Investigations led to the arrest of the arrowhead of the cartel posses as a social media influencer and a businessman who deals in gold. He however, allegedly coordinated the Nigerian arm of the cartel and move cocaine from South America through Nigeria to the UK, Europe and Asia, He was arrested at the boarding gate of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on August 13 while allegedly attempting to flee to Paris. A subsequent raid on their residence in Agbara, Ogun State, uncovered an additional eight blocks of cocaine weighing 10 kilograms, bringing the total seizure to 57.5 kilograms. The statement reads: "A cocaine trafficking cartel headed by a couple: Bolanle Lookman Dauda and Olayinka Toheebat Dauda has been smashed in Lagos and Ogun States by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, with multi-billion-naira worth of the illicit drug recovered in two major operations following the arrest of the kingpin and his queen in one of the intelligence-led raids. "The duo were arrested on Saturday 25th May 2024 by operatives of a special operation unit in NDLEA with the support of the Drug Enforcement Administration of the United States at Ibiye, along Lagos-Badagry expressway while attempting to cross the land border to deliver the consignment in Ghana. "At the point of their arrest, 42 blocks of the Class A drug weighing 47.5 kilograms were found on them. "No less than 790 ampoules of the dangerous opioid weighing 5.273kg were equally seized from another member of the fentanyl syndicate, 48-year-old Chieze Ogechukwu Benjamin who was also arrested at Idumota market. Fentanyl, a lethal synthetic opioid, which is 100 times more potent than heroin is currently responsible for over 70% of overdose deaths as well as a major contributor to fatal and nonfatal overdoses in the US. "Two other persons: Olayiwola Aremu Kazeem, 37, and Ogunfowora Taofik Ajibola, 35, were arrested on Lagos Island in a different raid by NDLEA officers with 432 grams of methamphetamine recovered from them. NDLEA operatives at Tincan port in Lagos intercepted a container marked MSMU 7294325 on May 25, containing a Toyota Highlander SUV with 15 parcels of Loud, a synthetic cannabis strain, weighing 7.5kg. NDLEA Arrests Fleeing Celebrity Drug Kingpin, Busts International Cocaine Cartel in Lagos By Zagazola Makama The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dismantled an international cocaine trafficking cartel operating through Nigeria as a transit hub to the United Kingdom, Europe and Asia, arresting its alleged Nigerian kingpin as he attempted to flee the country. The operation also led to the seizure of 184.50kg of cocaine, which the cartel allegedly intended to move through a courier logistics channel in Lagos for onward distribution, with an estimated street value of about N39 billion. The NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), disclosed the development while addressing journalists in Lagos on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. Marwa described the operation as one of the most significant narcotics investigations undertaken by the agency in recent times, particularly because it resulted in what he described as the largest cocaine seizure made through a courier company in Nigeria. According to him, the investigation began after NDLEA operatives intercepted the 184.50kg consignment concealed for onward export through a courier logistics channel in Lagos. Following the magnitude of the seizure, the NDLEA chairman directed the establishment of a Special Investigation Team to trace the entire trafficking network, including the couriers, intermediaries, financiers and alleged masterminds behind the shipment. The investigation subsequently uncovered a network of companies and individuals allegedly used by the cartel to process and move cocaine out of Nigeria. One of the key suspects arrested was identified as Lawal Mujab Kehinde, a staff member of the logistics company through which the cocaine consignment was processed. Investigators allegedly established that Kehinde maintained a sustained relationship with the cartel’s Nigerian coordinator and was involved in packaging and processing consignments for the syndicate. The NDLEA said he allegedly helped route shipments to the United Kingdom, other European countries and Asia, receiving payments in cash for his role. The investigation then led operatives to a more prominent suspect identified as Afolabi Kazeem Michael, popularly known online as “KC Luxury.” The agency described him as the alleged Nigerian arrowhead of the international cartel. According to the NDLEA, Afolabi presented himself publicly as a luxury goods dealer and social media influencer involved in gold, jewellery and other high-value items, while allegedly using the lifestyle surrounding his businesses to conceal his involvement in international cocaine trafficking. Investigators alleged that the network operated a cocaine pipeline stretching from South America through Nigeria to the United Kingdom, Europe and Asia.
