After he was arrested in Dallas on May 30 for allegedly driving without a valid license, possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a firearm, a suspect in Texas decided to take the police wheel into his own hands. The incident happened after the suspect secretly removed his left hand from his handcuffs. When officers began driving to jail, the suspect attempted to open the squad car's rear door, prompting the officers to get out of the car, and eventually climbed into the driver’s seat and took off. One of the officers managed to jump into the backseat of the vehicle. That officer then attempted to stop the suspect by tasing him and striking him on the side of the head with his firearm. The suspect opened the driver’s side door and jumped out after driving what police said was a distance of about 1,000 feet. At that point, the police officer was able to regain control of the patrol car, and the suspect was given medical assistance before being taken back into custody, where he faces numerous charges.

On November 28th, SPD Bike officers patrolling downtown observed a suspect openly smoking marijuana. After speaking with the suspect and during a search of his belongings, officers located a loaded firearm. Officers searched a second individual associated with the suspect and located another loaded firearm and marijuana. A third associated suspect was also later arrested after officers were able to trace the trio back to a nearby vehicle where additional quantities of marijuana and drug paraphernalia indicative of sales activity was located. All three suspects, 19-year-old Amaru Rages of Sacramento, 21-year-old Capazjin Stroman of Sacramento, and 26-year-old Tylor Hampton were arrested for multiple drug and firearm charges. The suspect then dropped the bag and started running. After a foot pursuit through the parking lot, the suspect was taken into custody. The suspect vehicle was able to avoid capture (for the time being), however, all $1,779.79 of the merchandise was recovered. The suspect, who is on parole for being a felon who possessed a firearm, was booked for grand theft, organized retail theft, conspiracy, and put on a parole hold.
