The conditions were literally picture perfect. Our plan was to meet the sunrise and hopefully a few of the world’s largest pelicans bathed in the glorious early morning light. As our precious and precise plan played out right before my eyes, I readied my camera. The soft pink cotton candy like plumage of a beautiful Great White Pelican immediately grabbed my attention. As it approached, I noticed its delicate reflection on the glassy surface. Time slowed. I realized I was holding my breath and that’s the exact moment a Dalmatian Pelican poked its massive head into the frame and stole the golden hour spotlight for a few seconds before casually sliding out of the shot. This pelican pulled off the perfect photobomb. And yet I still managed to capture the other pelican’s picture perfect landing as it lowered its feet and skied in. Magic.

This water is the difference between life and death to these poor animals. It broke my heart this morning to watch footage of these desperate animals searching the ground where the life saving water was. And watching small birds, whose own water dish had been stolen, trying and failing to get to the water left in the tub - seeing it but unable to safely reach it. Please share this on other social media platforms. Please don't be angry or rude to these children, we all did bad stuff when we were kids. But they need to understand the consequences of their thoughtless actions. We must teach kindness and tolerance to animals.
