We still have a lot of work to do, but our Kiambu team is dedicated to ensuring that we have stable and reliable electricity supply in the county, one step at a time. I’m not out on the jobsite a whole lot anymore—but whenever it comes to the brickwork, that’s where I’m still heavily involved. On Townsend, we are doing a chamfered corner (45 degree angle), and most masons today will either cut the angle into the face of the brick, exposing a cut edge which looks really different than a finished edge, OR will just butt the brick together, not lapping it, and leave a continuous joint that will start to pull apart—which also looks bad (and lets water in). We always want to lap our brick for proper “bonding”. It’s way better functionally, and also looks much better. That’s what we are doing here, laying out all of our brickwork, particularly how we are handling these chamfers, and making sure we aren’t going to end up with any tiny brick “slivers”. A little attention to detail goes a long way here. People often ask why our buildings look so different, or comment that our buildings look “old” (in a good way). This is one of the reasons: we are practicing good masonry techniques, and while most people don’t actually know what details to look for when looking at a brick building, they sense it. There are a number of other reasons modern brick buildings typically look crappy compared to older brick buildings, and this is one of them!

I think it tells a lot when many Syrian media activists don't report on what Ahmad al-Shara said today about how to treat POWs: "What separates us from our enemies is our commitment to our principles. When we compromise our morality, we become our enemies on some level, and the remnants of the fallen regime look for an instigation to cause a violation that they can plead behind. I remind you that Allah has made the status of the prisoner the same as the orphan and the needy: 'And they give food to the poor, the orphan and the captive, out of love for him.' He [Allah] has made it a position of kindness and compassion, so the prisoner should not be humiliated or beaten, because that is against Allah's command and then the law of the state."

On Good Friday, we commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus. During my visit to the US Merchant Marine Academy, I spoke with an amazing group of young midshipmen about Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins. A complaint from ONE “concerned citizen” got the Academy’s beautiful & historic “Christ on the Water” painting relegated out of the hall where it was displayed, to the basement, where it’s rarely seen. We shouldn’t have to hide our faith, regardless of our religion. I think there’s no better time than Easter to bring Jesus out of the basement and back to a place where our brave and strong merchant marines can draw inspiration from it. What do you think about Jesus in the basement?

VIDEO PROOF: Those supporting this guy claimed our protesters were blocking traffic, but as you can see in this video, is anyone standing in front of the truck? No. They also alleged that protesters were damaging his truck—yet, do we see anyone touching it? No. What we do see is an enraged, little man exiting his truck, not once, but twice, to harm peaceful protesters on camera. And let’s not forget his own words, posted on his own Facebook, where he openly targets liberals and boasts about using his truck to instill fear in this community. We have footage of him repeatedly revving his engine, and we’ve captured multiple angles showing him as the clear aggressor. He is the bully, the instigator, and, by every definition, a domestic terrorist. The protesters were simply standing on the sidewalk when he chose to escalate the situation, leaping out of his vehicle to attack them.

In The Firm, a 1993 legal thriller with Tom Cruise, there’s a great example of a storytelling technique called Chekhov’s Gun. Named after Anton Chekhov, who advised in letters to young playwrights that “One must never place a loaded rifle on the stage if it isn't going to go off. It's wrong to make promises you don't mean to keep." The term explains that every element in a story must be necessary, and if it’s not, it should be eliminated from the scene entirely. Three times throughout the movie, while Tom Cruise’s character is making his way into his office, there is a cotton truck blocking an alleyway. For some odd reason, you hear the voices of the security guard and the truck driver going at it louder than you hear other extras on the street. A reference is also made by the security guard that he’s tired of having this conversation with the driver every day, hinting to the viewer that the truck blocking the alley is a regular occurrence. By the movie's end, the cotton truck does not have any importance. But true to the essence of Chekhov’s gun, it’s there for a reason. When Tom Cruise eventually has to make a daring escape from the law firm’s building, he uses the cotton truck to catch his fall after jumping from a third-story window. If that truck wasn’t ever there before in the movie, it would be an occurrence of deus ex machina, or what happens when a plot is resolved in an implausible way. But knowing the cotton truck was there in both Acts 1 and 2 of the movie, the viewer doesn’t feel like they’re being cheated, and the question every viewer is asking – “Why is the cotton truck parked there every day and why do we hear them yell so much about it,” – is finally resolved.

The only way to change a capitalist regime like the United States that values profits and property more than human life is to disrupt and take back the one thing the system cares about: Capital. To do this the working class must organize a mass movement to seize the means of production and put the economy directly in the hands of the people, not the oligarchs. A better world that puts people over profits is possible but only if we come together and fight for it!

Q: Where is being told you look like a garbage truck a sincere form of flattery? A: In the best and most important job ever. In honor of Labor Day, I want to take a moment to uplift our nation’s early childhood educators. If you take anything away from my posts at all, let it be this: the years of early childhood are uniquely consequential. The period from prenatal to five is when the fundamental architecture of the brain is wired, ideally setting children on the path to longterm success in school and life. But we have a giant mismatch between the science and our public policy when it comes to how we support and compensate our young children’s teachers. Did you know that the median wage for preschool teachers (in child care settings) is only $13.22 an hour - less than we pay most fast food employees? Teachers who work with young children in public school settings do a little better, but still worse than their peers working with older students. This is, in part, because we persistently fail to recognize what I’ve tried to use my timeline to help illustrate: that learning begins LONG before children enter kindergarten. If we want to maximize brain development - and minimize the long term costs to society caused by our failure to do so - we simply must focus on the supports needed by adults, both in and out of the home, who do this hard, but joyful work. Put simply, our nation’s early childhood workforce deserves better. And our children need them to be trained and compensated like the literal brain builders they are. On this Labor Day, I thank early childhood educators. And hope you’ll do the same. This video offers just a quick glimpse of the joy of working with preschoolers. Q: Where is being told you look like a garbage truck a sincere form of flattery? A: In the best and most important job ever. In honor of Labor Day, I want to take a moment to uplift our nation’s early childhood educators. If you take anything away from my posts at all, let it be this: the years of early childhood are uniquely consequential. The period from prenatal to five is when the fundamental architecture of the brain is wired, ideally setting children on the path to longterm success in school and life. But we have a giant mismatch between the science and our public policy when it comes to how we support and compensate our young children’s teachers. Did you know that the median wage for preschool teachers (in child care settings) is only $13.22 an hour - less than we pay most fast food employees? Teachers who work with young children in public school settings do a little better, but still worse than their peers working with older students. This is, in part, because we persistently fail to recognize what I’ve tried to use my timeline to help illustrate: that learning begins LONG before children enter kindergarten. If we want to maximize brain development - and minimize the long term costs to society caused by our failure to do so - we simply must focus on the supports needed by adults, both in and out of the home, who do this hard, but joyful work. Put simply, our nation’s early childhood workforce deserves better. And our children need them to be trained and compensated like the literal brain builders they are. Last summer I found myself sitting in a room in Switzerland surrounded by world leaders from completely different industries, all talking about the future of our planet. A very different environment to what I was used to! I was invited onto to a channel to give my take on leadership with my best mate and brother Jay. We talked about leadership and what it meant to us both. I always used to think leaders were born but it’s far from the truth…. They are made. My biggest realisation was that we talk a lot about leadership like it’s confidence and certainty. Like leaders always know what to do. The truth is they don’t… and that’s ok. But good leaders will go seek out better answers and grow. While poor leaders will leave it to someone else to do or turn a blind eye. The day made me realise most of my growth has come from failing. I try to lead with my best intentions, but upon reflection or feedback, I realise there was a better way to do it and then next time…. I lead better and the process repeats! And that day forced me to look at myself properly. As for me, leadership isn’t a title, or being a CEO or having an armband. It’s influence. And that’s the scary part, because everyone has it. Even my two young kids. Every morning before school I tell them the same thing: Be the sunshine in the room ☀️ Because whether we like it or not, we’re leading every single day. In the changing room. When you learn the fundamental law it is important to get in front of your government servants in the presence of the people to teach both the people and your servants that the people have all the power , that your trustees are there to benefit the people , to tell them where they are falling in danger of maladministration, what the law is and how to correct it. It is in exercising your power and right that brings forth a paradigm shift like none you’ve seen before. Doing this flips your local state and federal government back to the people as the people learn and start joining you in speaking the law. It becomes no longer about complaining about the issues but using your power and authority as it is written to correct and bring the change necessary to secure our republic for yourself and for the common good of all. This is not only our right but our duty to teach our trustees what their job is. Many say they won’t listen or live in fear of what they may do, but as you can see here I spoke in front of police officers and our trustees and I was not detained or restrained from standing on my authority. I also was not called a sovereign citizen and the outcome of getting the people to stand with me in signing those notices and serving them made our county board do right by the people and not pass the mandate. There’s a reason Ben Franklin said “ a republic if you can keep it”. He was saying it’s on the people to maintain what they secured for you. The people need to show back up and run their nation the way our founders laid out in all 51 constitution they penned. Everyone is searching for remedy but most don’t look in the 50 state constitutions that expressly declared our power authority and rights. Your remedy is there, the only question is will you use it?
