Today marks the 50th Anniversary of the First Summit of Heads of State and Government that took place in Algiers in 1975. The Summit addressed the plight of poorer nations. It called for a new era of cooperation in international relations and for dialogue between producers and consumers in the interests of global economic development, security of supply and market stability. And it reaffirmed the sovereignty of #OPEC Member Countries over their natural resources and their right to develop. The Summit also led to the establishment of the OPEC Fund for International Development in 1976.

We continue to work on the first Global Peace Summit, which has the potential to start the path to just peace. We are working with the Swiss side on this. Today, we agreed on the final details, and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that as many leaders and countries as possible attend the Summit. This is a matter of principle. The world is capable of stopping any aggressor. If the world works together and by the rules of a global majority, no aggression will be able to withstand such global pressure. Together, we must force Russia to make peace. There will be a lot of work in the coming weeks, including behind closed doors with partners, to ensure that the Summit is truly meaningful.

Today, a conference took place focused on a key point of the Peace Formula: one of the fundamental conditions for ending the war and preventing future aggression—the withdrawal of the occupying forces from Ukraine. This is essential to restoring justice. Representatives from over fifty countries and international organizations participated, reflecting a broad representation. Yesterday, in Latvia, parallel to our Crimea Platform summit, another conference was held on a different Peace Formula point dedicated to the full implementation of the UN Charter. This event saw participation from more than sixty countries and international organizations. From August to November, each point of the Peace Formula is being addressed through these conferences, each with strong global representation. Meetings have already been held on nuclear safety, energy, food security, and environmental issues—after the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam and all the attacks by Russia. Every aspect of Russian aggression will be documented in a comprehensive paper that will serve as the foundation for the second Peace Summit—a step-by-step path to peace. At the end of October, a crucial conference on humanitarian aspects will take place, focusing on the release of prisoners and the return of deported children. By November, we will be ready to present the final document for the second Peace Summit.

Many countries will be represented, different continents, including the countries of the Global South. It is very important because in such matters as food security, the fate of millions of people in Africa, Asia, and other parts of the world directly depends on how fast the world will be in implementing the Peace Formula. I am grateful to Saudi Arabia for this platform for negotiations. Recently, a meeting in the same format was held in Copenhagen. We are moving step by step towards the Global Peace Summit. It is very important that the world sees: a fair and honest end to Russian aggression will benefit everyone in the world. Everyone! Liberating Ukrainian land from the occupiers means restoring full respect for international law and the UN Charter. Eliminating all threats created by Russia to Ukrainian and global security means returning peace to international relations and stability to global life. We are preparing for the first, inaugural Peace Summit in June. Our team works with the teams of our key partners to ensure that the Summit is truly global. We can certainly say that countries from all continents will be represented, from various parts of the world and with different perspectives on global development. They are all, however, in agreement that the UN Charter and foundational international conventions are binding documents for all countries, including countries like Russia, where insanity reigns. We are preparing for the first, inaugural Peace Summit in June. Our team works with the teams of our key partners to ensure that the Summit is truly global. We can certainly say that countries from all continents will be represented, from various parts of the world and with different perspectives on global development. They are all, however, in agreement that the UN Charter and foundational international conventions are binding documents for all countries, including countries like Russia, where insanity reigns. The global majority must force Russia to make peace, and it can do it. The path to just peace can start in June.

At the invitation of the Government of Portugal, the Zimbabwe delegation, which is campaigning for the country’s non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, attended the Portuguese campaign event in New York City this Thursday, as Portugal is also vying for a non-permanent seat on the Security Council. The occasion reflected growing diplomatic solidarity and cooperation between Zimbabwe and Portugal within the multilateral space.
