The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has invited social media personality Dr David Nhunzva to report to the CID Law and Order unit to assist with investigations into alleged AI-generated content said to have damaged the image of the police. In a statement issued on 25 December 2025, the ZRP said Dr Nhunzva is being investigated for allegedly creating and circulating AI-generated videos that misrepresented the police. The police said the matter falls under the Cyber and Data Protection Act, Chapter 12:07, which criminalises the creation, distribution or publication of false or misleading information on digital platforms. “The ZRP reminds the public that the Cyber and Data Protection Act, Ch 12:07, criminalises creating, distributing or publishing false or misleading information on digital platforms,” the statement said. The police added that this includes “circulating deepfake videos, fabricated news, misleading claims, using digital platforms to humiliate, threaten or demean individuals or institutions and producing or sharing AI-generated content that misrepresents reality.” The police said it is in Dr Nhunzva’s interest to cooperate with investigators and report to CID Law and Order.
