From June 10 to July 10, we’re inviting individuals, research institutions, start-ups, NGOs and businesses to submit coral innovations that could help turn... the tide on coral reef decline. The The Earthshot Prize and CORDAP are seeking coral innovators from across all sectors — private, public, and not-for-profit. We believe the most successful innovations are inclusive, rooted in diverse perspectives, and involve those most affected by the coral crisis. We’re looking for solutions with the potential for significant impact in addressing coral loss — ones that, when fully developed, can be scaled or replicated widely. We call on coral innovators, and all those who support or champion their work, to share their solutions with us. What if I told you that forests hidden in our oceans may be more valuable than many forests on land ? Coral reefs, seagrass meadows and seaweed forests are among Earth’s most important ecosystems. Coral reefs cover just 0.1% of the ocean floor yet support nearly 25% of all marine species and the livelihoods of 500 million people. Seagrass meadows support about 20% of global fisheries and can store up to 140 tonnes of carbon per hectare. Seaweed forests generate billions in economic value. However there is deep crisis unfolding underwater. UN Environment Programme and the IPCC warn that up to 90% of the world’s coral reefs could disappear by 2050, while seagrass meadows and other blue carbon ecosystems continue to decline. Tamil Nadu is at the forefront of marine conservation. With more than 77% of India’s seagrass meadows in the Palk Bay and Gulf of Mannar, the State is restoring seagrass, coral reefs, mangroves and islands with World Bank Group such as Kariyachalli to secure the future of dugongs, sea turtles, seahorses and countless marine species. The Niceaunties AI Video Grant At Fellowship, we believe in creating an environment for experimentation and the development of ideas. That is why, when niceaunties proposed a grant program for mentorship and the creation of AI videos, we immediately said yes. Today, I visited the Accra Digital Centre to assess the extent of the damage caused by yesterday’s floods. It was heartbreaking to witness the impact on businesses, innovators, entrepreneurs and the many young people whose work has been disrupted. My thoughts are with everyone affected, and I sincerely hope for a swift recovery. The Accra Digital Centre is our premier hub for startups and young innovators. We also run a learning centre as part of the One Million Coders Programme. The damage to equipment and infrastructure is severe and will require substantial resources to get the Hub back to full functionality. I have assured the affected businesses and the Centre's management that we will engage with the relevant stakeholders to support recovery efforts and explore practical measures to reduce the risk of similar incidents in the future. To everyone still dealing with the aftermath of the floods, please continue to stay safe as the rains persist. Let us all do our part to keep our environment clean and our drains free from waste. For God and Country.🦁🇬🇭

Rescue operations continue in Kharkiv at the sites struck by Russian bombs. Tragically, there are fatalities, including a child—a girl named Sofia, who would have turned 15 this fall. My deepest condolences to her family and loved ones. Many others are injured. Aid is being provided to all those affected, and rescuers are doing everything they can to save as many lives as possible. I am grateful to everyone involved in the rescue efforts and to all those who are supporting Kharkiv and its residents. These horrific, cowardly Russian strikes targeted ordinary homes and a city park. Russia will be held accountable for all its evil deeds. But the world must remember that the most effective tactic is to prevent evil from acting in the first place. We need decisions—decisions that our partners can make, decisions from those countries that have the power to ensure we have the capability to destroy Russian military aircraft at their bases, where eliminating these terrorists and their aircraft will be most effective. In Ukraine, together with our friends around the world, we’re not just talking about long-range solutions, we’re talking about strong solutions, the kind that can bring this war to an end. For Putin, the most important tool in his wars is terror against civilians—intimidation and cruelty towards people. This is the same evil Russia unleashed in Syria, in Georgia, and now in Ukraine. Our national aspirations for self-sufficiency and import substitution can only be achieved through continuous innovation and hard work. I am pleased to see our ambitious youth channeling their talents and ideas into meaningful and practical innovations through the Skill Ethiopia challenge. While I congratulate those already engaged in innovation, I also encourage other young people to observe the pressing needs of our communities and strive to create solutions in service of their nation. Additionally, I call upon all stakeholders, including the business community, to support these and other young innovators in scaling up their production capabilities.

Yesterday, I presented a petition to the Senate to protect a groundbreaking Kenyan innovation: the New Generation Muthea Antivenom, developed in Wamunyu, Machakos. This life-saving remedy, which uses no animal plasma, has successfully treated snake bites for over a century, with zero recorded fatalities. Yet, instead of receiving support, its local developers are facing harassment, intimidation, and attempts to hijack their intellectual property. They’ve endured coercive demands to surrender their patent and formula, threats and legal intimidation from shadowy figures with vested interests, delays and sabotage by public officials using red tape to stall approvals, smear campaigns to discredit their work and deny them support and the financial exclusion from grants and recognition meant for innovators. The petition seeks to ensure the innovators’ rights are protected, investigate misconduct by public officials, suspend any officials found to be obstructing justice and establish national protections and policy for indigenous innovation. This isn’t just about one product. It’s about how we treat innovation in Kenya. Kenya must be a country where bold ideas are nurtured; not stifled. Where innovators are empowered; not extorted. A country that stifles its innovators is one that kills its own future. Let’s build a Kenya where innovation, justice, and integrity win, every time.

A Berlin format meeting with partners. The main focus was on the situation in our energy sector and our reconstruction. Ukraine will prepare and send partners a list of needs to support our energy infrastructure and military capabilities. We are counting on their support. Attention was also given to security guarantees for Ukraine and all of Europe. We also discussed our diplomatic work and the importance of assistance to Ukraine. Support for the PURL initiative must continue, and the full potential of the SAFE instrument for joint weapons production with Ukraine must be realized. Ukrainians, along with all other Europeans, must feel secure in their future and assured that Russian aggression will never occur again. I thank our partners who understand this and help. We aligned our positions, coordinated next steps, and agreed on further contacts within the broader circle.

Visited traders affected by fire incidents at Toi Market and later at Umoja 2. Poleni sana to all affected and condolences to the bereaved. Sadly, we lost 4 souls in the Toi inferno. We will support their families during this trying time. For the traders, we will rebuild and help you get back to your feet. Thanks to the first responders and all who tried to help salvage the situation. We had a total of 7 fires across the city last night, and all affected will get support. For those who caused incitement, it is well, nothing will stop us from supporting our people.
