed the fucking Norfolk DAโ€”destroyed Brian Tully's unit. It cost them dearlyโ€”and she's a tactical fucking genius. I think Brian Tully thought he was slicker than he was by using the prosecution of Aidan Kearneyโ€”not to get a genuinelyโ€”in my opinionโ€”bad guy who was deserving of the indictment handed up by a grand jury of his peers. But because Tully wanted to know what the real target of the federal probe is. If you don't know what a backhand is, folksโ€”a backhand is where you investigate one thing on the surface because you're dealing with a very high-level operation like the state policeโ€”who are a paramilitary intelligence-gathering operation. So you trick them. You make them think they're under investigation for John's death and the investigation of that death. But reallyโ€”you're investigating them for the cover-up of Sandra Birchmore's murder. And that's exactly what I think happened to this unit. That's what I think Brian Tully was trying to figure outโ€”from August of 2023 until about December. I think they eventually put it togetherโ€”and by August of 2024, Matthew Farwell got indicted. Nowโ€”it's a question of all this as a result of today. I want to be very clear: this is what was called for. There needed to be an independent voice with power and who takes no nonsenseโ€”who came into this and said: Nopeโ€”it's out of your hands. And that's what Judge Doolin did today. Someone just needed to not either be involved with Karen Read, Aidan Kearney, or the Norfolk DAโ€”or Kate Peter or Marty Kraftโ€”and prosecute this. Now, all those other witnessesโ€”I have no idea what the hell is going to happen there. But at least for Lindseyโ€”Judge Doolin was like: enough of this nonsense. And that's why today was such a big deal in light of that historical contextโ€”because just tracing that very insidious pattern of events over the past 18 monthsโ€”you can see this became a proxy war. It was Michael Morrissey on one side with his marching soldiers: Brian Tully, Kate Peter, Marty Kraft. And then it was Karen Read and the DOJ on the other side. Okay. And their soldiers were like the Free Karen Read movement and Turtle Boy and Natalie and all these other people. This was an intelligence community proxy war. And that's why I've been trying to tell people for so long: Lindsey Gaetani was not involved. She was an unwitting pawn. These two factions both took advantage of herโ€”including Brian Tullyโ€”who was more interested in preserving his unit's reputation than actually defending the interest of the vulnerable. In my opinion, I think Brian Tully is a terrible person. Does that mean that he's a bad person for trying to hold Karen Read accountable for John O'Keefe's death? No, of course not. He's a bad person because in what fucking world do youโ€”as a fucking state police officerโ€”who youโ€”you are entrustedโ€”not just to get the bad guysโ€”but to protect the most fucking vulnerable? One: how do you justify what happened with Sandra Birchmore? Two: how the fuck do you get it in your fucking mind that you're going to take a 15-year unredacted extraction of a fucking vulnerable victim's cell phone and release it to a fucking defendant known for promulgating exactly that material? What fucking headspace? What satanic fucking chamber do you and Kate Peter have to be drinking blood from fucking cups in to think that that's fucking okay? Fuck you. How do you even get in the headspace where doing something like that to a fucking victim becomes acceptable. The rot in that unitโ€”whether enabled by Morrissey or whether he didn't know about itโ€”I don't fucking know. But the point is: the rot in that unit was so deep that they lost their fucking souls. They didn't think of victims as victims. They re-victimized victims because it was a political fucking warโ€”and these people are so hardened, I guess, that they don't understand what it means to be vulnerable. And these were police officersโ€”detectivesโ€”people entrusted to uphold and protect the dignity of the most vulnerableโ€”and they fucking used victims to advance some political agendaโ€”to deal with the fact that they covered up a fucking murder. I'm done being gentle about this. Fuck these people. And I'm not saying that it was wrong for them to investigate Karen Read. I am pleased someone tried to prosecute her. I'm pissed at them because they were thinking about it from the perspective of their own liability for an unrelated caseโ€”and they fucked everything upโ€”and introducing Kate Peter to this shit. Oh my God. It's a disgrace. It's a disgrace to the people who were hurt. It's a disgrace to the vulnerable. I frankly do not understand how Jen McCabe, Brian Tully, and Kate Peter go to bed each night. I don't get it. I don't know. Maybe there's something that shuts off the GABA-1 receptor or something and just makes you go to bed. I don't know. Never heard of such a thing. But I'm just saying: I don't know how you do it. How do you do it? But anywayโ€”Judge Doolinโ€”without giving a... extemporaneous, uh, bloviating cuss-based rant like I just didโ€”instead, in my opinion, is like: fuck all of you! You're not being involved in this prosecution anymore. Someone's gonna protect this fucking womanโ€”Lindsey Gaetani. I'm making you appoint someone! I love that man. Good for Judge Doolin. But stillโ€”we never should have gone to this point. This is incredible. With the... the... the MSP. The fact that they had a unit operating like this for so long. This is worse than what John Connolly and Whitey Bulger did. This is institutional rot that is so pervasive that it requires fundamental reform of the MSP. They're not incapable ofโ€”um, uhโ€”solving crimes. I'm sure most of the MSP are wonderful. Anywayโ€”my point is: I don't think the state police officers that I generally run intoโ€”or troopersโ€”are bad people. I think most of them are wonderful. They've never been really mean to me. They do good work. They're out there protecting our roads. They stop people from speeding. Theyโ€”what else do they do? They go after commercial truck violations. They investigate homicidesโ€”like, on the whole. And this is why I think we have to be careful about how we talk about this. I am not saying that the entire MSP is just rotten. I'm saying that when you have factions or sections within the institution that understand its machinations and are able to thus manipulate the bureaucratic structure and avoid accountabilityโ€”you lose the confidence of everyone. And how do you think some of those good troopers feel when they have to go out there? Yesโ€”people like me are going to smile at them and bless them and whateverโ€”because I know they're not part of the problem. But most people look at them and they think that they're fucking hated. They don't deserve that. They literally put their lives on the line for us every day. And if we're going to give them the respect they deserveโ€”if we're going to make the profession have the respect that it deservesโ€”then this kind of institutional rot can't be looked at as just an embarrassment. And it can't be looked at as something thatโ€”oh, we just wish didn't happen. Maybe some guys are going to go away. Noโ€”you point at it. You scream it from the rooftops and you say: if this happens even onceโ€”then we have so failed as an institution; we must fundamentally reform from the ground up. And this wasn't just once. It was Birchmore. It was the phone extraction. It was the SA report leak over and over and over and over again. They knew the law. They were an old boys' club. They abused it. They had coverโ€”and it was systemically enabled. And that's why I thinkโ€”to save the profession of policing in Massachusettsโ€”there needs to be a full-on unbridled discussion about how this happenedโ€”how the personalities involved were able to do what they did. And we can't be so tribalistic that because someone we support as to their views on one case, right? We cannot be so tribalistic that we just block out everything bad that they do. Or this rot will continue. And it is pernicious. It is insidious. It is invidious. It undermines the faith that citizens completely removed from this situation have in our system of government. It undermines victims' confidence in the ability to seek redress in the face of serious fucking harmโ€”because they think the system doesn't actually care about them. It's just using them to get someone bigger. We cannot allow this to perpetuate. And the only way to fix it is to hold up situations like what happened to Birchmoreโ€”Sandra Birchmoreโ€”and what happened to Lindsey Gaetaniโ€”hold them up in the national spotlightโ€”and say: weโ€”the MSPโ€”have failed you. Brian Tully failed these people. John Fanning failed these people. Nick Guarino failed these people. Yuri Bukhenik failed these people. We need to say that. We need to highlight it. We need to say: this happened even once. Therefore, we are not good enough. Not only are we not good enoughโ€”the very fact that either of these things were able to happenโ€”the Birchmore cover-up, the phone extraction leakโ€”is such a pervasive, systemic degradation of the faith that victims and the public have in the justice systemโ€”that our only option is to talk about thisโ€”congressional hearings. We need the State House to have congressional hearings. We need these people to answer for what they did. And we need to make sure it never happens again. And the only way you do that is by finding out what aspects of the bureaucratic structure allowed this to happen. And it's not going to be comfortable. I don't think it's going to be comfortable for anyone to talk about the fallout of any of thisโ€”but that's exactly what happened at the CCC on a smaller scale. And if this country mattersโ€”if this form of government mattersโ€”if this republic mattersโ€”then we will fix this. We will fix it together. We will address the hard questions. We will address the uncomfortable questions. We will shed our prejudices and polemical biases at the door. We will engage in no fear, no favoritismโ€”and we will look only for the truth and nothing but it. And if you are incapable of doing thatโ€”you're contributingโ€”either consciously or subconsciouslyโ€”to the problem. It's our only option. And you can't just say: because they prosecuted Karen Read, we can't talk about anything bad that they did. That's tribalism. That's polemical. That's what drove us to this point.

Ten Takeaways From 10/21/25 ONE) NBA on NBC Hello, friends. Welcome to the 2025-26 NBA season. Itโ€™s been a minute, hasnโ€™t it? A whole lot has changed since we last spoke. We were reintroduced to the NBA on NBC. Canโ€™t believe itโ€™s been almost 25 years, but here we are again. They absolutely crushed it after having some early audio difficulties. I get how clichรฉ it is, but I seriously got chills once โ€œRoundball Rockโ€ started playing. Thought Carmelo Anthony, Vince Carter, and Tracy McGrady had contagious energy in the pre-game coverage. The graphics are clean and straightforward. Really like the team fouls tracking in the score bugโ€”just a very pleasant experience. Looking forward to the โ€œPrimeโ€ experience. God, canโ€™t believe it costs $650 to watch basketball now. We need to talk about the MJ segment, though. If youโ€™ve been living under a rock, NBC shocked the world and somehow convinced Michael Jordan to sign on as a โ€œspecial contributorโ€. โ€œInsights to Excellenceโ€ is sadly everything I thought it would beโ€ฆ nothing. He wasnโ€™t in the studio or anything. Looked like some pre-recorded interview with Mike Tirico from who knows when at his house, talking about why heโ€™s come out of hiding. The thing lasted about three and a half minutes. โ€œTo pay it forward. I had the obligation to basketball.โ€ - MJ on the decision to join NBC Okay Mike. Hoping for some actual insight in future recordings. TWO) Champs Are Here OKC received their rings and raised their banner before the game. Vibes were immaculate. Dillon Jones was even in attendance. Good thing the Wizards waived him just in time for him to make his flight. Rockets werenโ€™t having it, though. Ime Udoka said that they didnโ€™t watch the ceremony and were instead focused on trying to ruin their night. Kevin Durant came out for warmups to loud boos, and so he booed them back. Everyone laughed. Meanwhile, Steven Adams still gets loud cheers because, well, who doesnโ€™t love Steven Adams? It was a rough go-around for all Thunder not named Chet Holmgren (28 points, 11-17 FG) to start, especially SGA. He had just five points at the half on 40.0% shooting (2-5 FG), but you can only contain the league and Finals MVP for so long. He scored 24 of his 35 points in the 4th quarter and overtimes. Whatโ€™s up with the four missed free throws (10-14 FT)? "I'm glad the guys enjoyed the ceremony. That's a great, great life event they had." - Mark Daigneault "It was surreal. I don't know how to describe it besides that. Seeing the banner raised was cool too... I'll remember it for the rest of my life." - SGA on the pregame ceremony THREE) Thunder Starters One of the more critical questions going into Opening Night was, โ€œWhoโ€™s the 5th Thunder starter?โ€ as we wait for JDubโ€™s wrist to get right. SGA, Dort, Chet, and IHart felt obvious. Between Alex Caruso, Aaron Wiggins, and Cason Wallace, I leaned Cason mainly because of the bigger picture. Didnโ€™t make sense to start Alex after managing him all last year, but then he started in every preseason game he played. Had to give that some sort of credit (and we did). Well, they ended up doing what they did a lot last year: change it up midway. Wallace started, and then Caruso started the second halfโ€ฆ for Hartenstein. Here we go again. Casonโ€™s playmaking looks improved. Daigneault went 11 deep (!!!) in the first quarter. Rookie, Brooks Barnhizer was the fourth sub off the bench, played about two minutes, and was never seen again. Part of that reason is Ajay Mitchell, who checked in after him (for Shai). Thereโ€™s been some buzz, going back to his standout Summer League (19.8 ppg, 5.3 apg, 4.8 rpg, 1.5 spg). He scored 12 of his 16 points in the second quarter. โ€œNot surprised. He was playing like this before he got hurt last year.โ€ - Mark Daigneault on Ajay Mitchell FOUR) Jumbo Lineup Itโ€™s not much of a surprise to see Udoka start with the Steven Adams/Alperen Sengun pairing after how dominant they looked at the end of last season (+29.9 net rating, 162 minutes)โ€”especially given the matchup, with Holmgren and Hartenstein on the other side. The real shocker is how much they leaned into it. Alpi and Adams shared the court for over 30 minutes (+8). LIKE WTF?!!! This was Adams' first time touching 37 minutes since November 9, 2022. They did just sign him to a three-year extension. Youโ€™d think they might wanna be careful with their investment. The average height of this Rockets' starting lineup is 6'10 (Thompson, Durant, Smith, Sengun, Adams), LMAO FIVE) Alpi Dominance Continues Maybe what Sengun was doing at EuroBasket 2025 (21.6 ppg, 10.1 rpg, 6.6 apg, 1.0 spg, and 1.1 bpg) translates over? Not gonna lie, I certainly had my doubts, but noโ€ฆ heโ€™s looking just as dominant (I know, one game). Alperen Sengun vs Thunder: 39 PTS 11 REB 7 AST 2 STL 5-8 3P (career-high) 10-11 FT 27.7% USG Yeah, I see it too. Second time in his career, heโ€™s attempted eight threes. Dude averaged 1.2 attempts per game last year. The hitch in his shot appears to be gone, so hey, this could be real (doubt it). All I know is that if it is, itโ€™ll do wonders for his ceiling on sites that reward threes (DK). Also, going 10 of 11 from the line is something worth paying attention to. He was a 69.2% free-throw shooter last season. On the flip side, Amen Thompson (18 pts, 4 reb, 5 ast) had seven attempts from behind the arc and missed them all. Sucks, but his shot still looks flat. Thereโ€™s no lift. While weโ€™re here on Thompson, he had to leave the game late because of cramps. SIX) The Reed Conundrum Iโ€™ll give Reed Sheppard (9 pts, 4 ast, 37.9% TS, 28 min) this; heโ€™s a confident motherfucker, and I love that about him (in a cute way). Itโ€™s hilarious how many times he looked off KD in this game. Heโ€™s gonna have stretches where heโ€™s feeling it and looks automatic, but is it really gonna be worth it if his defense looks this dreadful? He canโ€™t stay in front of anyone. The Thunder hunted and won that matchup with ease all night. Amen getting cramped up in OT1 really salvaged his minutes, cause I didnโ€™t think he was gonna see the court again. Again, I know itโ€™s only one game, but a couple more performances like this and things could get ugly. SEVEN) KD Gets Away With One Or should that say gets away with none? Kevin Durant (23 points, 9 rebounds) made his Rockets debut, and thereโ€™re gonna be two things you take away from it. Whyโ€™d you trade for him again? He was pretty much non-existent when they needed him most down the stretch, with a 12.5 USG% in both OTโ€™s. There shouldnโ€™t have been a second overtime. KD was clearly seen calling for a timeout after a rebound with about a second left on the clock. The problem is, they didnโ€™t have anyโ€“He Webberโ€™d it. He should have been Tโ€™d up, giving the Thunder a free throw to potentially end the game. Zarba and his buddies even got together to talk it over once the buzzer sounded, but did nothing. Strange, but luckily, it didnโ€™t end up mattering much since OKC won in the second overtime. โ€œKevin definitely called timeout 3 timesโ€ฆ They just missed it.โ€ - SGA The Thunder beat the Rockets 125-124. EIGHT) Kuminga Starts Gallagher and I both felt pretty confident (sounds so stupid saying that with Kerr) that had Mosey Moody been available for this one, he would have been named the fifth starter, but his calfโ€™s still bothering him. Steve Kerr decided to start Jonathan Kuminga (17 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, 33 minutes) instead, rewarding him for a strong preseason. There might be some more rewards coming because, whew, this is exactly what theyโ€™ve been wanting to see from him for the last couple of years, especially the boards. You wouldnโ€™t know it from looking at Lukaโ€™s box score, but JK did about as well as you could defending him; he made his threes (4-6 3PT) and consistently found the open man. Iโ€™m gonna go ahead and guess that he starts again against Denver on Thursday Let the showcasing begin. โ€œWhen you ask for opportunity, you must deliver. Heโ€™s been very vocal about his opportunity and he delivered.โ€ - Draymond Green on Jonathan Kuminga โ€œI just wanna help JK be greatโ€ฆ Weโ€™ve been kickin' it. Hanging out. Watching film and just working on our game together. I know how great he wants to be and how great he can be.โ€ - Jimmy Butler on mentoring Jonathan Kuminga NINE) Jimmy Being Jimmy One of the funnier moments of the night came post-game, when Jimmy Butler talked about a bet he made with Draymond Green. The wager is that heโ€™ll have a better free-throw percentage than Steph Curry this season. Deadass, hahaha. He admitted that itโ€™s probably a bad bet but I still love that he does this type of shit. Two years ago, he said he was playfully aiming to shoot 50.0% from three. He obviously didnโ€™t hit that mark, but he did shoot a career-best 41.4% that season. If youโ€™re wondering how the bet is looking to start after Game 1: Jimmy Butler: 16-16 FT (100.0%) Steph Curry: 8-8 FT (100.0%) Will keep you updated as the season goes. Jesus, 16 free throw attempts. โ€œNo chance.โ€ - Steph Curry when asked if Jimmy Butler has any shot at winning the bet Before weโ€™re done with GS, a shoutout to Will Richard (5 points, 14 minutes). We tease Kerr all the time about playing these randos, but this kid looks like he can actually play. TEN) All Luka and Austin The Lakers are gonna struggle hard while LeBronโ€™s out. They just donโ€™t have any other guys on the team that can create. Luka Doncic (43 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists, 34.7% USG) and Austin Reaves (26 points, 9 assists, 30.1% USG) scored or assisted on 97 of the Lakers' 109 points. So wild. Marcus Smart (9 points) was the first sub off the bench. As for DeAndre Aytonโ€™s debut (10 points, 6 rebounds, 4 turnovers), letโ€™s just say it didnโ€™t take long for the Lakersโ€™ fan base to turn on him. Poor guy looked lost out there. "We just started. This is probably the second game we've played together." - Rui Hachimura on what the difference was for the Lakers "The trend I see is that we continue to be a terrible third-quarter team." - JJ Redick The Warriors beat the Lakers 119-109.
