Rashid Khan, Afghanistan’s cricket star and a global icon of Afghan cricket, said during the Cricket World Cup that he hopes Afghanistan will one day field a national women’s cricket team. This is not the first time he has spoken out. After the fall of Afghanistan, Khan called for Afghan women and girls to be allowed their right to education. He emphasized that women should also have the chance to play cricket and that the ICC must take this issue seriously. Afghan women and girls deserve the opportunity to compete internationally, and their participation will not only strengthen Afghan cricket but also inspire a new generation of young female athletes across the country. Khan stressed that supporting women in sports and education is essential for Afghanistan’s future, and that opportunities should be available to all, regardless of the challenges the country currently faces.

We Support the Boycott of the Cricket Team : Despite the severe restrictions on sports, the systematic enforcement of gender apartheid, and widespread human rights violations by the Taliban, the Afghanistan cricket team has failed to take any steps in support of the Afghanistan people—especially women—over the past three years. Instead, they have directly or indirectly contributed to legitimizing and whitewashing the self-proclaimed Taliban regime. Such actions have tarnished the national identity of the team, leading many Afghanistan citizens to refer to it as the “Taliban Cricket Team.” While the achievements and reputation of the national cricket team are a national asset belonging to the citizens of Afghanistan, the team has been systematically exploited by the Taliban to advance their illegitimate and sinister objectives. This betrayal of national interests not only undermines the people of Afghanistan but also strengthens the Taliban's oppressive policies. We call for increased pressure and the imposition of comprehensive and meaningful sanctions on all parties and individuals lobbying for the Taliban or otherwise contributing to the whitewashing of this group. We firmly believe that the national interests of Afghanistan cannot be served through engagement with the Taliban or by legitimizing them. Instead, the true national interest lies in the overthrow of the Taliban’s self-imposed and illegitimate regime and the liberation of the Afghanistan people—especially women, vulnerable ethnic groups, and religious minorities—from their oppression. Therefore, we, as female athletes inside Afghanistan, support the boycott of the Afghanistan cricket team. We urge the International Cricket Council (ICC) and its members to take decisive and firm actions to prevent the Taliban from using this team as a tool for propaganda and to strengthen their political and media presence. We call upon all international organizations, sports institutions, and countries that uphold human values and justice to impose strong and comprehensive pressure on the Taliban and their supporters and to refrain from recognizing the self-declared Taliban regime. We emphasize that the Taliban are neither reformable nor capable of meaningful dialogue with the Afghanistan people. Bold claims from the organisation that has resisted calls for the Afghanistan men’s team to be barred from international cricket while Afghan women and girls suffer gross human rights abuses inflicted by the Taliban. On Wednesday 26 February England’s men walk onto the cricket pitch in Lahore to face Afghanistan’s men in the ICC Champion’s Trophy. It’s worth remembering that the Afghanistan women’s cricket team were forced to flee for their lives when the Taliban took control of their country. Living in exile in Australia they do not have the freedom to play international cricket. The ICC has taken a jobsworth approach to the problem. It’s more than their jobsworth to stand up for the women of Afghanistan despite the precedent of banning South Africa for 21 years over apartheid. One of our WRN Sports Group members has sent this update from ICC headquarters. The ICC has ignored its own moral code. We say to the world: don’t forget Afghan women.

Coffee Talk: Not many of you know my first career was in theatre and theatre education. I spent 20 years of my life educating, directing, acting, and writing in theater. Theater was once a male only profession where men wrote, directed, and acted. Female characters were written and acted by men training audiences to see women as objects of male interpretation. Dylan Mulvaney has made an entire career as acting as a male interpretation of a woman. He follows a long lineage of men who have made careers as female impersonators. It’s meta ironic that in a play that attempts to give voice to the invisible women who have viewed by history as just the wives of a famous man, the most iconic of those women is now being played by a MAN. Transgenderism is just the same old sexism rebranded.

Last night the Mr. and I went to the US Women’s National Team vs Japan in Seattle, the city that made Megan Rapinoe famous. On the team was Olivia Moultrie who had to sue the NWSL to fight for the same rights as boys, to play professional sports at 15! As is made clear by Moultrie’s case, sexism is something that women and girls in sports are STILL facing. Despite the disadvantages girls still face on the basis of sex, Rapinoe (who at the height of her career once lost to a boys under 15 team) wants to pull the ladder up after her and allow men and boys to compete in female sports if they claim to have identity issues. XX-XY Athletics made a great response to Rapinoe’s position. Thanks Jennifer Sey

Amer Khan, is standing for the "independent Candidate Alliance", a group overseen by weirdos Akhmed Yakoob and Shakeel Afsar, in the ward of North Edgbaston. He was among a group of supporters making a case at the time for Labour's Saqib Khan to take the seat. They were accompanied by Labour councillor, Mohammed Idrees, who was standing in nearby Alum Rock. Everywhere they go, the same, tribal politics.
