IG of Police Is a Blackmailer Who Plays to the Gallery โ€“ Osun Information Commissioner, Kolapo Alimi The Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, has strongly criticised the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, accusing him of "playing to the gallery" during his recent visit to Osun State and alleging that his comments were politically motivated. Speaking during a podcast aired on Sunday in both Yoruba and English, Alimi described the Inspector-General as a "blackmailer" whose conduct was allegedly intended to serve the interests of the opposition APC rather than uphold professional policing. According to the Commissioner, the Inspector-General's public comments suggesting that Governor Ademola Adeleke was harbouring suspected criminals in the Government House were inappropriate and inconsistent with the conduct expected of the nation's highest-ranking police officer. Alimi said: "A truly unbiased and professional police officer would have discussed the issue with the Governor behind the scenes instead of making such uncomplimentary and unsubstantiated remarks in the presence of journalists. That was done in bad faith. That is a subtle blackmail to destroy the reputation of the Governor. That is playing to the gallery to seek public validation. That was unbecoming of a professional and diligent Inspector-General of Police. A diligent police officer should have got the touted criminals arrested before even coming to Osun if truly the Governor is harbouring criminals." The Commissioner maintained that the Inspector-General's remarks were biased and politically motivated, alleging that they were aimed at advancing the interests of the APC rather than ensuring impartial law enforcement. It will be recalled that during his meeting with Governor Ademola Adeleke last Thursday, the Inspector-General of Police stated that he had been briefed by the Commissioner of Police in Osun State that some wanted suspects, including Emir Ajagungbade, Nurudeen Alowonle, Solomon Adefioye (popularly known as Solo Iwara), Jide Jแปda and other persons on the police wanted list, were allegedly taking refuge within the Osun State Government House, thereby preventing their arrest by the police. Governor Adeleke, however, rejected the allegation, insisting that no wanted criminal was being shielded within the Government House.

Immediately after our inauguration in November 2022, we set out to address the acute shortage of clean water to residents of Osun State, most notably the rural dwellers. With the successful completion of construction of 332 boreholes across all political wards in the state within our first 100 days in office, we have followed it up with strategic upgrade and renovation of several water works in the state for effective and efficient supply of clean water to the people. The completion of the ongoing renovation of Ora Igbomina waterworks, expected to serve about 5 or more local governments in Osun Central, and the renovation of Iwo Water Works, expected to serve the people of Iwo Federal Constituency , is another milestone in our quest to ensuring every household in Osun enjoys clean water. I appreciate the support of the good people of Osun State, as we remain committed to delivering on our administrationโ€™s 5 point-agenda.

PRESS STATEMENT 24/07/2006 APCโ€™s Desperate Plot to Discredit Adelekeโ€™s Achievements Through Project Vandalism Must Be Stopped - OSUN ACCORD The Osun Accord has received credible reports of a disturbing pattern of vandalisation targeting public infrastructure delivered by the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke. These acts are not ordinary criminal activities but appear to be part of a calculated attempt by desperate elements in the opposition APC to undermine and discredit the remarkable achievements of the current administration ahead of the forthcoming governorship election. Having failed to match the Governorโ€™s impressive record of performance, these elements seem determined to destroy the very projects that are transforming communities across the state in order to create a false impression of government failure. These acts of sabotage is strongly condemned in the strongest terms and those behind them should know that public infrastructure belongs to the people of Osun State, not to any political party. The destruction of roads, public facilities, streetlights, and other government assets is an attack on the collective interest of our citizens and will not diminish the resolve of Governor Adeleke to continue delivering dividends of democracy to every part of the state. The security agencies is hereby called on to thoroughly investigate these incidents, identify those responsible regardless of their political affiliation, and ensure they face the full weight of the law. We hereby urge residents, community leaders, youth groups, and all well-meaning citizens to remain vigilant and take ownership of public assets by promptly reporting any suspicious activities around government projects to the appropriate security agencies. The people of Osun have witnessed unprecedented infrastructural development under Governor Ademola Adeleke, and no amount of politically motivated vandalism will erase these visible achievements or derail the administrationโ€™s commitment to building a more prosperous and secure state for all. As a ruling party in government, we will ensure proper surveillance of all our projects, including setting up a monitoring team while the ministry of Works has commenced inspection of the site to examine level of sabotage. Together, we must protect our common heritage from those who seek to sacrifice public interest for partisan political gain. Signed: Pastor Victor Akande Chairman, Osun Accord
