Qullamaggie on Situational Awareness โ€œI guess it was an okay setup, but it failed in a big way. That was near the peak of the SPAC market. You can see why it failed, because NASDAQ pulled back. Nasdaq had a big run, multi-month run. You wanna buy breakouts when the market comes out of a multi-month sideways consolidation or a multi-month sell-off. Here, good time to buy breakouts. Here, not so much. And that's why it's failed. The setup itself was okay, but once the market is straight up for multiple months, you gotta be careful buying breakouts. The setups themselves were okay. But the market started pulling back mid-February and everything failed. When is the best time to buy breakouts? Chat, come on. Come on, chat. When is the best time to buy breakouts? What do we want to see in the moving averages? After correction? Yeah, but the moving averages. When the 10-day is above the 20-day, yeah, more. Rising 10-day, 20-day. We want to see the 10-day above the 20-day, and both the 10-day and 20-day need to be rising. Or one of them can be sideways, but at least one of them needs to be rising. That's when you have good conditions, generally, for breakouts. In late February, the 10-day had started sloping down, the 20-day was sideways. So that was a warning sign. That you shouldn't buy breakouts. NIO, big move, pulled back to the 10-day, started building a flag and it went straight up. Why did it go straight up? Well, because the market had just come out of a multi-month correction. And that was the start of a multi-month move. And NIO had shown strength all the way. That's a good time to buy breakouts, when the market comes out of a multi-month sideways or multi-month correction. Not when the market has already run for two, three months straight up, and it's starting to lose momentum. Not a good time to buy breakouts.โ€

How have the fundamentals of building large, distributed software systems changed the last decade? A conversation with Martin Kleppmann (author of Designing Data-Intensive Applications) - given that the second, updated edition of the book was just released. Timestamps: 00:00 Early career 05:46 Building Rapportive 10:47 Working at LinkedIn 14:09 Writing Designing Data-Intensive Applications 23:00 Reliability, scalability, and repeatability 26:24 DDIA: the second edition 30:50 Tradeoffs of using cloud services 39:02 How the cloud changed scaling 42:53 The trouble with distributed systems 49:02 Ethics for software engineers 52:45 Formal verification 1:00:12 Academia vs. industry 1:03:50 Local-first software 1:09:50 Computer science education 1:18:32 Martinโ€™s current research and advice Brought to you by: โ€ข Statsig โ€“ โ  The unified platform for flags, analytics, experiments, and more. โ€ข Sonar โ€“ The makers of SonarQube, the industry standard for code verification and automated code review. Check out Sonar's new architecture management capabilities that ensure both humans and AI agents respect your systemโ€™s blueprint. โ€ข WorkOS โ€“ Ship enterprise features โ€“ SSO, directory sync, RBAC, audit logs โ€“ in days, not months. Three things worth considering, as discussed with Martin, in this episode: 1. Multi-region and multi-cloud are risk/cost trade-offs, not best practices. Martin does not believe that there is a โ€œbest practiceโ€ in deciding whether to go multi-region or multi-cloud. This decision is a tradeoff between risk and costs. Itโ€™s a business decision to be made. Designing Data-Intensive Applications gives engineers the vocabulary to articulate the tradeoffs, not to dictate answers. 2. Replication for fault tolerance is more relevant for most engineers these days than sharding. Though the book has a full chapter on sharding, Martin said that the cloud has reduced the need for manual sharding for the majority of teams. This is also because machines are increasingly bigger, and more workloads fit on a single machine. Sharding across machines is increasingly a specialist concern; replication for fault tolerance, however, is still relevant at every scale. 3. Knowing system internals as a superpower for application developers. Martin maintains that Designing Data-Intensive Applications is not a book for people who build databases or even infrastructure, but itโ€™s helpful for application developers to develop an intuition for making good design decisions and debugging performance issues we will eventually encounter.

Using NovaRedโ€™s latest AI press release from April 17, 2026, the core message is that the company is trying to become more than a junior copper explorer. It says NovaRed filed a provisional U.S. patent for an โ€œArtificial Intelligence-Driven Mineral Exploration Platformโ€ that would combine multi-source geological data integration, probabilistic scoring, and blockchain-based document verification to improve the speed, precision, and transparency of exploration decisions. The release also says NovaRed is developing these capabilities with PRAIโ€™s AI team and that the Wilmac copper-gold project covers 11,504 hectares in British Columbia, near Hudbayโ€™s Copper Mountain Mine. Hereโ€™s the interesting strategic angle. If NovaRed is not just building an internal exploration tool, but eventually shaping a broader land-intelligence platform, then the addressable market could become much bigger than one mining project. Using your assumption of 77 million U.S. landowners, if just 3% of them paid $20, that would equal 2.31 million users and about $46.2 million in revenue. That is before upsells, subscriptions, enterprise packages, mineral-rights screening, broker tools, or premium reports. That math is simple, but powerful. The bull case is that NovaRedโ€™s April 17 release introduces a narrative shift: from โ€œsmall explorerโ€ to โ€œAI-enabled resource intelligence company.โ€ If the platform can help identify mineral potential faster, verify land-related records more credibly, and package property insights in a consumer-friendly way, it could create a second value layer on top of the copper story. In that model, Wilmac is not only a project asset, but also a live proving ground for technology. The caution is that today this is still an early-stage concept, not proven commercial software. But if NovaRed executes, the market may start valuing it not only as a miner, but as a scalable land-and-mineral intelligence platform. That is where tiny valuation stories can start getting very big. Revenue math on your scenario: 77,000,000 ร— 3% ร— $20 = $46,200,000. Do your own research

๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ช SWEDENโ€™S GLOBAL EYE IS QUIETLY CHANGING THE RULES OF AIRBORNE WARFARE Sweden, a country long associated with precision engineering and understated military design, is now drawing global attention for an aircraft that is rewriting what modern airborne surveillance looks like. At the center of this shift is the Saab GlobalEye, developed by Saab. On the surface, it appears to be just another sleek business jet. In reality, it is one of the most capable multi domain intelligence platforms currently in service. Unlike traditional AWACS aircraft, which rely on size, heavy radar signatures, and constant support, GlobalEye takes a different approach. It blends range, endurance, and precision into a far more efficient and survivable system. Its Erieye ER radar can detect aerial threats at ranges exceeding 450 kilometers, including low flying targets and difficult to track profiles. Beyond the air domain, it extends its reach across sea and land, tracking vessels, monitoring coastlines, and even identifying ground movements in real time. This multi layered awareness allows it to act not just as an early warning system, but as a central node in modern network centric warfare. Endurance is another key advantage. With missions lasting over 11 hours, GlobalEye can maintain persistent surveillance over vast areas without the logistical footprint typically required by larger AWACS fleets. What Sweden has achieved here is not just another surveillance aircraft. It is a smarter concept of control, one that prioritizes efficiency, flexibility, and precision over brute force. In an era where detection and decision speed define the battlefield, GlobalEye reflects a clear philosophy. You do not need to be the biggest to dominate the sky.
