Already beat the guy to it. Haven't filed or paid in since Biden's been in office. Don't own any property because the economy won't let me and I'm not scared of prison so what can they do to me? If even an eighth of us came together and did this it would cripple the gov.

There was some controversy in the Senate yesterday that resulted in my right to speak in the chamber being temporarily revoked by the Labor Government, with the support of the Greens. This happened due to comments I made during a debate where I criticised the Greens for their apologist stance toward Islamic extremist terrorism. As a consequence, I was unable to deliver a speech I had prepared, which called for an end to the excessive use of acknowledgments and welcomes to country. Fortunately, I have strong backup in the form of One Nation Senator Malcolm Roberts 🇦🇺 who was able to deliver the speech and instigate this debate on my behalf. Even when they attempt to silence one voice, they cannot silence all of us. The will of the people will always find a way to be heard. Here are the prepared remarks I had intended to deliver: I would like to congratulate the Australian people for their overwhelming rejection of the divisive voice to Parliament at the October referendum. However, it was more than a rejection of the voice. It was a rejection of the entire Uluru Statement – all 26 pages of it. It was a rejection of a treaty and truth-telling – or more accurately, a re-write of history with an eye on financial settlements funded by non-indigenous taxpayers. It was a rejection of identity politics, grievance politics and the activist cult of victimhood. And primarily, it was a rejection of racial division. And one of the most racially divisive features of modern discourse in Australia is welcome to country ceremonies, along with acknowledgements of country. Australians – including many indigenous people – are sick and tired of them. They are sick of being told Australia is not their country, which is what these things effectively do. Welcomes and acknowledgements deny the citizenship and sovereignty held equally by all Australians. They perpetuate the falsehood that prior to 1788, nations existed on this continent. They didn’t. This is a foreign notion, an activist device imported from Canada that does not reflect the reality of Australian history. I remind the Senate of the promise made by leading voice campaigner Marcia Langton who promised no more ‘welcomes to country’ if the voice was rejected. We can only hope this promise is lived up to. Federal taxpayers forked out at least 45,000 dollars for these rituals the previous financial year, although I understand the figure could be much higher as not every government department has come clean on what they spend. It’s not even an genuine pre-settlement ritual for most aborigines. It was invented in 1976 by Ernie Dingo and Richard Walley. I acknowledge Narungga elder Kerry White from South Australia, a great contributor to the ‘no’ campaign, who said these rituals are not even being used correctly. She said last year that it should be reserved for indigenous people welcoming other indigenous people to local country, and that its use by non-indigenous Australians was just virtue-signalling. She wasn’t wrong about the virtue-signalling, that’s for sure. Ms White said: “…they’ve taken our ceremonial process and demeaned it by throwing it out there every day in every aspect of what Australian people do. And I think that is culturally wrong.” She even said ‘welcomes to country’ were an attack on indigenous culture. I also acknowledge another indigenous leader of the ‘no’ campaign, Senator Naminjimpa Price, who said recently that ‘welcomes to country’ were “definitely divisive”. I’m confident I speak for the majority of Australians in saying I wish Professor Langton had included acknowledgements of country too. They’re recited at the beginning of every parliamentary sitting day, every council meeting, and every zoom meeting held by public servants. We hear them at the conclusion of every domestic flight – you can hear the groans in the cabin every time. They have effectively lost all meaning for their constant repetition. To foster national unity, and to help put an end to racial division in this country, it’s time to leave indigenous rituals to indigenous Australians. One Nation is supremely confident we speak for the majority of all Australians regardless of race when we call for an end to welcomes and acknowledgements of country. We know that for many, the promise of an end to them motivated their no vote at the referendum. We call on this Parliament, all other Australian parliaments, all government departments, and every local government in this nation, to stop signalling virtue you don’t possess and stop dividing this country by abusing these indigenous rituals. Australians don’t want them. Australians don’t want racial division, and they said that most emphatically on 14 October at the referendum. Let’s move forward together as one people, one nation under one flag.

I never wanted to be a politician and I still don’t. I’ve had two successful careers and have started a few small businesses. I’ve also worked for some big corporations. I was ready to retire and spend more time with my family – which I’ve done for the past 3 years. I think they’re ready for me to find something else to do. I’m tired of seeing the leaders of our country being influenced by the toxic divisions that are tearing apart our families and society. It’s time for me to step up and do my civic duty. To give back and try and change things for the better. If not me, who? If not now, when? It’s easy to look at the economy and realize that something has gone horribly wrong. Working people, the middle class, and small businesses have been losing ground over the past 20 years. The goose that lays the golden eggs for our country has been kicked around and squeezed to the point where laying more golden eggs is almost impossible. Consider that since 2000 the cost of food has risen more than double the rise in average household income. The cost of a home has risen 6 times and the amount of government spending 5 and a half times. The S&P 500 has gone up 9 times more than the rise in average household income. To everyone who works and is trying to do the right thing for their family, to everyone who is young and wonders why their lives are worse than their parents: you are not wrong. And yet, who have we allowed to have the most influence over our government? Big corporate executives and big union bosses. Big tech, big pharma, big media, big whatever – all trying to control big government in Washington DC. This needs to stop. Our government spends money on the wrong things and spends way too much. One thing the federal government should certainly be responsible for is the security of our borders. Instead, we see millions of people coming in without any accounting for who they are, what they intend to do, or what they’re bringing with them. And they’re being given access to all sorts of handouts at our expense. At a minimum, the federal government and the state governments should be working together to enforce existing laws and secure the border. Seeing our government at war with itself is unacceptable. For my whole life, in every place I’ve ever lived, I’ve seen people working to provide for their family. Values like self-sacrifice, faith, integrity, fidelity, and valor are simply part of who these people are. They do these things not because the government tells them to, but because they know the right things to do - moral obligations that are freely chosen, not mandated by a government. It doesn’t take a village to raise a child, it takes a family, and it takes families to make a village. The sad reality is that many children in our country are suffering. Years of ridiculing and demeaning old fashioned “family values” have taken a toll. Our society’s strength, fundamentally linked to the vitality of the family structure, has been eroded. I want to champion the traditional family as critical for a child’s development and success. The data proves this. However, my approach will be inclusive, recognizing all who step up to provide for their children. I’m not worried about the government being a safety net. I want the government to stop being an impediment. I’m ready to go to DC and see if I can help bring back sanity and civility to the public discourse on these issues and all the other issues that face our great nation. We need bold leaders for such a time as this.

I’m tired of seeing the leaders of our country being influenced by the toxic divisions that are tearing apart our families and society. It’s time for me to step up and do my civic duty. To give back and try and change things for the better. If not me, who? If not now, when? It’s easy to look at the economy and realize that something has gone horribly wrong. Working people, the middle class, and small businesses have been losing ground over the past 20 years. The goose that lays the golden eggs for our country has been kicked around and squeezed to the point where laying more golden eggs is almost impossible. Consider that since 2000 the cost of food has risen more than double the rise in average household income. The cost of a home has risen 6 times and the amount of government spending 5 and a half times. The S&P 500 has gone up 9 times more than the rise in average household income. To everyone who works and is trying to do the right thing for their family, to everyone who is young and wonders why their lives are worse than their parents: you are not wrong. And yet, who have we allowed to have the most influence over our government? Big corporate executives and big union bosses. Big tech, big pharma, big media, big whatever – all trying to control big government in Washington DC. This needs to stop. Our government spends money on the wrong things and spends way too much. One thing the federal government should certainly be responsible for is the security of our borders. Instead, we see millions of people coming in without any accounting for who they are, what they intend to do, or what they’re bringing with them. And they’re being given access to all sorts of handouts at our expense. At a minimum, the federal government and the state governments should be working together to enforce existing laws and secure the border. Seeing our government at war with itself is unacceptable. For my whole life, in every place I’ve ever lived, I’ve seen people working to provide for their family. Values like self-sacrifice, faith, integrity, fidelity, and valor are simply part of who these people are. They do these things not because the government tells them to, but because they know the right things to do - moral obligations that are freely chosen, not mandated by a government. It doesn’t take a village to raise a child, it takes a family, and it takes families to make a village. The sad reality is that many children in our country are suffering. Years of ridiculing and demeaning old fashioned “family values” have taken a toll. Our society’s strength, fundamentally linked to the vitality of the family structure, has been eroded. I want to champion the traditional family as critical for a child’s development and success. The data proves this. However, my approach will be inclusive, recognizing all who step up to provide for their children. I’m not worried about the government being a safety net. I want the government to stop being an impediment. I’m ready to go to DC and see if I can help bring back sanity and civility to the public discourse on these issues and all the other issues that face our great nation. We need bold leaders for such a time as this.

Speaking this morning on her SiriusXM Show, American commentator and media personality Megyn Kelly says that watching Fox News’ coverage on Venezuela has been like watching “Russian propaganda,” with her stating: “I turned on Fox News yesterday, and I'm sorry, but it was like watching Russian propaganda. There was nothing skeptical. It was all rah-rah cheerleading, yes, let's go. And that's fine. I love our military as much as anyone, and I believe in President Trump, but there are serious reasons to just exercise a note of caution before we just get on the rah-rah train. All right. I have done that enough times in my career as a Fox News anchor to have been embarrassed enough to know I'm going to stay on the yellow light for this. I'm not in the green-light territory. I'm not in the red-light territory either, but I am staying in the yellow-light territory for now. I see all of the strategic advantages of what he's done. Trust me. I do. I see that other countries like Russia and China and Cuba were all over Venezuela and its oil posing a potential threat to the United States. I get that. That's actually the most persuasive argument and obviously the real one and none of this bullshit about law enforcement. But I have seen what happens when you cheerlead, unabashedly, U.S. intervention in foreign countries thinking it's for our good and for the national and the international good only to wind up with what we've called quagmire in places like Iraq, not to mention Libya. We're not great at going into these foreign countries, decapitating them at the leadership level, and then saying either we're going to steer the country to a better place or it's going to steer itself. Either one. They just -- nine times out of 10, they don't work out well. And what does it mean in terms of boots on the ground? Trump is saying, I'm actually fine with that in Venezuela. Well, whose boots? Because I have a 16 year-old boy, and I have a 12-year old boy, and I have a 14 year-old girl. And a lot of my listeners have children too who are actually the ones who might have to fill the boots. So I think I speak for a lot of moms and dads for that matter when I say I'm staying in yellow territory until we know more, and I will not be joining the Fox News cheerleading brigade this time. My name is Darren Stallcup and I am running for congress to replace Nancy Pelosi 🇺🇸🧵 I was born and raised in The San Francisco Bay Area. I know every corner of this city and have traveled North, East, South and West our great beautiful country. Growing up I have seen our community go from being the cultural capital of the world to the technology capital. I saw the good days and now I see the pain. San Francisco used to be one of the greatest cities in the world and it still can be if we stop the corruption, chaos and lawlessness and focus on real common-sense solutions. Our government is the problem. The disconnect between Sacramento and California Families is appalling. We pay the most in taxes and have the least representation. The 4th largest economy in the world, but third world conditions across the street from billion dollar tech offices. The cost of living is through the roof. People are living check to check just to pay an arm and a leg to get by. Families are leaving California. Our local businesses are closing down. Crime is skyrocketing and local leaders and the media keeps telling us "Crime Is Down". There is a housing crisis. A Homelessness crisis. A fentanyl crisis. Not to mention the corrupt politicians and non-profits who benefit from the suffering on the streets. Billions of dollars have been spent only for the situation I walk these streets every single day. I don’t sit in offices. I don’t take donor money. I am on the frontlines, in the trenches, fighting the good fight. I help the homeless every day and night. I hand out blankets, food, toiletries, ponchos and winter jackets. I talk to them. I listen. Forming relationships with the less fortunate on the streets is essential to understanding the humanitarian crisis in our community. Unlike the elite democrat 1%, I don't see homeless people or drug addicts as a dollar sign. Besides volunteering at local shelters and churches, I have spent years as a neighborhood watch in SOMA, Chinatown and Union Square. Not to mention everywhere in between. I have made the most citizens arrests in San Francisco. Some people have even started calling me the Batman. In Chinatown, I am known as The Chinatown Cowboy. After stopping two restaurant robberies downtown San Francisco they are calling me a bunch of different names. When shopping at our last few remaining grocery stores (see mass theft for more.) I have been known to chase down thieves, No matter where I am, I have always during these chaotic and lawless times, I have always made a sincere effort to ensure the safety and well being of elders, women and children. I am running for office because our leaders have forgotten that family is the most important thing in this world. I organized the World Peace Movement AND Fentanyl-Free Playgrounds. I led three different fentanyl road trips across America to raise awareness about the widespread dangers of Fentanyl and how it is not just a California problem but a problem for our entire country and now I am waking people up. Being the tip of the spear in the fight against fentanyl has lead me to speak at City Hall as well as National and International TV. Besides pouring out my blood, sweat and tears for San Francisco while our local leaders sit on their ass in some mansion on top of the hill, I enjoy planting Redwood Trees and cleaning up our waterways. I know I’m young. I know I don’t have a Harvard law degree. But what I do have is real experience... not from offices, behind keyboards or fundraisers, but from the streets, from the people, from the heart of San Francisco, from the heart of America. It’s really important for Americans to realize that this is a bigggg misconception that applies to all immigration, not just China. The people who come over the border, regardless of whether they’re Chinese, Indian, Mexican, Central American, generally are “not their best”. I use quotes because that’s something Trump said, “they don’t send their best”. And he is absolutely correct. There are exceptions, but the people who cross the border, tend to be criminals, people who can’t a get a job, the uneducated, etc. Why? The educated can get jobs in their home countries. Or can immigrate to the US legally (at least used to). If you have a criminal record in your home country, you don’t have one in the USA. If you screwed up and dropped out of high school, you can cut vegetables in the back of a restaurant. Law abiding citizens of foreign countries, no matter what you think about the greatness of America, are not thrilled to break the law and enter a country like this. This immigration for many if not most of these countries is economic. Most of these people are not coming for a better life. They are coming for the currency arbitrage. Or at least that used to be the case. From 2021 to 2024 border crossing immigrants were getting free housing and cash debit cards (look it up) in places like NYC. So that, again, brought another type of person, but, again, it was “not their best”. So, unless you’re in a country that is experiencing civil war, or maybe a total basket case, you mainly go to the US via the illegal border, not for a better life but for currency arbitrage or because you don’t have a better option in your home country which has made it tough for you to get a job for whatever reason. Okay, now let’s talk a bit more about China. For the Chinese that cross the border, life is way better in China. They speak the language. There is less crime. They’re surrounded by their family. They don’t need a car in most places. It’s the same culture and there friends are there. Life is pretty good in China, and because they’re going to work hard in the USA too, it’s probably better in China across every single socioeconomic quartile of society too (unless you have a criminal record or can’t get a job for whatever reason). So when Americans write things like “Chinese are dying to come to America”, there could be a political issue there eg on the wrong side of the communist party, but it’s mainly Americope, something we tell ourselves. It may have been true 10 years ago, but it’s no longer true. America needs to change that. We need to go back to when everyone wanted to come here, not just for money but for a better life. And this is something you should believe even if you don’t want immigration. If this keeps up, if we keep letting life decline, eventually the currency will too, and all these people who actually work quite hard will not only stop coming, but many will leave too. The replies are all going to basically be like (without saying it) “shut up white American. You don’t know” Yeah but I do know because I talk to people who people who look like me don’t talk to. Life is pretty good in China, and because they’re going to work hard in the USA too, it’s probably better in China across every single socioeconomic quartile of society too (unless you have a criminal record or can’t get a job for whatever reason). So when Americans write things like “Chinese are dying to come to America”, there could be a political issue there eg on the wrong side of the communist party, but it’s mainly Americope, something we tell ourselves. It may have been true 10 years ago, but it’s no longer true. America needs to change that. We need to go back to when everyone wanted to come here, not just for money but for a better life. And this is something you should believe even if you don’t want immigration. If this keeps up, if we keep letting life decline, eventually the currency will too, and all these people who actually work quite hard will not only stop coming, but many will leave too. I would like to wish all my compatriots a happy Independence Day, happy Independence Zimbabwe. The independence of our country, unlike many other African countries, came through blood that was shed. There are so many Zimbabweans who lie in unmarked graves from Tanzania to Zambia to Botswana to Mozambique, and they put their lives on the line so that you and I could have the independence that we did not have under colonial rule. There is a distinct difference between those who fought for the independence of our country and died, never seeing an independent Zimbabwe, and those who took over from colonial rule and then destroyed our country through incompetence, corruption, and many other afflictions that should never have been there. I am in no doubt at all that had our country not become independent, I and many Black citizens would probably not be where we are today, thanks to the early gains of independence. Sadly, I now find myself as a journalist and a Zimbabwean with NO freedom to speak, to write, and to exist as a full citizen in my country post independence after the derailment of the independence dream. Many of our people did not have the opportunities that I personally got, and many others got, to advance our lives. It is unfortunate that we find ourselves where we are today, not because independence is bad, but because we ended up with selfish, corrupt, and incompetent individuals who abandoned the principles and aspirations that inspired many Zimbabweans to go out there and fight so that their country could be free. So on this day, when we celebrate 46 years of independence, the same zeal and drive that defined those who died fighting for our country must be carried forward by those who are alive today, to make sure that the country is restored to where it is supposed to be. Zimbabwe is one of the richest countries under the sun. It has almost every mineral that you can think of, and it has some of the best soils in the world. There is no reason for any Zimbabwean to be unemployed, to fail to earn an income, or to go to bed on an empty stomach. There is absolutely no reason for any Zimbabwean to struggle if the country is led by people who know what they are doing and who put the country first, the national interest first, ahead of their own selfish needs. Whilst colonialism was a terrible stain on the history of our country, there are lessons that can be drawn from that period. Rhodesia was run like a business, not like a fiefdom. The fact that most of the central hospitals that exist today were built during the colonial period, with the exception of Chitungwiza, tells us that infrastructure was prioritised, even if it was designed to serve a minority. That reality does not excuse colonial injustice, but it exposes the scale of failure after independence. Forty-six years later, the government has built only one central hospital. Around 2,500 women die every year during childbirth due to a lack of adequate maternity facilities. The largest hospital in Zimbabwe still relies on a maternity theatre built in 1977, and even then only one of its two theatres is functional, with the working one having been refurbished by a South African bank. That is a damning indictment on the current leadership. The fact that millions of Zimbabweans have been forced to leave the country to take up menial jobs in South Africa, as waiters or farm workers, is an indictment on the current leadership. The fact that people like myself and many others have had to leave home out of fear for our lives is an indictment on the current leadership. Whilst the leadership has failed, we as citizens of Zimbabwe also carry a responsibility towards our country, in whatever space we occupy. We must stop following personalities and start following ideas, whether in the ruling party or in the opposition. Our country has been destroyed because we follow personalities, many of whom are vacuous and empty, and when they fail, they drag the nation down with them as our leaders have done. We must not wait for a Messiah to come and save us from the afflictions we face today. We have a responsibility to do what is right for our country. During the liberation struggle, leaders were changed at different points because the struggle was never about personalities, it was about an idea, an independent Zimbabwe where every Zimbabwean, black, white, green, or yellow, has the same rights and opportunities to pursue a better life. So as we celebrate, and we should celebrate, we must also reflect on our responsibilities going forward. We celebrate because independence itself was a noble idea and remains a noble idea. When things are bad, you do not burn down the house, you fix what is broken. We must honour and remember those who lost their lives so that people like myself could go to college, become journalists, and be recognised internationally, as many Zimbabwean professionals have been, some even advising presidents across the continent and beyond. Zimbabwe has some of the most accomplished people anywhere in the world, and it should not be where it is today. It is therefore up to us, as Zimbabweans, to make sure that we do what is right for our country. Once again, happy Independence to my compatriots, and thank you to all the stalwarts who laid down their lives for us to be independent and to the countries that supported our struggle. We could not have achieved independence in 1980 without Mozambique, Zambia, Tanzania, Botswana, and many others who stood with us. They did well for us and we thank them. It is those who destroyed the country who should hang their heads in shame today. My heart bleeds when I see so many young Zimbabweans with university degrees, yet ending up as victims of drug abuse because there is no work to go to. There are no opportunities available that are aligned with what they went to university to study. It is a tragic indictment of the situation we find ourselves in today. Today we have become a nation where boreholes are being drilled in the middle of cities because the rulers have failed to do something as basic as delivering water into people’s homes. Today we have become a nation where the rest of the region laughs at us because our roads are riddled with potholes, yet the leadership drives Ferraris on those same roads. Today we have become a nation where even our O-level pass rate has not gone beyond 34% because of the failure of leadership to do what needs to be done. Today we cannot even feed ourselves. We have to rely on food aid, and yet we were once colloquially referred to as the breadbasket of the region. These are some of the realities we should reflect on. I could go on and on, but at this point, it is not necessary. To our leaders, I say, how does it feel when you hear the very people you lead saying Ian Smith was better, when they say colonialism was better? How do you feel? Or do you even feel anything at all when those words are spoken? Of course, colonialism was brutal. Of course, Ian Smith was a racist leader who upheld a minority regime built on exclusion and oppression. But it is a damning indictment of your failed leadership that some of our own people now feel pushed to the point of romanticising that dark past. Independence was meant to usher in dignity, opportunity, and shared prosperity for every Zimbabwean, regardless of colour or creed. It was meant to restore ownership of our future to the people. Yet today, you cannot deny that a small, privileged few are the primary beneficiaries of that independence, while the overwhelming majority are trapped in poverty, penury, and relentless suffering. That is not what liberation was fought for. However, nothing can justify a failure to be grateful to those who fought and died for the independence of our country. They did their part. It is now up to us to do our part and ensure that our country becomes what it is meant to be. Happy Independence Zimbabwe.

Today at the funeral of the late great Neville Garrick who was Bob Marley’s friend, and more importantly his design and graphic artist. Almost every Bob Marley album, and his famous concerts were designed by Neville Garrick. He is the man who designed all those great Bob Marley albums we have in our homes, and he also designed Bunny Wailer’s Black Heart-man record, and those iconic Burning Spear albums. The man you see dancing in the video and lighting a chalice is Hartnel Henry, popularly known in reggae circles as Sky High. He was Ziggy Marley’s road manager when I met him in 1993, he literally brought up and helped the careers of all the famous Marley boys after their dad died in 1981. My childhood friend and Zimbabwean soccer legend, George Nechironga who was joint soccer star of the year with Peter Ndlovu met Sky High at Namibia’s independence where Ziggy was performing, and the Zim national football team was also playing. Sky High eventually took a pilgrimage visit to Zimbabwe with his wife in 1993 as most famous Rastafarians did during those days. He asked me what I wanted to do with my life after finishing journalism school, I told him that my dream was to do my post-grad journalism studies abroad in England. Sky High and his wife Stefanie made sure that my dream came true, that is why I know the power of humanity in transforming lives, that is why I do what I do today. Through his good heart I came out of the ghetto to become the person I am today. All these big scholarships came later, but it was a Rastaman from Jamaica who paid for my gateway to go to England and study, it was him who opened the gate for I’n’I to fly out of the limitations around me! It was an inspirational encounter as a 21 year old Zimbabwean being mentored by a Jamaican millionaire and his wife, they didn’t have to, but they are good people. Through the power of the most high, Jah Rastafari, I am forever indebted to him and his wife. And when I see them grieve like they are doing today, I grieve with them too, they are genuine bredrens who are faithful to their beliefs. Their pain is my pain too, you should never forget how you became who you are today in your greatness or fame whichever you have! 30 years later, we are still in communication with each other, when I was in prison for exposing State corruption, he sent solidarity messages! If we as Zimbabweans could love and respect each other as these men and women do to those they met as they tour around the world, we could go far! There is too much hatred and bad-mind agwaan in the Zimbabwean community! Rest in Peace father Neville Garrick, your great works live on! I believe the Rudo here is the late Squadron Leader Rudo Mutikani. I understand she joined the war when she was 14. There is a reason why I have a deep respect for real war veterans. Apart from the fact that my father is one, it's knowing that those who really fought for this country did without the cunning & calculative intent for power. They genuinely fought for Zimbabwe. Most were child soldiers. I am glad that Robert Tapfumaneyi is giving these gallant sons and daughters the platform to speak for themselves. I have watched countless episodes, and you can tell those who fought don't brag about war. Majority of those who were at the front had little education. Most of them came back to a country that prioritized those who didn't fight. A country whose reconcilliation policies even favored those who had collaborated or served the colonial regime. Cde Rudo could not write her own name and it took the intervention of Perrance Shiri. How many of the thousands who came from the bush were in the same boat. From what I gather, there was no career guidance. The lucky ones had someone telling them to go back to school but a lot fell through the cracks. I have seen a lot of disdain being laid upon them especially after the ZW$50K which by the time they got it was equivalent to USD4000 (Present day $8,229.00). It was a bribe by a failed government which had ignored their plight for over 17 years. When you look at the sacrifice of war, that amount is nothing. Our government failed to foresee the challenges of civilian integration and did not prepare these folk for life in the independent Zimbabwe. They bred a crop of dependents when they could have eased them into independence. Every interview is a comrade wallowing in poverty. In other countries, there are military hospitals, veterans preferential programs , loans etc and civilians don't complain about it because they have a better life courtesy of the sacrifices of their veterans. In our country, civilians are poor. When they have sought an alternative government, ZANU PF has used some of the dependent veterans to suppress the will of the people. That has negated all the good sacrifices the war veterans did during the war. Now, civilians feel like veterans don't deserve any respect nor preferential or affirmitive programs. But, as you listen to the stories of those who actually fought, you realize they too are victims of the same regime. It is not too late for the few that remain to do right by the people. As long as they remain on the sidelines or propping the Mnangagwa regime, they will die as paupers while thieves grow caterpillar bellies.

She then claimed: “I would not be able to sleep at night, Richard, if a domestic abuser who was sentenced to time in prison couldn’t go there because there wasn’t a prison place available and we had to send him back to his victim at their property.” Richard immediately pulled her up on the logic: “Minister, Minister, Minister, I don’t see the logic of that at all! What’s the difference in not being able to send a violent offender to prison because it’s full and releasing a violent offender from prison who’s very likely to reoffend? We know that these men are recidivists. They do it again and again. What’s the difference between not sending one to prison and letting one out?” She then argued “these offenders will have served time in prison”, and they would have been released at some point anyway. Oh, that’s ok then. Let’s release everyone who has served a bit of their sentence. Ridiculous argument! Then came the usual promises of tags and “world-first restriction zones”, with the line that if they breach they’ll go straight back. Richard wasn’t having it. He tells her that victims don’t want them released at all and they don’t trust the government: “They don’t trust the measures that you put into place to stop these men hounding them and attacking them again. They don’t trust that the tags always work because they don’t. And they don’t trust that the men will follow the instructions they’ve been given about where they can’t go because some of them will just do it anyway.” He warns there will be inevitable consequences for victims: “There are going to be consequences of these early releases and it’s going to be more attacks on women who are begging you not to release their attackers from jail early. That’s the reality. Not a comforting protocol about tags and restricted areas which if the offender is determined enough just won’t work.” She had no real answer because there isn’t one. Just the same empty lines: “Ensuring that we have a functioning and effective and sustainable criminal justice system is fundamentally important for the safety of our country.” You’re not ensuring that.
