The... command’s spokesman, DSP Mansir Hassan, said in a statement on Tuesday that the Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, directed that the officers involved be identified and invited for investigation, with those found culpable to be sanctioned appropriately. "The Command wishes to clarify that routine roadblocks and stop-and-search operations has been curtailed , except where there is credible intelligence on the movement of criminals, arms, or other prohibited items. "The Command, however, notes that the route in the video has previously been used by criminal elements, it’s a suburb of millennium city. It was along the same route that Police operatives previously recovered 20 AK-47 rifles," the statement partly read. [‘MATRIC DANCE’ ESCORT POLICE OFFICERS] The Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has instructed that police officers who were seen transporting a learner to a matric dance function using a police vehicle in Estcourt be temporarily removed from operations pending internal investigation on their conduct. The officers, as seen in a video which has gone viral on various media platforms and social media, were on duty when they transported the child of a colleague to a matric dance event. In doing so, the members neglected their primary responsibilities of providing much needed police visibility, attending to complaints and keeping residents safe and secured. “I have instructed the District Commissioner of Uthukela to ensure that the immediate commander of the officers involved must take urgent disciplinary steps against them. We cannot afford to have police officers who report for duty but use state resources for their personal gain. I have further instructed our finance and supply chain management officers to determine the financial loss that the state could have suffered by that unauthorised activity. State petrol, state time and running cost of that vehicle should be claimed from those members. Communities always complain that when they call police stations they are told that there are no vans, whilst police officers are galavanting with state resources that are meant to serve the communities”, said Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi. Police are reminded to be professional at all times and protect the image of the organisation. The limited state resources should only be used for authorised official duties and anyone who is found to be misusing vehicles, stationary or any state property will be met with the wrath of internal police disciplinary processes and a criminal charge which might even lead to dismissal.

A Massachusetts police department submitted a request for a warrant to Facebook to obtain the name and identity behind a burner account that they say was harassing one of their officers, who also happens to be the son of the chief of police. The warrant was approved by a clerk magistrate and the department learned the identity was that of a police officer from a neighboring town. The only problem? Many found the alleged harassing posts to not be harassing at all and the city council has called for an investigation. The corporation counsel for the city of Fall River says the city council can not call for the investigation, only the mayor can, who has stated the police did nothing wrong.

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Fatai Tijani, who addressed journalists in Ikeja on Tuesday, said three suspects have been arrested in connection with the recovery. He said the suspects, identified as Chinedu David, 29; Ezeagwu Chukwuma, 38; and Ifeanyi Ogbeanyi, 45, were arrested by operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit on Saturday night. He added that the suspects were apprehended with an unregistered truck loaded with military camouflage uniforms and cartons of substances suspected to be illicit drugs allegedly heading to the Southeeastern part of the country.
