The grief of this loss continues to reverberate through the Tamil community in Ontario and around the world. We remember those who were killed and disappeared, and we stand with the Tamil community in its ongoing fight for truth, justice, and accountability.

Peter Alphonse says, “In a reply to Anbumani Ramadoss, MP from PMK party, the Jal Shakti minister has answered in the Parliament that Tamil Nadu and other lower riparian states need not give any consent for the proposed Mekedatu Dam to be constructed by the Karnataka government, that is a stand which is very much detrimental to the interest of the lower riparian states, especially in Tamil Nadu. This kind of stand was never taken by any previous Union governments, because the original proposal for the Mekedatu Dam was proposed in the time of Gundu Rao… When the MGR government was here, they passed a resolution in the assembly; then the President of India himself cancelled the project because Tamil Nadu objected to it because it is a lower riparian state. The Cauvery River Water Authority categorically stated that the award guarantees 177.5 TMC. So any construction which will harm the interest of Tamil Nadu should not be allowed to be constructed. That is the order of the tribunal. Now, the present Mekedatu Dam, it is proposed to be constructed in the catchment area, which will get 80 TMC water for the share of the Government of Tamil Nadu… The entire 80 TMC water will not come to Tamil Nadu. The entire Cauvery Delta will convert to deserts… It will also permanently damage the economy of Tamil Nadu…”

The INC is clear that the mandate in Tamil Nadu is for a secular government, committed to protecting the Constitution in letter and spirit. The INC is determined not to allow the BJP and its proxies to run the government of Tamil Nadu in any manner. Thiru Vijay has also spoken about drawing inspiration from Perunthalaivar Kamaraj.
