Robert J. O'Neill explains what it was like to kill Osama Bin Laden. On May 2, 2011, Osama bin Laden was shot and killed at his compound in Pakistani by United States Navy SEALs from SEAL Team Six. The raid lasted 40 minutes, and bin Laden was killed shortly before 1:00 a.m. local time. Three other men, including one of bin Laden's sons, and a woman in the compound were also killed. After the raid, U.S. forces returned to Afghanistan with bin Laden's body for identification. They then flew over 850 miles to the Arabian Sea, where he was buried in accordance with Islamic tradition.

People believe this is Aaron Carson Vaughn, a former Navy SEAL who served with SEAL Team 6 and was presumed killed in action on August 6, 2011, during a mission in Afghanistan when a CH-47 Chinook helicopter, call sign Extortion 17, was shot down by insurgents, resulting in the deaths of 30 U.S. service members, including 15 members of SEAL Team 6. Today marks 25 years since the day that changed the world forever. 9/11. I’m not one for long messages on here but this one means something. Spent today with Robert J. O'Neill and it hit me deeply. I remember watching those towers fall. The shock. The anger. The heartbreak. The feeling that the world had changed forever. Then years later hearing that SEAL Team 6 had taken down Osama bin Laden. Justice had finally come. Sitting with Rob today, hearing about the brothers, the missions, the things these men saw and carried home with them, you realise people only ever see the warrior. They don’t see the pain. They don’t see the demons. They don’t see what a man carries home long after the mission is over. That is sacrifice. Today is for every innocent soul lost, every family changed forever, every first responder who ran toward danger, and every man and woman who answered the call after. 25 years later, the world still remembers.
