Zero deaths. That is the mission. A dedicated team of forest officers, patrolling staff, loco pilots, drone operators and control centre monitors works round the clock at Tamil Naduโ€™s AI-powered Elephant Control and Command Centre in Madukkarai in Coimbatore to keep elephants safe. In just over two and a half years, the system has facilitated around 9,481 safe elephant crossings ensuring Zero elephant deaths on Railway Tracks, demonstrating how technology, human vigilance and teamwork can come together to protect wildlife. The system has generated more than 7,116 real-time alerts for railway authorities and loco pilots, leading to 3,821 instances where trains were slowed down or stopped to allow elephants to cross safely. Beyond elephants, the system has also detected deer, gaurs and leopards, creating a comprehensive AI-enabled wildlife monitoring network. The Government of Tamil Nadu continues to strengthen the system. AI-powered drones have been deployed for wider landscape surveillance, extending monitoring beyond fixed thermal cameras and providing real-time situational awareness of elephant movements. No system can ever be perfect, and the worry never really goes away. But we must keep learning, improving and doing better. A big shoutout to these unsung heroes whose constant vigilance, dedication and hard work make this possible. #AIMadukkarai #AIForWildlife #Elephants #WildlifeConservation

IGP: Every state should emulate Enugu's Command and Control Centre to fight insecurity โ€ฆHails Gov Mbah's investment in modern security infrastructure The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Tunji Disu, has commended the Governor Peter Mbah Administration for setting up what he described as a state-of-the-art Command and Control Centre for effective surveillance of the state. Disu, who expressed surprise at the sophistication of the security infrastructure, wished every other state could come over to understudy the Command and Control Centre and set up one to boost security of lives and property in every part of the country. The IGP spoke during a tour of the facility on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Centre for DNA Forensics and Criminal Investigation, Enugu, a strategic partnership between the Mbah Administration and the Godfrey Okoye University to promote scientific, evidence-based justice and war against criminality. โ€œI must confess that I am surprised we have this kind of facility here in this state because you know I worked for Lagos. I know we had something like this in Lagos, but the advancement of this present one amazed me. โ€œThis is a control room that has a lot of facilities with the ability to see almost everywhere in this state. There is no place that is left ungoverned from the control room. We can see the forest. We can zoom in - I think over 40 per cent - to be able to see far away. We can zoom in close to 30 kilometers away. That is great security. โ€œI wish every state in Nigeria will come here and emulate what is happening. I have seen AI cameras. I have seen officers dedicated to certain areas of the state watching, seeing what is happening. โ€œI have also seen records of the successes recorded through this control room. One more time, I wish all the states in Nigeria will come around, see what is happening here and emulate it,โ€ Disu said. He equally commended the state's Distress Response Squad initiative, a special police unit with over 150 security vehicles installed with AI-enabled cameras and also linked to the Command and Control Centre. โ€œI moved around. I saw the stateโ€™s DRS and then we put them to test. They did not know I was listening to them. We put them to test. We asked them to move to a certain part of the town and within two, three, four minutes, they were there. It shows their efficiency. โ€œThen I am sure you know I was the former commander of the Rapid Response Force in Lagos too and then I do not want to mention here which is better - whether the DRS here or the Rapid Response Force. But the most important thing is that they have shown efficiency. They have shown capacity and I thank the governor of this state for investing in security of the people of the state,โ€ he stated. Also in the tour was the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN. It is recalled that the Enugu State Command and Control Centre built by the Mbah Administration was formally inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu during his official visit to the state on January 4, 2025.

Steel builds the modern world โ€” and Alberta digs the coal to create it! Steel builds the modern world: bridges, hospitals, railways, even wind turbines. But steel doesnโ€™t just appear out of thin air. It starts with metallurgical coal, and Alberta happens to have some of the best deposits of it anywhere on Earth. So, when activists say Alberta shouldnโ€™t develop itโ€ฆ I have to say something pretty simple. Alberta digs coal, and weโ€™re proud of it If you grew up anywhere near the oil patch in this province, there's a song you know. Itโ€™s four in the morning outside some extended-stay hotel in Grande Prairie or Bonnyville. Thereโ€™s frost on the windshield of a diesel pickup warming up before shift. And blasting out of the speakers? โ€œThe Roughest Neck Around.โ€ That song is practically the anthem of the oil patch. A tribute to the people who built modern Alberta with their hands and their backs. People like my dad, and just about every single man in my family. People who sacrifice being at home to work in forbidding conditions to earn a living, to give us something we all need to live comfortably. The line that always stuck with me is the one where he says the rig hand โ€œbrings the power to the people.โ€ And thatโ€™s exactly what Albertaโ€™s resource workers do. Oil, gas, coal. All of it powers the modern world. So, imagine my surprise when the man who wrote that song โ€” Corb Lund โ€” launched a campaign opposing coal development in Alberta. Look, I want to be clear about something. Iโ€™ve seen Corb Lund in concert many times. Iโ€™m a huge fan. And honestly, if all of my musical tastes had to perfectly align with my political views, my playlist would get pretty small, pretty fast. Most of us donโ€™t listen to music that way. We listen because the songs feel true. Because they tell the story of where we come from, and Corb Lund has always done that for Alberta. Which is why this whole thing actually makes me a little sad. Because the man who wrote the anthem of the oil patch โ€” a song celebrating the grit and sacrifice of the people who power this province โ€” is now repeating some of the same environmentalist talking points that were are used to try to shut down the oil patch itself and the jobs that go along with it. The roughnecks. The welders. The truck drivers, and now the miners. The folks waking up at four in the morning to keep the lights on. I just canโ€™t square that, and I won't abide the lies. Because the truth about coal in Alberta is very different from what people are hearing right now. First, not all coal is the same. The coal being discussed in Albertaโ€™s eastern slopes isnโ€™t coal for power plants โ€” itโ€™s metallurgical coal, essential for producing steel. And steel, at any meaningful industrial scale, cannot be produced without metallurgical coal. Countries around the world understand this. The United States, the European Union, South Africa, and New Zealand have all recognized metallurgical coal as a strategic resource tied directly to infrastructure and national security. Because if you donโ€™t control the materials needed to make steel, you donโ€™t control your industrial future, and Alberta happens to have some of the best undeveloped metallurgical coal deposits in the world. Thatโ€™s an opportunity. But the conversation around coal mining in Alberta has been flooded with misinformation about a lack of oversight and polluted water. A lot of what people picture when they hear โ€œcoal miningโ€ comes from images of mines that operate under completely different environmental rules. But modern mining in Alberta operates under strict regulatory oversight. Projects are monitored by the Alberta Energy Regulator, which enforces environmental standards covering water, land, air quality, and reclamation. Companies are required to post financial security to guarantee that mines are reclaimed when operations end. Cleanup isnโ€™t optional โ€” itโ€™s mandatory. And thereโ€™s another key detail that often gets lost in the debate: not all mining is the same. Some new proposed coal projects in Alberta are underground mines, not large open-pit surface operations. That means a much smaller surface footprint and dramatically less disturbance compared to the old mining methods people still picture. Technology evolves. Regulations evolve, and responsible resource development evolves, too. But beyond all the technical arguments, thereโ€™s something even more important that gets forgotten in this debate: the people. Coal miners, heavy equipment operators, tradespeople, truck drivers. These arenโ€™t villains. They're the heroes. These are the same kinds of workers who built modern Alberta. Theyโ€™re the people who built the schools, the roads, the hospitals, the communities we all live in today. The jobs created by responsible coal development are good, high-paying jobs. Jobs that support families in communities like Grande Cache, Hinton, and the Crowsnest Pass. Jobs that keep small towns alive. The product those workers produce isnโ€™t something obsolete. Metallurgical coal is a resource the world still needs, because the world still needs steel. Letโ€™s be clear about what this campaign is actually about. This isnโ€™t about attacking musicians. I like Corb. And it isnโ€™t about pretending there are no environmental standards in Alberta. We have some of the best in the world. This is about standing up for Alberta workers and Alberta resources. They're also the best in the world, and Albertans should not be ashamed of that. Because the people who love songs like โ€œThe Roughest Neck Aroundโ€ understand something that sometimes gets forgotten in these debates. The men and women working in Albertaโ€™s resource industries donโ€™t just produce energy. They produce the materials that build civilization. The choice here isnโ€™t between the environment and the economy. The real choice is between facts and fear. And around here, we choose facts. If the world still needs the resources we produce โ€” and it does โ€” then Alberta should be proud to provide them, because Alberta digs coal. REPORT by Sheila Gunn Reid:

State-of-the-Art Control Room at Swasthya Bhawan Taking a decisive step toward a transparent and broker-free healthcare system in West Bengal, today a High-Tech Control Room has been inaugurated at the Swasthya Bhawan. This facility will serve as the central hub for monitoring all Government Hospitals across the State in real-time. Our mission is clear: to eliminate the menace of the "Dalal Raj" that has plagued our Hospitals for too long. Through advanced surveillance and analytical monitoring, we will now track unusual activities and patterns within hospital premises. If individuals are found loitering without purpose or cause, they will be promptly identified and dealt with according to the law. To further ensure safety & security of Healthcare Professionals & Patients and to streamline Hospital Operations, we are introducing a new Badge System, so that People can clearly be identified and segregated as per their their purpose in the vicinity. By segregating the crowd, we will easily distinguish those who have no business being on Hospital premises. I have personally visited several Hospitals and witnessed the dedicated service of our Doctors, Nurses and Health Workers. They deserve a safe, secure and professional environment. We are committed to provide that. This is a significant shift toward a safer, technology-driven and patient-centric Healthcare system for the people of West Bengal.

From Satnavari to Samruddhi; Building Smart Villages for Aatmanirbhar Bharat! Inaugurated and unveiled the stone plaque of 'Indiaโ€™s first Smart and Intelligent Village (pilot project) - Satnavari, in Nagpur, today. This initiative reflects the vision of Hon PM Narendra Modi Ji, who has always emphasised that the Nationโ€™s future lies in taking internet, communication and technology to every village. With BharatNet across the country and Mahanet in Maharashtra, this dream began to take shape and today, it has entered a new era. This new model is unique because until now, dependence was largely on foreign technologies. Today, Voice of Indian Communication Technology Enterprises (VoICE) has brought together 24 Indian companies to develop the concept of a Smart and Intelligent Village. This effort not only strengthens technological independence but also aligns perfectly with the Hon Modi Ji's dream of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. Satnavari was chosen for this pilot project because it can host multiple smart interventions. Farmers here are now adopting smart farming with sensors that monitor water quality and drones that bring precision in dispensing fertilizers. Safety in the village is being strengthened through smart surveillance. Schools now have AI-enabled classrooms, Anganwadis are digitised and health facilities are seamlessly connected to major hospitals. These changes will reduce farming costs, raise productivity, conserve resources and ensure that children receive quality education and families have access to modern healthcare within the village itself. This effort goes far beyond this village. The vision is to create a model of rural transformation, developing 10 Smart and Intelligent Villages in every taluka and gradually extending it across the State. With this step, the dream of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and prosperous villages is moving closer to reality. Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, MLA Charansingh Thakur and other dignitaries were present. Fellow Nigerians and friends from around the world, good day to you all. Trust deficits between the governed and those who govern have long shaped our national story. Overcoming this requires public administrators across all tiers and branches of government Government of Nigeria to embrace accountability and transparency in managing the commonwealth of our people. In line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubuโ€™s Bola Ahmed Tinubu Renewed Hope Agenda, we have begun the deliberate and necessary work of institutionalizing this approach in the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare Federal Ministry of Health, NIGERIA and in the agencies under our oversight. I am pleased to inform Nigerians that our ministry and its parastatals have entered into a multi-year pact with the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission ICPC to monitor, track, and audit expenditures involved in the nationwide overhaul of health infrastructure across all local government areas of the federation. In the medical profession, prevention is better than cure. This principle applies equally to our new approach to addressing official corruption and financial misconduct in the health sector. The primary objective of this pact with the ICPC is to institute preventive and corrective anti-corruption mechanisms, with particular emphasis on close surveillance of health parastatals and funding pathways under the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund Basic Health Care Provision Fund, which serves as a federal conduit to subnational entities responsible for the judicious use of resources. As part of this partnership, state and local governments will be integrated into strengthened accountability processes to ensure standardized anti-corruption measures nationwide. More specifically, the ICPC is mandated to report on the status of projects identified by the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency NPHCDA as a prerequisite for final certification of project completion. In real time, the ICPC will provide stage-by-stage monitoring of primary healthcare revitalization projects across all implementing states and local government areas to ensure value for money. Additionally, our pact with the ICPC introduces a new certification process for anti-corruption training and capacity-building initiatives to support health sector staff in preventing and addressing corrupt practices within their mandates. While these historic steps offer a sustainable template for fiscal prudence in the sector, we are simultaneously advancing a multi-dimensional strategy to confront the threat corruption poses to the health of every Nigerian. We recognize the critical role of our youth in driving reforms at the community level. This recognition led to the recruitment and deployment of hundreds of Performance and Financial Management Officers (#PFMOs) across all local government areas to continuously assess primary health centre rehabilitation and operational performance. This initiative complements President Bola Ahmed Tinubuโ€™s commissioning of the National Health Fellowsโ€”774 young leaders from every local government areaโ€”selected through a rigorous process and prepared to sustain the new anti-corruption procedures aligned with their technical and administrative responsibilities. This fight against long-standing development inhibitors in the health sector is essential not only for improving the lives of Nigerians but also for enhancing donor confidence, with direct implications for non-governmental and multilateral financial support for key health interventions for our nation. This is our time to reclaim the nation we love, to reject what has held us back, and to affirm a new social contract grounded in integrity, renewed trust, and renewed hope. Thank you, and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The ongoing crisis in our national air transportation system caused by the halt in funding for Air Traffic Controllers is going to lead to discussions about replacing many human ATCs with AI ATC (with a larger conversation regarding aI piloting looming on the horizon). Just yesterday, CNN India reported that the Air Traffic Safety Electronic Personnel Association shared guidelines for how to implement AI into the current ATC systems. China is making significant strides in developing and using AI for air traffic control (ATC) to enhance efficiency and safety. They have projects like Alibaba Cloud's "ET Aviation Brain" aimed at managing airport congestion and systems that focus on predictive analytics and better situational awareness. This marks the initial phase of "assisting" human ATCs, which will eventually result in their complete replacement. For instance, China has poured a lot of money into AI-controlled shipping container ports, with major locations like Shanghai's Yangshan Deep-Water Port and Qingdao Port leading the charge in full automation (I have shown videos of China's AI port operations in several of my presentations). These automated terminals utilize AI, 5G, and other cutting-edge technologies such as driverless trucks and automated cranes. Numerous ports in China are now fully automated, removing the need for human presence on the docks during loading and unloading. This is merely the next step into the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR), where human operation is seen as problematic and outdated compared to capable AI. Therefore, anticipate that the current ATC problem and the public's reaction to the problem will result in AI being proposed as the solution.
