TO FIX THAT RAT, PARLIAMENT MAY NEED A MARSHALL PLAN. In 2008, when UB40 lit up Lugogo Stadium and belted out โ€œThereโ€™s a rat in mi kitchen, what am I gonna do?โ€, the answer was obvious: fix that rat. The crowd went wild. So did two young men dancing like tomorrow had been cancelled -yours truly and Marshall Godfrey Alenyo Jr. It was reggae, rebellion, and rhythm. But as fate would have it, that song was less nostalgia and more prophecy. Fast-forward to 2026. Marshall has spotted another rat -this time not in a kitchen, but in the mechanics of representation, debate, and delivery. He fixed one in Jonam County and emerged victorious as MP. Now he has his sights on a bigger one: the quality and conduct of debate in the 12th Parliament of Uganda. And yes, he intends to fix that rat tooโ€”by vying for Deputy Speaker of Parliament as an Independent. This is not bravado. This is biography. I have watched Marshall speak in rooms where the air thickens and people lean forward instinctively. You know the look -hand to mouth, head tilted, eyes locked in. Itโ€™s the look of people watching thought assemble itself in real time. A piano could fall outside and no one would flinch. Thatโ€™s eloquence with authority. From Namilyango College -where he was the default MC -to Makerere University as Guild Minister, to international platforms like the 2012 UKโ€“Uganda Convention at the Troxy in East London, Marshall has done what great speakers do: make complex ideas feel inevitable. That day, a senior immigration officer calmly walked Ugandans through dual citizenship and the National ID rollout. The crowd was stunned. The speaker was Marshall Alenyo. Also in attendance was first lady Janet K. Museveni and speaker Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga . Add to that a career as a retired senior immigration officer, a Masters of Law in International Human Rights and Public Policy from University College Cork, and the instincts of a lawyer trained in evidence, equity, and rule of law. Yes, he is also famously known as The Legend MC -because leadership, like emceeing, is about reading the room, setting the tone, and knowing when to be firm. Marshall is not naรฏve about the task ahead. He respects the eloquence of the incumbent Deputy Speaker, Hon. Thomas Tayebwa. But history shows that #Parliament thrives when it renews itself. Marshall often recalls the Constituent Assembly days -Wapakhabulo, Adoko Nekyon, Okullo Epak, Noble Mayombo -debates that rose above party and tribe, anchored in nationalism and pan-African purpose. That spirit, he argues, needs revival. So yes, this is a big rat. And yes, it will take a #MarshallPlan to fix it. Members in -the yet to be sworn in, 12th Parliament of Uganda may want to listen closely -because something is about to hit the floor. His name is Marshall Godfrey Alenyo Jr, MP Elect #Jonam #Uganda Daily Monitor The New Vision NBS Television NTV UGANDA The Independent

I rise to express my profound gratitude to His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for convening a reconciliatory meeting between Hon. Shartsi Kutesa Musherure and Hon. Aine Sodo. This timely intervention facilitated Hon. Sodo's ascension to the position in the forthcoming primary elections. This gesture is reminiscent of President Museveni's past efforts, which led to Hon. Sodo's gracious decision to step down in favour of Hon. Shartsi in the 2021 election. I commend Hon. Shartsi for demonstrating exemplary respect towards elders and a willingness to listen, as evident in her selfless decision to relinquish her candidacy in favour of Hon. Sodo. This remarkable display of statesmanship underscores her outstanding character and rare political maturity. As we stand united in our commitment to serving the people of Mawogola County North Constituency, I extend my sincere appreciation to Hon. Sam Kahamba Kutesa for his instrumental role in promoting harmony and cooperation. I acknowledge his invaluable advice and guidance in this matter, and I thank him for his unwavering dedication to our shared goals. Once again, I express my deepest gratitude to President Museveni for his visionary leadership and to Hon. Shartsi for her exemplary statesmanship. Together, we shall continue to serve our nation with unity, integrity and devotion. Thank you. Nuwagira Michael Toyota National Vice Chairman, Patriotic League Uganda (PLU)

Excerpts from CJ Malaba's biography as read by Deputy Chief Justice, Honourable Elizabeth Gwaunza: -During the time that he was Judge of Appeal and a Deputy Chief Justice, he was also a Judge of the COMESA Court of Justice for more than a decade (2005-2016). -Mr Justice Malaba is an accomplished human rights defender who has taken advantage of his judicial posting by delivering judgments that protect the fundamental human rights of the vulnerable including women, children and persons with disabilities amongst others. -Since his appointment as the Chief Justice, he has led the judiciary and the Judicial Service Commission in taking deliberate steps meant to enhance access to justice for the people of Zimbabwe through the construction of courthouses in various parts of the country, simplifying court rules so that they are easily understood by ordinary persons and increasing the number of judicial officers both in the magistracy and superior courts. -Under his stewardship, the courts in Zimbabwe are moving towards digitisation through the Integrated Electronic Case Management System (I.E.C.M.S). The first phase of the I.E.C.M.S. was launched on 1 May 2022, at the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court and the Commercial Division of the High Court. -This July 2025, under his leadership, the Judicial Service Commission launched the I.E.C.M.S. in the magistrates courts. This phase marks the final stage of the digitisation of Zimbabwe's courts. -Mr Justice Malaba has participated in various training programmes both in the country and the region. He contributed significantly to collaboration in the continental judicial space through Zimbabwe's hosting of the 7th Congress of the Conference of Constitutional Jurisdictions of Africa (CJCA) and the African Electoral Justice Network (AEJN). -He is the current President of the CJCA, serving from 2024 to 2026. -Justice Malaba has also established the Judicial Training Institute of Zimbabwe (JTIZ) whose sole mandate is to develop human capital through training of judicial and non-judicial staff of the Judicial Service Commission.

With Mayor Dele Oshinowo, leadership has never been about empty promises or political grammar. It has always been about visible impact, real work and a connection with the people. For eight years, the people of Agboyi-Ketu experienced a government that worked tirelessly, delivered consistently and transformed communities in ways everyone could see, feel and testify to. The records are everywhere: in the roads, the housing projects, the empowerment programmes, the schools, the ICT revolution, the healthcare interventions and the opportunities created for thousands of residents. What makes this journey different is simple: the people already know what Mayor Dele Oshinowo is capable of. They have seen a leader who understands the grassroots, listens to the people and delivers with results that speak louder than campaign promises. Now, Kosofe Federal Constituency has the opportunity to take that same proven leadership, experience and people-first governance to a bigger stage. This is not a gamble. This is not trial and error. This is a continuation of tested leadership and visible performance. We urge the good people of Kosofe to look at the records, look at the impact, listen to the voices of the people and support Mayor Dele Oshinowo for the House of Representatives. Because when leadership truly works, the people always win. Support proven capacity. Support visible impact. Support stronger representation for Kosofe. Support Mayor Dele Oshinowo for House of Representatives, Kosofe Federal Constituency. Stronger Representation; Stronger Kosofe.

PDP Backs Wike: Says โ€˜He Has Always Been There for Usโ€™ The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reiterated its strong support for Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, commending his loyalty and contributions to the party. At a book launch held in Wikeโ€™s honour, the Deputy National Chairman (South) of the PDP, Taofeek Arapaja, emphasized that despite internal party challenges, including members with an โ€œentitlement mentality,โ€ Wike continues to earn admiration and respect. Arapaja described Wike as one of the most devoted and loyal leaders the party has ever had. He stated: โ€œOur mentor and principal, who has never left the PDP for a day, is one of the most committed and loyal party leaders we have ever had. He has done well, he is doing well, and we wish him well in all his future endeavours.โ€ Arapaja praised Wikeโ€™s steadfast advocacy for equity, justice, and fairness, highlighting his leadership role in the G5 group and his consistent support for fellow party members. He contrasted this with some leaders who only engage with the party when seeking help, affirming Wikeโ€™s integrity and dedication. โ€œWe know you, and we always love and appreciate you. Some people believe in entitlement mentality, but we will always stand by you because you are a man of integrity, honour, and a performer,โ€ Arapaja remarked. The PDP official also responded to recent criticisms made by Senate President Godswill Akpabio about the party. Arapaja expressed disappointment in Akpabioโ€™s negative remarks, pointing out that the Senate President, who was previously Governor of Akwa Ibom State under the PDP, owes much of his political career to the party. โ€œThe foundation of all political parties is the PDP. I am surprised when someone who is a product of the PDP speaks negatively about it,โ€ he said. Arapaja further acknowledged Akpabioโ€™s performance as governor under the PDP, noting, โ€œNobody can dispute the fact that the present Senate President performed during his tenure as governor under the PDP.โ€

Uganda is Industrializing . Yesterday morning, I had the honour of commissioning the 60th factory at Sino Park in Mbale . I want to warmly congratulate Chairman Jiyongling of Yangtze Industry Ltd, Sino Uganda-Mbale Industrial Park Chairman Paul Jang, and the entire team for bringing more investors, technology, production and jobs to Uganda. This is a historic investment because it is the first silicon and glue manufacturing factory of its kind in East and Central Africa. This is exactly the direction we want Uganda to take from exporting raw materials to adding value, manufacturing locally and exporting finished products. To our investors, Thank you for believing in Uganda! Thank you for investing in our peaceful, secure and increasingly industrialised nation . Your investment means jobs for our young people, opportunities for our entrepreneurs, markets for our farmers, skills for our workforce and stronger economic growth for our country. Under the leadership of H.E. President Yoweri K Museveni , Uganda has maintained the peace and stability necessary for businesses to invest and grow. On behalf of government , we shall continue strengthening security and creating an environment where investors can operate with confidence. I assured investors, government is also investing in electricity, roads, railway infrastructure and other critical infrastructure to lower the cost of doing business and connect Ugandan industries to the wider East African and regional markets. To investors around the world: Uganda is ready for you! Come and invest. Come and manufacture. Come and create jobs. Come and build with us! To our young people: the factories coming to Uganda are your opportunities. Get the skills, embrace technology, work hard and be ready to take your place in Ugandaโ€™s industrial revolution. Congratulations to the investors, management and workers of this great factory.

To honour Pa Ayo Adebanjo the great Patriot of the country, Chief Supo Shonibare, Peter Obi, Former Depity Governor of Lagos H.E Kofoworola Bucknor, Hon. Seyi Sowunmi, Mr. Segun Ayo Adebanjo, Mrs Adeola Azeez nee Adebanjo and a host of others participated in a candlelight procession. This candlelight procession in honour of Pa Ayo Adebanjo is not just a tribute but a powerful statement about his legacy and values. Pa Ayo Adebanjo was a LIGHT and a symbol of truth and integrity. He never compromised on his principles, even when it was unpopular, he was consistently consistent. This candlelight represents the honesty and integrity Baba upheld throughout his life. It is an illumination of the path to justice and equity. For decades, Baba advocated for fairness, restructuring, and good governance. Just as a candle lights the way in darkness, his work illuminated the need for justice and equity in our dear country, an aspect he stood for against all odds even during the last presidential election he witnessed. This candlelight procession is a reminder of his everlasting influence as the legendary leader of the great Afenifere, committed to Yoruba interests and national unity, because even as a candle melts, its light still shines. Similarly, though Baba is no longer physically present with us, his ideals, teachings, principles and contributions to Nigeria will continue to guide generations to come. The candlelight procession is not just a tribute, it is a CHALLENGE to us all as Nigerians to keep the flame of his advocacy alive. It reminds us that the fight for a just and restructured Nigeria must continue. During the candlelight procession, our multiple candles merged into a collective glow, this is just like the great Pa Adebanjo united people and great groups like Afenifere, under a common cause, fighting for a Nigeria that works for all. We MUST reignite the cause he fought for. We must ask ourselves: Are we willing to keep the fire burning and continue the fight for the Nigeria he envisioned? Will we let his light fade, or will we carry it forward? WE MUST KEEP HIS LEGACY BURNING May his light NEVER be extinguished. And as we build our country, may the flame of Babaโ€™s integrity, leadership and beliefs continue to burn brightly in our hearts and everyday life. KEEP THE FIRE BURNING, A NEW NIGERIA IS POSSIBLE.
