Spent a long weekend with a group of folks in the mountains of Switzerland. All top people in their fields: a senior position in investment banking, CFO of a bank, serial acquirers, PE investors, etc. Some of the obvious observations: 1. Everyone’s busy, grinding, working hard to get things done, to take care of their family. 2. Almost all guys work long hours, be it Friday, Saturday, or Sunday; most folks had their phones on, getting some work done at any given time. 3. Everyone’s normal people - it really comes down to having abnormal goals, desires, and the willingness to do what is necessary to accomplish all that. When you hear folks in their late 30s, 40s, and 50s building and operating roll-up companies that are doing hundreds of millions in EBITDA, in niches you do not even know exist, it’s pretty special. Shows you the importance of focus and mastering your craft. All the 72 hours we spent together was great proof that more events like this need to happen. Going from online to offline, getting out from the day-to-day. Having various short and long interactions with people in different industries... Be it while on the lift coming up from the slope, during a coffee break, dinner, after dinner, 2-3 hour conversations, long walks, and overall brainstorming. Again, very special.

GPT-5.5 is MUCH more reliable on longer running tasks - for the first time with any model. As we speak I have a migration running for over 7+ hours - this literally never happened before, the models would maybe run for 30 mins or of you really shout at them for 2-3 hours. Last night I went to sleep, set a long running task, then queued up 10 prompts to 'keep it going'. It did not stop after the first prompt and kept going for 8+ hours and I woke up to all the same prompts still queued up. The ability to run for a long time, in combination with ability to validate with computer use & other tools, makes it much more useful for building real applications.

Seems like a good time to post this again for all the new people just now looking into the #KarenRead case thanks to the McAlberts and Tim Pool - Backing out of 34 Fairview Road just as they did in the early morning hours of 1/29/22 to go home and somehow they just didn’t see their 220lb “friend” dying on the lawn… The McAlberts will tell you “we weren’t looking at the ground” or some bullshit story about how they sat in the car and faced each other to have a conversation. Or “he was covered in snow!” 🙄 Lies. The commonwealth’s expert weatherman testified there was only “enough snow to track a cat” at midnight. The only reason no one saw John O’Keefe lying on the lawn in those early morning hours, including the plow driver who drove by multiple times, is because he wasn’t on the lawn yet. As ferry pilots, we often fly 20-25 hours across long distances and frequently need to service the engine oil enroute. Especially so with the more tired engines. Turbine oil comes in cans, and since we have to go through security to get to a job, we don’t have tools. Fortunately the on-board crash axe is the PERFECT tool for the job. If you put one finger over the top hole, and move swiftly and smoothly into position and then release your finger - you can pretty easily hit the filler tube with little to no spillage 👍🏼 Unfortunately it’s not possible to do while also filming, so you’ll see no evidence of my (ahem) “perfect pour”

Attempt to get to Canada, part 2. After more than 13 hours stuck in Edinburgh airport and a plane that was clearly unfit to fly, we are waiting to take off for Montreal. Yesterday was like a comedy of errors. Why did Air Canada put us anywhere near that plane? In over 20 years of flying, I’ve rarely been more concerned about taking off in a plane. Worst of all, was the lack of info for passengers, many of whom had had the same flight cancelled the day before. No water offered in the plane for well over an hour -despite the searing temperatures. Numerous elderly folk were suffering in the heat. Several passengers were still waiting for their luggage past 9pm last night. Nobody had a clue what was going on. Many people had had no food since before 0900. Absolute shambles. Hope the Tartan Army lads make it to Miami ok!🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

As I told Elizabeth Warren TO HER FACE (check out her reaction) on the debate stage - all of them in Congress suck. I say vote for the best candidate in each race. Period. Once you remove the rhetoric - there really isn’t much difference between the two sides. Barack Obama bailed out the Wall Street Banks - as did George W. Bush Presidential Center. Ed Markey voted to bail them out as well - along with car manufacturers - airlines - and just about every other big industry. Notice how the coffee shop cafe or pizza place on Main Street never gets bailed out. I confronted Elizabeth Warren over the Epstein files long before others were raising the issue. See 👇 The Biden Administration wouldn’t release the files and here we are today - still waiting for millions of documents to be released and/or unredacted. I walked the picket line again this weekend with hotel housekeepers striking against inhumane treatment, including anti-strike violence by Fairmont Miramar Hotel in Los Angeles. Fairmont housekeepers clean 14 to 15 large rooms a day. The hotel, which cut staff during COVID, is now enjoying pre-COVID occupancy rates and profits but nevertheless wants to increase daily workloads to 18 rooms to compensate for understaffing. 3 out of every 5 workers is injured on the job each year due to repetitive lifting of heavy mattresses + bending to scrub and clean. Yes, you can really see the aurora with your eyes — but not always as brightly or colorfully as photos suggest. The vivid greens, purples, and reds often seen online are enhanced by camera sensors that collect light over long exposures.
