Miami, SMU and BYU give the Irish 3 top 20 games (Miami could be #1). If one other team on the schedule makes even a moderate jump it will be a top 25 sos. USC would not be a top three difficulty game this season (nor has it been for much of the past decade).

ND went 2-2 vs ranked teams in 2025 and its best win was against USC. Its finals Strength of Schedule was 47. In 2026 the Irish play nearly all the same teams except Texas A&M, USC and Pitt, 3 of 4 ranked teams. They will only play 2 ranked teams, Miami and BYU (maybe). USC last won a national championship in 2004. Before that it was 2003. ND last won a National Championship in 1988. Before that it was 1977. An Irish player hasn’t won a Heisman Trophy since 1977. USC players have won 5 since then, and 3 before that. Case closed.

So, that clearly, that’s why I think the end-of-history moment was a disastrous moment for the West because they put the West to sleep at precisely the moment when the rest was waking up.
