Sometimes one of the best paths to begin the healing journey is through our smiles, laughter and joy. I was blessed this past week to have the APALACHEE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM come visit me at the production soundstages I’ve been filming at here in Atlanta, Georgia. As the world knows, Apalachee High School in Winder, GA, has endured the unimaginable tragedy of a mass shooting. I didn’t know what to expect when I walked in to meet them - I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY by their spirit and energy. I looked these kids in their eyes and hugged ‘em - I know they’re in great pain, but man are they resilient and staying strong. It was as if they just needed a reason, an opportunity to just “let it all go” in this moment. As we said goodbyes, the last kid I hugged said, “we needed this Rock” (so did I) I can’t begin to imagine what these players and all the students, teachers & staff of Apalachee High are going through right now, but I’m here in any and every way I can be - to give my support and love to them and their families as they begin their healing journey. God bless you all. We Are One Apalachee. ps, I’m in touch with Coach Hancock and as promised, I’ll be there for your first home game.

How can players make a big jump next year?!?! For High School and College players… they all put in work with their coaches. Most of them have a trainer they see to put in work. So what is the separator? 1. Are you working on the right things with your coaches that are going to help you be a better player working your team and overall 2. HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU PUT IN THE GYM ON YOUR OWN. This is a HUGE SEPARATOR because this time isn’t dependent on anyone and is unlimited in how much you do. Almost every player I’ve worked with that has made a BIG JUMP has put in extra time on their own. It’s not only because of the work, but it also helps players understand their game better and gives them a bigger investment in their development. As a player you should assess that part of your development today!

INSPIRATIONAL: #Commanders safety Tyler Owens’ journey to the #NFL is absolutely remarkable. Owens was an ELITE prospect coming out of Plano East High School in Texas. He was a four-star recruit, an All-American, ran a ridiculous 10.35-second 100-meter dash and was ranked as one of the top safeties in the country. Tyler committed to TEXAS with massive expectations. But things never really took off. Owens spent THREE YEARS with the Longhorns and appeared in 27 games, but started just ONCE and recorded only 12 tackles. Football still has no use for most Black players beyond punditry - regardless of what they achieve - once they finish playing. CNN Sports And yes: • Yorke does have all of his qualifications. So do the other Black ex-pros on the market. • The likes of Kompany, Nuno and Vieira are far from the only Black ex-pros capable of leading teams. • A raft of players have been handed jobs without all their qualifications including Southgate, Shearer, Roeder, Beattie, Fabregas, Neil, Scholes, Will Still and many more. • Many Black ex-pros - Yorke included - still apply for jobs without receiving so much as an acknowledgment while the many of their white counterparts are handed jobs on a plate. It has to change.

What’s more: FCPS allegedly shut down the South County football program and let go ALL of the coaches until a new coach is named and removed access to coach access to Hudl, a video platform, hurting students who are being recruited by colleges. In June 2024, I began reporting a local high school story for the Fairfax County Times Pearl Project with sports reporter G, and it became Virginia’s biggest youth sports scandal: controversial recruiting practices at Hayfield Secondary School in Fairfax County Virginia that led to a wider community reckoning on the issue of integrity in sports and calls for the resignation of fcpssupt Michelle Reid for her mishandling of the case. Today, at South County High School in Lorton, Va., about 300 football players, athletes and students streamed out of Door No. 1 at 2 PM to march on Laurel Crest Drive, shouting, “Reinstate Coach P.” Last year, Pannoni and other coaches raised red flags about alleged recruitment problems at Hayfield, and the school district official told coach Pannoni on Friday that he had lost his job. Parents and coaches say they are hearing that Reid is allegedly planning to retaliate against all the coaches for embarrassing her. FCPS denies the charge. FCPS sent a media relations officer to follow the march. He sat in the back of an FCPS security cruiser. FCPS Superintendent Reid investigated Pannoni for an audio tape with parents, indelicately describing the Hayfield recruiting as akin to “grooming.” We have learned that the principal had allegedly told Pannoni that students didn’t feel “safe”around the coach. The students I interviewed reveal a different story: speaking about Pannoni’s positive impact on their lives. “We love Coach Pannoni,” said many a student. These naive people payed their hard earned money to watch their kids swing Propellers and Tilters and try and learn a swing that they think has made Aaron Judge a star. Just look at the 2nd kids swing and lack of balance and tell me he’s going to be successful with that. Remember Aaron Judge was a 3 sport star in High School and a 1st round draft pick before he met lil richie. The HeLP graveyard is filled with MLB & Minor League Baseball players who tried to swing like this and failed but if you look at lil dicks social media accounts all you see are videos of Aaron Judge and Kerry Carpenter. Adam Silver on tanking in the NBA: “In terms of the tanking, there’s no question that what we saw this season was unprecedented. You talked a lot about it. Your colleagues have talked a lot about it. Again, I think a bit of a group think there obviously by definition it can’t be successful for all the teams that were engaging in that strategy. But on the other hand the analytics which all the sports are using today suggest that it’s a potentially a winning strategy and that is to race to the bottom in order to get higher draft picks. I think it was a bit of perfect storm this year. You have a perception of a very deep draft class, which it appears to be some great players coming into the league. And then even fans in particular cities and even media in those cities to a certain degree were rooting for their teams to tank and saying, you know, how well can your team be managed if you’re sort of just in the middle? You either got to be great or you got to let yourself get bad. 🚨Unscripted: When the Truth Comes Full Circle During the Draft Process, we were fed the same recycled narrative. “No team wanted Shedeur Sanders.” “Anonymous insiders say 32 teams passed on him.” “Character concerns.” “System fit.” “Too much noise.” “Cocky. Brash. Arrogant.” Let’s pause right there, because even then, the math never math-ed. You want us to believe all 32 teams passed… while all 32 teams also didn’t need a quarterback? Make. That. Make sense. Now fast-forward. Here we are watching Sanders in Cleveland, smiling, more settled, seemingly at peace. New environment. New coaching. New chapter. And then comes the moment most people missed because they weren’t listening closely enough. A new coach in the Cleveland Browns, Todd Monken says something quietly, but powerfully: “I was going to draft you… but it all worked out.” Read that again. But win, lose or draw, no one has captivated college football like Coach Prime, Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter and Colorado. Colorado made $113.2 million from its 2023 home games alone, which led to a 51% increase in revenue through media rights with Coach Prime at the helm. Took multiple HBCU football players and helped coach them into high level Power 5 starters who have NFL futures. You see the thing about Coach Deion Sanders is he is just as misunderstood as he was as a player. With him, you earn what you get and every single player in his program knows that. On a deeper level, watching him coach his son’s is inspirational. What Deion and Lebron have done for their families and their son’s should be celebrated. As fathers they weren’t just there, they were active. They didn’t just have the title of baby daddy, they are fathers. Black Fatherhood has long been mischaracterized as absent and negative. Hexagons and Octagons Those who follow football and coaching will be well aware that there are trends that emerge and become the great break through in coaching, only to vanish quite quickly. A few stick around and become a staple. Such as the rondo, or the 4v4+4 Guardiola rondo variation. One that did not stick around in the coaching collective consciousness that possible should have was Thomas Tuchel’s use of hexagonal and octagonal playing areas in training sessions. Tuchel explained that cutting off the corners and angling the pitch forced “sharp diagonal” passes that would help break the press. The positioning of players outside the hexagon/octagon or players close to the edges will be manipulated into an open body shape by the angles of the pitch. Players are impacted by environmental constraints and embodied cognition, where the geography of the playing area influences their actions. This influence spreads to the creation of triangles and diamonds within the playing area due to the “funnel” like nature of the playing area. We can use the cut outside angles by placing bounce or target players on the exterior, influencing the movement and organisation internally. The inside players will not have to move wide as those areas are occupied. The internal players will seek to create passing angles using the positioning of the outside players and their internal team mates. The diamonds and triangles will appear. If we leave the spaces on the outside empty players can move to fill the spaces. These act as free spaces to receive from the goalkeeper or open spaces for attackers to overlap into, encouraging attacking combination play and crosses. A different way of using the space is to remove goals and goalkeepers from the ends and place bounce/target players on the outside. Players now can combine with the outside players, when they do so they are then free to finish into the outside goals. The condition can be extended to combining with the target player in the opposite side of the pitch before scoring, adding an element of switching play. The hexagon and octagon are versatile spaces that help to replicate aspects of the game. By funneling the spaces we impact players body shape, ability to play forward quickly, team shape (or small group shapes), players cutting in, defending centrally, the types of combination used and the angles of line breaking pass (diagonals). The angles are hugely significant for teams that value combinations and possession football, Straight passes and receiving angles are much easier to intercept and carry high risks for being counter attacked. Syracuse’s William Kyle III is one of the best Big Man Prospects in this year’s NBA Draft. For the season Kyle averaged 8/7/1 along with 2.5 BPG and 1 SPG, while also shooting 66% from the field. Kyle also led all High Major players in Stocks per game with 3.5. Standing at 6’9 with a 7’3 wingspan and a 44 inch vertical Kyle has the tools and frame you want from an elite defensive big in the NBA. Kyle’s mix of elite athleticism, rim protection, defensive versatility, offensive rebounding, finishing, and motor is all of the traits teams are looking for in their rim running bigs in Kyle is one of the best in the class in all of those areas. No. This year alone, 9 players are averaging: 25+ PPG 5+ APG 5+ RPG From 1990-2001, this happened only 9 times: Jordan (5 seasons) Drexler (1 season) Barkley (1 season) Hill (1 season) Kobe (1 season) Many fans claim players are far more superior, but in reality, four factors are inflating stats: 1. Officiating: The NBA allows more leeway on traveling, and refs heavily favor offense over defense. Players are going to the line more than ever (according to free throws per drive data), while offensive fouls are at an all-time low. Defensive 3 in the key and removal of physical hand checking has made driving easier than ever. 2. Analytics: Eliminating midrange shots and forcing far more 3-pointers has spiked scoring. 3. Pace: About 9 more possessions per game than in the 1990s. 4. There is an emerging epidemic that I believe will lead to the end of small school high school football, at least as we know it. This year, it appears lots of teams are having their seasons canceled by the subjective decision of almost always liberal female administrators. This is happening for several reasons… -Demographic drop off due to birth rates falling in 2008 -Fewer kids being willing to make a huge commitment for a team that is unlikely to win any sort of championship (and it has never been easier for a good player to transfer away from a school whose program isn’t expected to be great) -Parents being more afraid to let their kids play tackle football, and flag now being a viable competitive option -Liberal academics realizing that they can, under the guise of “safety,” kill off football, which they hate, as soon as a squad goes below 22 varsity players (which is absurd, especially when in almost all of these cases the kids and coaches wanted to still play) Once a season is canceled, a program is doomed because you can never again get kids in the future to make the huge commitment needed when they aren’t even confident that the administration won’t pull the plug on them in an act of safety virtue-signaling. This is also incredibly unfair to the opponents of the schools that end their season before it starts, because now those kids only get to play, if they are lucky, nine games. America is in the process of losing something unique, special, and important to our culture, especially in smaller towns. 😡🤮🥲

There was a young kid on the internet who told me that I use Ohio State Football for clout. I responded to him that “you have a firm grip on the obvious”. The young guy thought that he was clowning me and I had to help educate him that I was leveraging myself and my experiences there. When you’re former player on any team that you contributed to, it’s your responsibility to socialize, network, make yourself visible and create relationships for yourself after the game is done. The university isn’t looking to edify and connect with former players unless their connection helps the current state of football and its program. The university will typically allow you to come to practice, go to a golf outing to help them raise money or some other philanthropic event that they see benefits them and most athletes show up in the spirit of just wanting to be around. I see most looking for “someone to hook them up” or “do some favor” in exchange for little value. I’ve seen it for years. Most dudes just like to come around, get drunk and relive glory years. When I come around and associate myself with Ohio State Football I’m coming to do business. I’m going to phish for opportunities or I’m leveraging those old glory years stories for personal advancement. Every time the school references the 2002 National Championship they’re living off of contributions I made so I feel it’s only right to “Get Mine Regardless”. I don’t want any scraps. I don’t want to be some old has been. I don’t want to be an extra at someone’s golf course and I don’t want to be someone’s personal mascot. I show up to own, participate in equity groups and get all I can from my affiliation. I understand the social equity I’ve created over the years. I just had to educate myself enough and discipline myself enough to take advantage of it accordingly…. So to the young guy. I won’t say the jokes on you. I’ll say that you’re watching someone take advantage of something that very few former players know how to take advantage of. Shedeur Sanders may have fallen in the NFL Draft to the 5th round, but he is winning the hearts and minds of Cleveland Browns fans on and off the field. On the field at their mandatory mini camp in June, Shedeur went 41-for-53 with nine touchdowns and one interception during team drills. Shedeur had the highest completion percentage and the most TD passes of the Browns QBs competition over Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco, former 1st round pick Kenny Pickett and the talented Dillon Gabriel who was drafted before him in the same draft. All Shedeur has done is put in the work and be a good teammate. No complaining about reps. No complaining about where he is on the depth chart. Just work. Off the field, he has made it a point to connect and support his new community in Cleveland. He just went to the Garden Valley Fun Fest to talk and have fun with the community impacted by an explosion at the Rainbow Terrance Apartments that killed 1 and displaced over 100 people including 40 families. Before that, he went to speak to the youth at a Cleveland public school John Marshall High School about respecting themselves, respecting others and being a leader.
