On this day 24 years ago, Coleman Coliseum witnessed one of the most unforgettable finishes in Alabama Men’s Basketball history that propelled the Crimson Tide to its first SEC regular-season championship in 15 years. With everything on the line and an SEC title within reach, Antoine Pettway delivered a moment that still echoes through Tuscaloosa — a glass-kissing layup that lifted Alabama past Florida, 65-64, on Feb. 23, 2002. Alabama had not won a SEC regular-season title since 1987, but on this memorable day inside Coleman Coliseum, destiny hung in the balance. It was fitting that head coach Mark Gottfried — himself a key contributor on the 1987 SEC championship squad — stood on the sideline. But the final chapter belonged to Antoine Pettway. After Florida’s James White missed a crucial free throw with 14 seconds left, Mo Williams chased the rebound into the corner, raced across midcourt and found Earnest Shelton. With the clock ticking under five seconds, Shelton drove the lane, drew the defense — and at the last instant spotted Pettway cutting free toward the rim. The pass was perfect. The timing, impeccable. Pettway softly laid it off the glass — and the net snapped as time stood still. Coleman erupted and the Mark’s Madness section spilled onto the court. Four days later, the Crimson Tide finished the job at Auburn to lock up the outright regular-season title, then powered its way to the SEC Tournament final. Alex Golesh said this in his first press conference as new head football coach at Auburn: " What you're gonna get from me, from our staff, and as we get rolling, our players is the hardest working, toughest grittiest program in the entire country. We're gonna work day in, day out. We're gonna find wins in every single margin we could find. We're gonna build a process driven program, a process driven program where we wake up and we worry about winning every single aspect of our lives every single day. I truly believe that if you buy into a process. A way of doing things day in, day out from the moment you wake up. To how you come in. To how you attack your relationships in a building. To how you attack the weight room, sports, medicine, nutrition, the film room, the teaching, and then certainly the work on the field. If you buy into eating right, sleeping right, hydrating right. Outworking people in the things that nobody else sees. The end result will happen a lot of the time. You don't control the end result. You control your daily habits, you control your daily process. And if you keep pouring into that day in, day out, day in, day out, us as a staff, the student athletes, everybody that touches our guys, at whatever point, the process will pay you back. We're also gonna have a hell of a lot of fun doing it. We're gonna be explosive on offense. We're gonna play really fast. We're gonna challenge teams in every imaginable way. We're gonna run the fricking ball. People around here like running the football, and I can respect it.

BEYOND NITRO Excerpt Keith Mitchell on Bash at the Beach '96 On the night of Hulk Hogan’s seminal heel turn, Keith Mitchell - the legendary producer whose tenure in the business, rather famously, goes back to the era of World Class Championship Wrestling - enjoyed being one of the few WCW employees to know what was coming. “From a production point of view,” he remembers, “we held a pretty tight lid on the information. There weren’t a whole lot of people ‘in the loop’ on the turn, and I don’t believe I knew until ‘day of' on that one. “Me and a couple of other people may have had an indication about the potential, but as far as a, ‘Yeah, this is what’s going on...,’ I recall that being ‘day of’. “...but it was very exciting.
