Ever heard the expression โ€œshit rolls downhillโ€? Well we hit the bottom of the hill this week. Jobs were stacked way too tight on the schedule. Our operators were running 7 days a week, not finishing a job, and moving on to the next one with plans to return. Their hours were getting out of control too. Hitting 75 hours per week each. A surefire way to reach burnout. Theyโ€™d be rushed to get to the next job, set a task to return to the last one, and move all the equipment over to the new one. This meant cash flow came to a screeching halt while expenses shot to the moon. Returning to a job to finish means a minimum of $500 in costs just to bring the equipment there and back. An unnecessary expense had we just took the time to finish properly in the first place. Iโ€™ve been nose deep in marketing and sales while this was happening and trusted that the production process was working. It wasnโ€™t. They finally reached out and asked for help... at 8pm. We had 4 jobs set to start the next day and one of the trailers broke an axle. Rescheduling over 50 jobs is no easy task, and one they were all avoiding that created the problem in the first place. Itโ€™s difficult to tuck your tail between your legs and let a customer know their job needs to be pushed back up to 30 days. So I set into triage mode. Called each customer personally that was set to start the next day and let them know what was going on and what we needed to do. I then laid out every job on the schedule and set about not only fixing the current problem, but making sure it didnโ€™t happen in the future. I wiped the jobs off the rest of the week so the team could go finish the jobs we left open ended and finish them properly. I then cleared every job off Fridays and weekends. This prevents burnout, overtime, and gives us 3 days a week to absorb rainouts, equipment issues, and job delays. This pushed the schedule 2 months further out, so I had to do the part everyone dreaded. Alerting the customers of their new start date. I reached out individually to each one to let them know. Fortunately, our customers are incredible and were very understanding. Nobody cancelled their job. Our operators have room to breathe, our quality can stay top notch, our cash flow returns, and the bandaid is ripped off. Now letโ€™s get to work damnit!

"A new UN report says Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa is ISIS โ€œprimary targetโ€ for assassination." Thatโ€™s a blatant lie! UN sold out his principles for money. It is an open secret that this is a lie. Jolaniโ€™s origins are with ISIS, and his current forces are teeming with their fighters. Over the last fortnight, after the Kurdsโ€”who crushed ISISโ€”engaged in combat, Jolani intervened to free thousands of ISIS terrorists. Just two months ago, a militant from Jolaniโ€™s ranks assassinated two U.S. soldiers and an interpreter during an initial meeting with the U.S. Today, ISIS flags and extremist doctrines are normalized in schools and public squares, while the UN remains silent on the specific locations where the first and second ISIS leaders were eliminated. The two top ISIS "Caliphs" killed by U.S. forces in areas under the control of Jolani (HTS) and near the Turkish border are: 1-Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi (October 2019): The founder of ISIS was killed during a U.S. Special Forces raid in the village of Barisha, Idlib. This location was only a few kilometers from the Turkish border. The Syrian Kurdish forces (SDF) provided the critical intelligence that led to his discovery. 2-Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurashi (February 2022): The second leader of ISIS was killed in a similar U.S. operation in the town of Atmeh, Idlib. Like Baghdadi, he was hiding in a territory controlled by Jolaniโ€™s forces and situated right on the border with Turkey. The Key Controversy: Both leaders were found hiding in Idlib, a region under the strict control of Abu Mohammad al-Jolani and monitored by Turkish military posts. This has led many to question how the world's most wanted terrorists could hide in such a small, controlled area without the knowledge or protection of local authorities and regional powers. Finally, it seems the person who wrote this report is the same UN employee filmed in that car having sex with his colleague. ๐Ÿ˜

Pretty over catching flak for just existing on peanut's server. let's recap the "yOuRe RuInInG tHe SeRvEr" narrative: - Spent a lot of dedicated time helping teach/decorate/guide new people through the game - Suggested the SAM site solution to peanut in S2 (which fixed the problem for the whole server) - The imbalance of team numbers was a "fun problem" so I suggested the naval war as numbers are not nearly as important and everyone will have more fun doing it - Farmed my ass off to not only build a big cool fantasy base for Peanut in S1, but also to supply materials for multiple RPers and others who were struggling to get stuff on their own across every wipe so far. - Coupled with the point above, before peanut had pheetus to farm for him, I also secretly supplied his team with nearly a box of low grade and cloth overnight (really difficult resources to get) so they could continue playing with meds instead of needing to spend a day grinding for them. I never told him or anyone but everyone on stream new we did it to support the nut. - Went out of my way on multiple occasions to go on rescue missions to save people from the deep sea, cargo, and oil rigs I understand that people only see things through the point of view of their streamer, and don't know what I'm doing on my stream, but I spent the entire current wipe just hanging out with my friend, recruiting noobs to do silly ninja role play with us while teaching them about the game. One morning, without asking, I got a DM telling me I was unrestricted and could use guns, so I took an AK out to the deep sea and killed scientists (poorly) and it caused the entire server to lose their minds. Suddenly i have 20k hours (this number increases every time i hear about it), am going to use my 'expert builder skillz' to raid bases, and will abuse everything. Except I didn't do any of that. I still did stupid ninja RP for another 30-40 hours having silly interactions and using C4 for things like "Door breaking ninjitsu" until I was getting harassed to the point where I might as well have joined a sweaty pvp team anyways (so I did, and I did it out of spite). After joining said team I've still mostly only used pistols, not that it matters, but just wanted to include this. I'm too autistic and frustrated to understand how people are coming to the conclusion that I'm such a villain, kind of wish y'all would just tune in and watch instead.

You may like or not like the John Wick films, but Keanu Reeves pulled off his gun handling brilliantly. I doubt Reeves was a gun nut, but he spent time learning the trade at Taran Tactical Innovations. He trained with tactical experts and if you watch, instead of firing an endless stream of bullets, he actively tracks his ammo, ejects his empty mags, and performs "press checks" to confirm rounds are chambered. (This last you have to watch for.) It's refreshing He trained a long time so he had muscle memory to switch safeties, clear jams, and switch weapons blindly. It wasn't fake - training footage shows him clearing live-fire courses faster than some competitive shooters. Here's a couple of examples: CENTRAL AXIS RELOCK When you see John Wick holding his pistol close to his chest, with his body kind of turned to the side, this is the C. A. R. system. This stance is specifically designed for close-quarters fighting. It gives the user a stable, compact platform that makes it almost impossible for an enemy to disarm them while allowing for quick target transitions. Compare to how Alan Ritchson in Reacher gets disarmed at the drop of a hat. (I'm not saying Ritchson is unrealistic. I doubt Reacher would have learned C.A.R. as a military cop.) GUN FU He also spent 5 months training in martial arts. The team invented what they called "Gun Fu", using Judo & Jiu-Jitsu submission locks to hold enemies in place, then use the pistol as an up-close finishing tool. When I think how Keanu Reeves started out as an actor that I was absolutely sure was a terrible flash in the pan (Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, Speed, etc.) he sure proved me wrong. He has grown into one of the best actors we have around. Yeah, the John Wick series went on too long (only really needed the first film), but that's not Reeves fault.

This is real gun camera footage from a P-51 Mustang, chasing a German Bf 109 down to the treetops until it goes down in flames. The American pilot flying it, Lt John Kirla, shot down five enemy planes in a single day, becoming an ace in one mission. This footage captures one of his victories over a Bf 109. This is his story.. From Trainee to the Yoxford Boys John Kirla was not a born fighter ace. He was an ordinary young American who had come up through flight training in Texas, graduating at the start of 1944. He learned his trade on trainers, moved up to fighters, and got just 15 hours in the P-51 Mustang before being sent to England as a replacement pilot. He joined the 362nd Fighter Squadron of the 357th Fighter Group, a unit based at Leiston that was already becoming a legend. The 357th was the first group in the Eighth Air Force fully equipped with the Mustang, and it would go on to produce more aces than any other fighter group in the Eighth, including Chuck Yeager and Bud Anderson. Kirla was the newest pilot in a squadron already filled with experienced aces. His job was to escort American bombers deep into Germany and protect them from the Luftwaffe. On November 27 1944, he got the day that would define him. Five Victories in One Mission That morning the 357th ran headlong into a massive swarm of German fighters trying to get at the bombers. Kirla's flight dropped their fuel tanks and dived straight into the middle of it. Almost immediately, the fight became a swirling, low-level brawl of Mustangs, Messerschmitts, and Focke-Wulfs twisting across the sky. Kirla picked out his first target and opened fire, and from that moment he did not stop hunting. In his own account, he spotted a Bf 109 that was attacking an American bomber. He went after it, closed to just 30 yards, and when the German threw his fighter into a tight barrel roll straight down toward the ground, Kirla stayed glued to his tail and, in his words, clobbered him all over until he went down. An Ace in a Day He kept finding more. Again and again through that wild, sprawling fight, Kirla latched onto an enemy aircraft and did not let go. At one point he watched a German fighter shoot down one of his fellow Mustang pilots right in front of him, and closed in for revenge. As he described it afterward, he opened fire, saw pieces start to fly off the enemy aircraft, and watched it fall out of the sky like a leaf drifting to the ground. Rather than breaking away and climbing back to safety, Kirla chased his targets down low, following them almost to the ground, the fighters weaving over villages and treetops until the enemy aircraft finally went down. By the time the fight was over, John Kirla had shot down five German aircraft in a single mission. He had become an ace in a day, one of the relatively few American fighter pilots to achieve that in a single mission. The Mustang That Changed the Air War The Mustang was the aircraft that made days like Kirla's possible. The P-51 combined long range, high speed, and deadly firepower, and it could follow the bombers all the way to their targets and fight the German fighters on equal or better terms. By the end of the war, P-51 groups had claimed close to 5,000 enemy aircraft shot down, about half of all American air-to-air kills in the European theater. Kirla's own group, the 357th, became the top-scoring Mustang group in the Eighth Air Force. Flying one of the finest escort fighters of the war, men like Kirla helped turn the tide of the air war over Germany. The gun-camera film rolling every time he pressed the trigger captured it all, including the footage you are watching. John Kirla's Legacy John Kirla flew on to the end of his combat tour and finished the war as a double ace, credited with 11 and a half enemy aircraft destroyed in the air. He was awarded the Silver Star and the Distinguished Flying Cross for his courage in the skies over Europe. He had gone from a trainee with a handful of hours in a Mustang to one of the deadliest fighter pilots in one of the deadliest fighter groups of the war, in the span of a single year. The footage of his Mustang chasing a Bf 109 down to the trees is only a few seconds long. But behind those few seconds is a young American who climbed into a fighter, dove into a swarm of the enemy, and shot down five of them before the day was out. This was the story of John Kirla. I post a story like this every single day. Most people never see them. Follow so you don't miss the next one.

The MGF Marshalls (who by the way is one of the best run orgs in the country, more on that in a future post!) called and in his 1st game and 2nd AB with a 1-2 count in a left on left matchup with the shadows in play, Grant took a 92 mph FB off the shoulder and into the right side of his face. The only time in 5 years w/o a face shield on his helmet, itโ€™s the only time heโ€™s been hit above the shoulder. Was watching the game on live stream, and it was hard to tell where it actually hit him? Grant immediately started walking to the dugout and I couldnโ€™t figure out why he was doing that, because he should be either staying at home plate gathering his bearings or going to 1B. What you donโ€™t see is the catcher and pitcher who are close friends of Grantโ€™s growing up facing each other in HS and teammates throughout their CBA summer/fall travel ball experiences, looking on with what just happened? The pitcher and catcher who Iโ€™m close with as well, are in shock and the pitcher then walks into the opposing dugout to see if Grant is okay? Grant was okay, but he wasnโ€™t okay?! That helpless feeling again when youโ€™re not there and your son has something almost tragic happen?! I was calling friends who I knew were at the game and they said he had ice on his cheek in the dugout. After the game Grant was going to drive 4 hours home and get home at 3am to attend his cousinโ€™s church service to listen to him speak at his 2 year church missionary farewell. He got home late as I said and woke up yesterday with his face extremely swollen and his eye already black, so we saw his uncle at church, who is a pediatric dentist and he scheduled a CT Scan with an oral surgeon buddy. Grant went in this morning for the scan and to our surprise, NO broken bones. Thank you to the countless people who text and reached out with worry and wanting updates. The baseball circle is small, but big at the same time and is a comforter! Once again his mother Heidi was working overtime to protect her kids, just like my daughterโ€™s car accident 3 weeks ago. Gao Xiaoxian, #TheEarlySpring screenwriter and producer shared that #jingboran prepared Luan Nian's biography in PPT at the first project meeting. also shared her impression of #sunqian for first time. she recalled that when Jing Boran first came to discuss the project, he brought a tablet with a keyboard. Once he opened it, it turned out he had personally put together a character profile of Luan Nian, along with his own understanding of the role. โ€œHe broke down the character with the main creative team as if he were presenting a ppt. At that moment, I thought: He is literally Luan Nian himself.โ€ After reading the script, Jing Boran had a very deep understanding of his character. He also took the initiative to suggest that this idol drama should have its own distinctive aesthetic and visual identity. He actively discussed Luan Nianโ€™s outfits and even the interior design and decor of his home with the team. He was extremely meticulous when it came to the styling. Before filming even started, he sent truckload after truckload of his own clothes to the set. in the original novel, Shang Zhitao is from Harbin and is 172cm tall, a height that Sun Qian herself perfectly matches. During their first meeting in person, Sun Qian directly expressed her deep admiration for the character of Shang Zhitao. โ€œQianqian told me that she herself had been a migrant worker in Beijing and had to bear everything on her own, โ€ Gao Xiaoxian said โ€œLater she even asked me if we would film in Harbinโ€. Sun Qian was especially happy to learn that the series would be filmed in both Beijing and Harbin. She herself has a cheerful and genuine personality, which is highly consistent with the characterโ€™s background "On the day of the costume fitting, Jing Boran and Sun Qianyi changed clothes in turn, probably dozens of outfits. We watched them go in and out of the fitting room and show them off. It really felt like we were watching an idol drama." Jiang Jizheng, the director also highly approves of Sun Qian, saying, "Sun Qian has a cool appearance, but her eyes have a kind of tenacity that Shang Zhitao needs." credit. ๅจฑ็†

I watched so you did not have to and here is the breakdown!!!! Nearly 2 hours. Plenty of nostalgia. Plenty of vibes. Lots of feelings. But when the net was wide open for actual clarification? Dead air. Total time Chris Albert spoke 1,501 seconds Which is 25 min and 1 sec. So on an almost 2 hour show, he spoke for about 25 minutes total. Roughly 21% of the entire show The remaining time was largely filled by the hosts themselves frequently cutting him off, reframing questions, finishing answers for him, or moving the conversation along before he ever had to sit in discomfort or explain anything fully. 0 minutes of that time addressed the major unresolved timeline and movement issues Oddly missing from this fact-based discussion No explanation for how Colin got home 20 min AFTER Chris that night, despite a four-minute head start No explanation for why Chrisโ€™s wife that went to 34 Fairview with donuts for brian Jr. pulled behind a car that was not there only an hour earlier with no explanation then, turned around, came back to get him, returned again, stayed 30 min, then left, all on the morning John was found. No mention of parents allegedly coordinating to quietly clean up a house-destroying party involving minors in which his son was one No discussion of repeated allegations of Colin being removed from bars for underage drinking. We were told this channel is about facts, not opinion. So we treated it like a data exercise. We timed everything Chris talked about, so you didnโ€™t have to. Hereโ€™s how nearly two hours were spent 2 min saying they tried to โ€œlet the court system play out,โ€ while explaining his New Yearโ€™s Day Twitter Space tour and condemning Sean McCabeโ€™s comments 37 sec on moving to Canton in 1974 35 sec explaining itโ€™s normal to work in the town you grew up in (we agree) 35 sec on Canton no longer being blue-collar and now very expensive 44 sec reminiscing about red paint stains in his childhood garage was misrepresented by the defense 1 min on town politics 15 sec explaining what a Select Board is 50 sec on handling public comment and being a โ€œFirst Amendment guyโ€ฆ to a degreeโ€ 38 sec announcing heโ€™s not running again 25 sec on how he keeps his cool during public comment 15 sec on pineapple pizza 52 sec explaining Colin was 17 when John died and canโ€™t play college football with his cousin 45 sec expressing loss for how his family has been treated 10 sec referencing a blogger saying โ€œhorrible thingsโ€ about Colin 26 sec blaming the media for selling and sensationalizing a story 20 sec saying heโ€™s mind-boggled 48 sec explaining why the term โ€œMcAlbertsโ€ is dehumanizing 28 sec criticizing Yannettiโ€™s performance was upsetting to him while stating John was his friend 42 sec explaining the fence-straddling photo was a joke 1:50 on โ€œNebbercrackerโ€ and a childhood yard incident 10 sec about his wife bringing donuts to a nephew for his birthday was not weird 32 sec blaming Karen for making his family look like villains 1 min on selling his house and convincing his brother to sell 24 sec saying Nebbercracker was the best part of the trial 1:12 on knowing Michael Proctor but not really knowing him 10 sec saying he was never alone with Proctor 11 sec correcting the โ€œpin it on the girlโ€ claim (which we agree with) 1 min praising Jillian Daniels as a great family supporter and defender 1 min explaining early lack of support made him sad 15 sec thanking the hosts 31 sec discussing starting a โ€œDefend the Truthโ€ media page 30 sec saying both sides were horrible and doxxed people 24 sec on feeling isolated at first 33 sec minimizing the Proctor gift as โ€œjust gratitude for solving a murder in one dayโ€ 28 sec saying heโ€™s still friends with the Oโ€™Keefes and they eat at his pizza shop 38 sec saying Mr. Oโ€™Keefe sits with him for long periods of time 43 sec lamenting being made into villains 30 sec saying the case took years off his parentsโ€™ lives 35 sec thanking supporters and saying โ€œthe truth is on our sideโ€

Beware of Collins: How a "Friend" Scammed Me and 9 Others I am writing this to warn everyone in the Web3, Monad, Solana, and Nigerianad communities. There is a person among us named Collins (known on X as Collins) who acts like a kind, active community member, but he is actually a professional scammer. He has stolen over $1,500 from me and has done the same to at least 9 other people. Collins used a very clever strategy to steal our money. He started by being very active in our local Nigerian Telegram groups. He called himself a "Solana Maxi" and always posted screenshots of big wins making people think he was making $5,000 or $7,000 from trading. We didn't know it was all a "format" just to get our attention. I did not trust him at first. However, we started organizing Lagos State meetups. When I met him in person, he was always smiling and happy. He acted like a brother. Seeing his face in real life made me lower my guard. If we had stayed just "online friends," I would never have sent him even $1, but because of those physical meetings, I thought he was real. His scam started when he told me about a "special developer" launching a token. He claimed he had an insider connection and that we could make 5x or 10x our money. He asked me to contribute $2,000. I told him I didn't have it. A few days later, he came back and begged me not to miss the "update." I decided to try with $1,000. To make me trust him completely, he played a long game. When I asked for a refund a week later because I had an emergency, he sent the $1,000 back immediately. This was his biggest trick. It made me believe he was 100% honest. Soon after, he showed me more fake wins on X and told me another project was going live on December 22nd. Because he returned my money the first time, I trusted him and sent the $1,000 back to him. When the date came, he claimed the "dev postponed the listing." While I was waiting for that money, he came with another "emergency" project, asking for another $1,000. I told him I only had $500 left my last card. He took that too. Then the excuses started. He claimed he went to the village to see his parents and that the network was bad. He said he couldn't access his Bybit account because he left his SIM card behind. He even begged me for another $100 in SOL just to help him out while he was "stuck." Because I thought my friend was in trouble, I sent it, bringing the total to $1,600. Every time I asked for my money, he told me "don't worry" and promised to pay once he left the village. But two days ago, the truth came out. I checked X and found out he has been doing this to everyone. He uses his friendly face and community status to prey on people. He is not a trader; he is a thief whose goal is to see the end of his friends' hard-earned money. Please, do not deal with Collins or his sister Trader Nenyenwa ๐Ÿ“Š๐Ÿ“ˆ๐Ÿ’Ž. He is a wolf in sheepโ€™s clothing. He will smile with you today and empty your wallet tomorrow. Don't let his "kindness" fool you like it fooled me. Iโ€™ve never shared the full inside baseball on the inside fastball that broke my jaw April 5, 2008 at Ole Miss, we were facing projected 1st rounder and future Big Leaguer, Lance Lynn Before it became widespread, Lance had success pitching towards the top of the zone with a fastball that appeared to rise He got me out my first at bat on a high fastball that I should have laid off So my 2nd at bat I told myself to see the ball down in the zone My eyes jumped from his release point to the area I was trying to see the ball down to. I never ended up seeing the pitch until .01 before it hit me If youโ€™ve ever gotten hit in the face, you donโ€™t know what happened at first. So it took me about half a second to realize what happened When I did, I fully expected to spit teeth out and when I leaned over to spit and saw that only blood came out, I assumed I was fine Then I heard the Ole Miss head coach yell โ€œit hit his bat,โ€ because the cracking of my jaw sounded like a foul ball off a mental bat I turned around and yelled โ€œshut the fuck upโ€ at their dugout and proceeded on to first base My trainer came up to me and his first words were โ€œoh fuck,โ€ Knowing that was poor bedside manner, and that I was probably very fucked up, I joked โ€œyouโ€™re not supposed to say that,โ€ At that point I knew I was coming out of the game but I was so full of adrenaline that it didnโ€™t hurt and wouldnโ€™t begin to hurt for a couple hours Both the pitcher and coach felt so bad after it happened that both came to apologize to me at the end of the inning while I was beside their dugout being tended to by my trainer and their doctor I actually had to walk to the parking lot through the stadium seats and all the fans looked at me in horror as I had a white bloody rag hanging off my face. It was surreal watching their reactions to my blood We drove over to an Oxford medical center that was clearly not the best location for me to be in, so my coachโ€™s wife drive me up to Nashville to get surgery that night We got swept that weekend and I got my jaw wired shut for the first of 6 weeks I stupidly tried to come back and play the following week. My coaches let me as I was medically cleared to hit with a face mask, but the rest of my season I was a different hitter I was hitting .400 at the time of the fracture, 2nd in the SEC, with 2 months left in the season I finished the year hitting .312. Meaning I flipped from one of the best hitters in the conference to one of the worst before and after the incident Despite finishing my Vandy career 7th on their all time hit list, this play is what I hear about the most when I return Iโ€™ve been lucky that I havenโ€™t had much issues with my jaw thus far post incident, although I did find out that 2 of the nerves of the impacted teeth are dead, and I will likely need to get one of those teeth extracted at some point When they showed me the X Ray it was a clear break. A scary image that could have been WAY worse if it were 3 inches higher, as I likely would not be able to see out of my left eye (and wouldnโ€™t be as handsome as I am) Anyway, to have interesting ideas you must have interesting experiences and this was certainly one

๐Ÿšจ WARNING: SOMETHING TERRIBLE WILL HAPPEN TOMORROW!! Iran has just violated the ceasefire and launched a new attack on oil tankers. The U.S. military is now preparing 1000 missiles to strike Iran in response. It's going to be an absolute BLOODBATH when markets open tomorrow: The U.S. has given Iran 24 hours to: 1โƒฃ Stop attacking commercial shipping 2โƒฃ Keep the Strait of Hormuz open 3โƒฃ Allow vessels to pass without tolls 4โƒฃ Guarantee safe passage through the region Now connect the dots. โ†’ Tankers were attacked. โ†’ The U.S. carried out two rounds of strikes. โ†’ Iran retaliated against U.S. and Gulf targets. โ†’ Trump declared the ceasefire OVER. โ†’ 24-hour ultimatum was set. But geopolitics is only part of the story. Fed rate cuts are off the table. Interest rates will remain higher for longer. China and Japan are dumping U.S. Treasury holdings. Japan is actively supporting the yen. Bond market volatility is accelerating. Funds are reducing equity exposure. The AI-driven rally is losing momentum. Liquidity is tightening across global markets. This is NOT de-escalation. This is geopolitical risk, tightening liquidity, and weakening risk appetite colliding at the same time. Iran now has two choices: 1โƒฃ Accept the U.S. demands 2โƒฃ Face a much larger wave of strikes Markets are not fully pricing in what comes next. When markets open on Monday, this will not be "just another dip." Stocks, metals, Bitcoin, and crypto will all come under serious pressure. Reminder: I've called every major stock market dump since 2021 and the $126K Bitcoin top in 2025. The next call will be posted here first. Follow and turn notifications on. If you still haven't followed me, you'll regret it.

"This was filmed last Thursday at Riverside Veterinary Clinic in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The officer is Sergeant Alan Briggs. He's 44 years old. Twelve-year veteran of the Colorado Springs Police Department. The dog is Bruno, a nine-year-old German Shepherd. They were partners for eight years. Bruno joined the force at fourteen months old. Trained in narcotics detection and patrol support. He and Alan were paired in the spring of Alan's sixth year on the force. From that first week, Alan said Bruno worked like he'd been waiting his whole life to do exactly that job. Eight years. Hundreds of calls. Bruno never missed a shift. Earlier this year, Bruno began slowing down significantly. A serious illness had progressed through his system over several months despite treatment. By October, Bruno had stopped eating consistently. Stopped lifting his head fully when Alan came into the room. The veterinary team sat with Alan two weeks ago and walked him through what was coming. Alan requested that Bruno's final day be spent at home first. They drove to their favorite trail in the morning. Bruno walked as far as he could. Alan carried him the rest of the way. At the clinic that afternoon, Alan sat down on the floor rather than placing Bruno on the examination table. He said he didn't want Bruno's last position to be somewhere unfamiliar and cold. He held Bruno in his arms on the floor, back against the wall. The vet, Dr. Melissa Horan, prepared the procedure. She told us she's been practicing for nineteen years. She has learned to give families as long as they need. Alan leaned down and pressed his face against Bruno's head. He spoke to him quietly. Told him he had been the best partner anyone could ask for. Told him he didn't have to hold on anymore. Bruno lifted both front paws. Slowly. The way a person reaches up when they want to be held. He wrapped them around Alan's shoulders and pulled himself closer. Alan held on. Dr. Horan told us she set down what she was holding and waited. She said: "I've been in this room for a lot of final moments. What Bruno did in that moment was one of the most deliberate things I've ever seen an animal do.

โ€ก Brant โ€“ Fast, Expensive, and Worrying In a recent 2yo MSW race at Santa Anita, Brant, a $3m OBS March sales purchase, made a winning debut for his high-profile connections. Sent off at odds of 4/5, he tracked the pace before taking command on the turn, and drew off to win by 5 1/4 lengths. He recorded a very fast raw time, and a 101 Beyer figure. His high auction price was due largely to his having breezed an eighth of a mile in :09 3/5 at OBS. In the wake of the bidding, Amr Zedan, who purchased the colt on the recommendation of his trainer, Bob Baffert, and bloodstock agent Donato Lanni, was quoted in TDN as saying: "These horses are difficult to come by. He ticked all the boxes. He was a very precocious Gun Runner with a great pedigree. And more importantly, if you have someone like Mr. [Bob] Baffert in your corner, that gives you the courage and the guts to just go after quality. And you'll know they are in the best hands to turn them into champions. This one is for the team: Donato and obviously Bob and his ability to turn them into champions. So if you have the great team, the great training, the rest is easy. Was he pricey? Yes. But quality dictates price. So I never hesitated.โ€ The hyperbole, and boilerplate optimism, are understandable, as even owners with very deep pockets prefer not to dwell on their inevitably long lists of expensive failures. But Zedan and their team have also enjoyed a number of high-profile successes, including Taiba, another Gun Runner colt, which won the Santa Anita Derby and the Malibu, both Grade I, before being retired to stud. Lanni, who has signed for at least some of Zedan's other good horses, was quoted as saying: "This is what the boss [Baffert] wanted and what Amr wanted. Gun Runner is a tremendous stallion and he worked really good and galloped out good. He did everything you want one to do.โ€ Again, boilerplate, and if one were to take the reactions of the owner and agent at face value, it would be easy to arrive at the conclusion that the horse had no faults. But that would be naรฏve. So, let's first take a look at Brant's pedigree. Gun Runner is a "top" sire, and well-capable of getting high-class runners. It's a bit too early to fully judge him as a source of durability, but excluding his current crop of 2yos, his runners are only averaging 10 career starts. That number will rise, but likely not enough to reach, let alone exceed the contemporary industry average of ~15. In other words, though he himself raced 19 times, and won his swan song (the Pegasus World Cup) at five, there is no evidence to suggest that he is likely to eventually prove to be a particular source of durability. Brant's dam, Tynan, raced 13 times, and he is her first registered foal. His second dam, Pappascat, has produced at least five foals to have raced, and while only one has reached 20 starts, four of the five raced at least 12 times, which by today's degraded standards, isn't so bad. The fact that the coat color inherited by Brant, and his dam, can be traced to a notably unsound influence, Unbridled's Song, may or may not be meaningful. But I wouldn't ignore it as a potentially worrying connection. Brant's dam-sire, Liamโ€™s Map, was lightly raced himself, and both his sire (US) and dam have poor records in terms of durability. As a sire, he has thus far produced numbers similar to Gun Runner. So while Brant's first two dams promise more than many that I have come across in similar assessments, and his sire displayed durability on the track, his overall pedigree suggests average durability at best. And what about the word that Mr. Zedan used twice in the above quote โ€“ "quality"? Well, Curlin is a quality sire, but in terms of bottom-line production, it leaves a lot to be desired. That's not to say that there are no good runners to be found, in fact the closely related Pappacap, under Brant's second-dam, was a Gr. III winner, and twice Grade I placed. However, through Brant's first six dams at least, I believe there to be just a single Grade I winner, Al Qasr, a Champion stayer in Peru, which appears under his fourth-dam. That is not, by any reasonable definition, a strong bottom-line, although it is fair to say that Brant's first dam is unproven. *** What might be learned from Brant's debut race? Everyone can see that he ran fast, and was much the best of that field, but I would say that there were some nuanced aspects of his performance that were both interesting, and worrying. Those nuances relate to his action, as viewed both through the pan shot, and head-on. Watching the basic (pan) view, Brant appears to display some "knee action". It isn't extreme, but also isn't the type of action that ideally suits dirt runners, and I wouldn't say that the colt appears totally comfortable. Here's a brief, related post on knee action, for reference: Then, we have the (embedded) head-on view, in which Brant displays seriously distorted action in his near-fore (left front leg; right when viewed head-on). It's a fairly extreme example of what is called "winging", and for a number of reasons, does not bode well for durability. Such action is never desirable, and is typically related to certain foreleg conformation flaws, which may include an offset knee, and/or toeing in or out, etc. Note also that under typical American racing conditions (i.e. tightly turning, left-handed tracks), the left front leg is subjected to the greatest torque, which amplifies the potential for injury. It should go without saying that there are occasional anomalies, horses with poor action that remain sound despite such flaws. But they are the exceptions, and it is not uncommon to find abbreviated careers associated with such action. For further reference, here is a link to a closely related post that I wrote after a filly named Amor Fati broke her maiden in eye-catching style in February of 2024. She has made just one further start, and hasn't recorded a work over the past 15 months. What's interesting about Brant is that there are two separate issues relating to his action, and that the some obvious mitigating steps that could have been, or should be taken, in efforts to keep him sound, were not, and are unlikely to ever be taken. First, with regard to his knee action, keep in mind that it is a characteristic that is more typically associated with turf horses. And guess what? Brant's dam was a turf horse. His second-dam was also at her best on turf, and was Gr. II placed on that surface. Also, in some respects, he physically resembles that female line more than his sire. Of course no one who spends millions on a horse that breezed exceptionally fast at a 2yo sale would be thinking "turf", given that the commercial market, and stakes schedules greatly favor dirt runners. But at the same time, it would be a mistake to assume that a fast breeze at OBS necessarily indicates that a given horse will be best suited to dirt. I say that partly because the OBS track features an all-weather surface called "Safetrack", which is far from being identical to dirt racing surfaces. While countless horses have gone through those sales and excelled on dirt, it should never been taken for granted that it will be a preference. And to further flesh out the point, take a look at Brant's breeze video through this link (his pedigree page can also be seen): Despite being rushed to cover a furlong much faster than he ever will again, I would say that he looks smoother, and displays slightly less knee action than in his recent debut race. Why? Could it be, perhaps, because he would prove more comfortable on turf and/or synthetic tracks, than dirt surfaces? Given how he ran first out, this is purely an academic point, as there is virtually no chance that his connections would consider switching surfaces, unless his form on dirt were to deteriorate badly. The second, more important point, relates to Brant's distorted action. I can't find a head-on conformation photo of the colt, but would be very surprised if he does not display flaws in his near-fore. Even in the very unlikely event that the leg were to appear correct, such distorted action would have been on display at the sale, as well as in pre-training at Eddie Woods' farm. And it defies belief that experienced horsemen who were prepared to purchase an extremely expensive horse for an important client would not have covered that base. Which in turn begs two important questions. First, why recommend the purchase of a very expensive horse, no matter how fast, that has yet to race, and displays such distorted action? Secondly, why choose to give such a horse to a trainer whose style and history suggest that injury risk would likely be amplified, rather than mitigated? The answers to those questions help to illuminate why the breed-to-sell paradigm is so insidious. As long as breeders and stud farms are willing to overpay for stallion prospects, and turn blind eyes to conformation defects, distorted action, lack of durability, and modest female families, the connections of horses like Brant need only hope that they hold together long enough to win one or two big races, enabling them cash in. These are the number of career starts made by Zedan's previous best (and expensive) male runners: 9 Arabian Lion 6 Arabian Knight 9 Muth 10 Medina Spirit 11 Hejazi And as long as the AGSC (American Graded Stakes Committee) continues to enable the paradigm through its dishonest KY Derby "prep" Grade I designations, the ultimately damaging feedback loop will likely continue. The answer to the second question is closely entwined, and should be obvious. For all of his faults as a trainer, Baffert has long produced results in stakes races that lead to valuable stud careers, so owners who wish to play the breed-to-sell game consider him to be a logical choice. Of course Baffert and Zedan are hardly alone in supporting the dubious paradigm. But that a horse like Brant could bring millions at a sale, and be given to a trainer who trains very hard, and has compiled a very poor safety record, underscores the extreme degree to which the value of durability has been marginalized by the industry. One final note, and it's a genuine qualification that I always make when producing this type of post, I hope that Brant will enjoy a long, injury-free career. But if I were a betting man...

Ronan Farrow just did to Sam Altman what he did to Harvey Weinstein... The New Yorker dropped an 18-month investigation this morning based on 100+ interviews and a stack of internal documents that were never supposed to leave OpenAI. Ilya's secret memos, Dario Amodei's private journal. Board communications, the full picture of who Sam Altman is when the cameras are off. And the pattern starts way before OpenAI. At his first startup Loopt, senior employees went to the board and asked them to fire Sam as CEO. This happened twice, over concerns about leadership and transparency. He left, joined Y Combinator, and the same thing played out. Partners complained to Paul Graham about Sam's behavior. Graham's private take to colleagues: Sam had been lying to us all the time. Nobody removed him, he kept getting promoted. Eventually he landed the CEO seat at what is now the most consequential AI company in the world. Inside OpenAI, Ilya Sutskever spent months compiling evidence: 70 pages of Slack messages, HR documents, and photos taken on personal phones because employees knew company devices were being monitored. He sent everything to the board as disappearing messages so Sam couldn't make it go away. The very first line of his memo lists Sam's core pattern, and the first word on that list is: Lying Dario Amodei saw the same thing and handled it differently. He kept a private journal for years, over 200 pages, titled "My Experience with OpenAI" with a subheading that said "Private: Do Not Share" After all those pages, his conclusion was one sentence: the problem with OpenAI is Sam himself. He eventually left and built Anthropic. 2 of the smartest people in AI independently reached the same verdict. Neither could stop what was happening. The superalignment team, the group responsible for making sure AI doesn't go off the rails, was promised 20% of OpenAI's compute. 4 people who worked on or with the team told The New Yorker the real number was 1-2%, running on the oldest cluster with the worst hardware. The team got dissolved before finishing its work. Safety was a talking point, not a priority. Sam told the board that a safety panel had approved controversial features in GPT-4. When board member Helen Toner asked for the documentation, it turned out the most sensitive features had never been approved at all. Separately, Microsoft released an early version of ChatGPT in India without completing a required safety review and Sam never mentioned it to the board. When the board finally fired him in November 2023, he texted Satya Nadella directly with his own replacement board lineup. Thrive Capital put its planned $86B investment on hold and signaled it would only close if Sam came back, giving every OpenAI employee a financial reason to support his return. The 2 board members selected to run the "independent investigation" into Sam's conduct were chosen after close conversations with Sam himself. He engineered his own reinstatement and nobody blinked. The New Yorker quotes a board member describing Sam as having two traits you almost never see in the same person: a desperate need to be liked in every interaction, and a near-complete indifference to the consequences of deceiving someone. Multiple sources used the word "sociopathic" without being prompted and without talking to each other. The article also drops a line that might be the best summary of the whole thing. They compare Sam to Steve Jobs and his famous "reality distortion field" then point out that even Jobs never told his customers that if they didn't buy his MP3 player, everyone they loved would die. Sam wrapped that exact pitch in the language of AI safety and rode it to a potential $1T IPO. That IPO is being prepared right now, while OpenAI signs government contracts spanning immigration enforcement, domestic surveillance and autonomous weapons deployed in active war zones. Meanwhile, The Information reports that his own CFO told colleagues she doesn't believe the company is ready to go public in 2026. Farrow is answering questions on Hacker News right now. The full piece is open access. Read it before Sam figures out how to make this disappear too

๐ŸšจLionel Scaloni on the strange way Argentina played against Spain: โ€ข Reporter: Lionel, welcome home, and congratulations on reaching another World Cup final. But many fans were surprised by Argentinaโ€™s performance against Spain, it didnโ€™t look like the team weโ€™d seen throughout the tournament. What happened? ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธLionel Scaloni: โ€œFirst, congratulations to Spain. They deserved to be world champions and handled the final better than we did. I understand why people have questions. From the outside, a lot looked unusual. But football has stories the public never sees. Some things happen inside a dressing room, and out of respect for everyone involved, they should stay there.โ€ โ€ข Reporter: Before kick-off, Messi told the team, โ€˜Letโ€™s forget about everything. Letโ€™s just play.โ€™ There was no applause, and players like Enzo Fernรกndez and Lisandro Martรญnez looked emotional. It felt very different. ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธScaloni: โ€œEvery dressing room has emotional moments before a final. Cameras capture seconds, not the full picture. I wonโ€™t discuss private conversations, but everyone who stepped onto that pitch gave everything for Argentina.โ€ โ€ข Reporter: Fans also noticed Messi during the warm-up, with some saying he looked distracted and even missed shots deliberately. Was something wrong? ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธScaloni: โ€œPeople can interpret body language however they want. Leo has his own routine after thousands of matches. Itโ€™s unfair to judge his mindset from a few minutes of footage.โ€ โ€ข Reporter: Lautaro Martรญnez barely seemed involved despite being important throughout the tournament. Enzo Fernรกndez and Leandro Paredes also played with an aggression that seemed out of character. Was something affecting the squad mentally? ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธScaloni: โ€œFinals change games. Spain controlled long periods, and that affects every player. Sometimes what looks strange is simply the result of facing a great opponent.โ€ โ€ข Reporter: After losing Cristian Romero and Lisandro Martรญnez to injury, Argentina became much more defensive. Many fans felt that invited Spain onto you. ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธScaloni: โ€œLosing two key defenders in a World Cup final forces difficult decisions. Looking back, everyone can question them, including me but every change was made to help the team.โ€ โ€ข Reporter: Argentina also struggled to keep the ball, Messi barely saw possession, and Spain kept winning it back. It didnโ€™t resemble your tournament performances. ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธScaloni: โ€œSpain deserve huge credit because they forced mistakes no other team could. But we were also below our usual level. Whether it was nerves, fatigue, or simply an off night, we never found our rhythm.โ€ โ€ข Reporter: Finally, Messi missed out on the Golden Ball, with Rodri winning it instead. Many Argentina fans believe Messi deserved it. What do you think? ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธScaloni: โ€œIndividual awards will always divide opinions. For me, Leo had an extraordinary tournament and led this team brilliantly. A trophy doesnโ€™t define what he achieved. As for everything else thatโ€™s being saidโ€ฆ football has a way of revealing the truth over time. There are things I know, there are things I prefer to keep private, and there are things that people will continue to speculate about. My job isnโ€™t to fuel speculation. Maybe one day certain stories will be understood more clearly, but today isnโ€™t that day.โ€
