The U.S.’s continued naval blockade and renewed military strikes on Iranian oil tankers are “to stop the exports of any Iranian crude or any crude-related products,” Energy Secretary Chris Wright says. “We are strangling their economy to try to bring either a change in policy from the existing regime or a new regime. Their current strategy is slowly failing for them. Our exports of oil through the Strait of Hormuz are at the highest they have been since the conflict started.”
