We're not usually ones to celebrate British Army defectors - but for George Washington we make an exception! The first Commander and first President profoundly shaped the DNA of America, and today, a quarter of a millennium later, it is a country we are proud to call our closest friend. Which is why we were honoured to attend the rededication of Washington’s statue, back in its rightful place in Trafalgar Square, in the heart of London. At the event Glenn Youngkin, Governor of Virginia, USA, said: "Rededicating the gift of the George Washington statue from the Commonwealth of Virginia to the UK is a powerful reminder of the deep relationship between our two great nations.”

Today, the handmaid of God, Anastasia-Theodora, received the birth from above, of water and the Spirit, through the Mystery of Holy Baptism. Through the threefold immersion in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, she became a partaker of the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, then receiving the robe of light, the seal of the Gift of the Holy Spirit, and communion with the Body and Blood of the Lord. Congratulations to the parents who gave birth to her and to the godparents who received her as their spiritual daughter. Glory to the Holy Trinity for this new shoot in the vine of Christ’s Church. May the Lord and the Mother of God always keep her under their protection, and may she inherit the Kingdom of God!

Today in the heart of Ibadan, history came alive as we erected the statue of Balogun Ibikunle at Ẹ̀lẹyẹle Roundabout, the same route he once passed on his way to war. The monument was commissioned by the Olubadan of Ibadan alongside the representative of the state governor, with members of the Ibikunle family from home and abroad led by Oloye Abdul-Lateef Akintola Ibikunle. For us, this is more than a statue. It is a symbol of the bravery, sacrifice and legacy of our forefathers. Indeed, this is a proud time to come from Ibadan a city of warriors, culture and rich history.

It required the bravest and most steadfast, disciplined fighters to wage over a decade of continuous, protracted war of attrition against Russian, Iranian, Hezbollah, Iraqi, Pakistani, and Assadist sectarian forces. In the depths of the cold, on the tops of mountains, in the trenches, on the beaches, and across all the plains and topography of Syria—our land has been irrigated by the blood of our glorious martyrs. That is how Syria was liberated, and we will never stop honoring those who liberated us and those who paid the ultimate price. May Allah have mercy on all of our blessed martyrs.

I had the honor of representing President Joseph Aoun at the launch ceremony of the “Diplomatic Academy” at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, in the presence of the University President, Father Dr. Talal Hachem, along with a distinguished group of political, diplomatic, and academic figures. My sincere thanks to the Holy Spirit University for the importance of this event in the journey toward reviving Lebanese diplomacy and preparing professional diplomats specialized in international relations. As part of my address on behalf of the President, I noted: “There can be no stability or peace in our region without Lebanon, as a model of coexistence… We are now in a new era, an era of transition toward peace.” #USEK

I met with representatives of the American think tank Hudson Institute and informed them about the consequences of Russian strikes in recent days. In light of these attacks, it is particularly important to bolster Ukraine’s air defense, and we are grateful to the United States of America and to all caring Americans for their support of Ukraine, which we have felt throughout all the years of this full-scale Russian aggression. During the meeting, we discussed cooperation with the U.S. Congress, diplomatic work to achieve a dignified peace, and the importance of active U.S. participation in the negotiation process. We are counting on an end to the pause in the negotiations and the reinvigoration of diplomacy. This is important for saving the lives of our people and restoring security in Europe.

Almost 3 weeks ago, Charlie stood in front of General Douglas MacArthur’s statue in Incheon South Korea and read these words out loud: “There is no boundary in justice, nor is there any obstacle to struggle, mountain or sea. A man who executed such a struggle in the spirit of justice, to the triumph of the cause of the free world and to the gratitude and admiration of mankind, is the man whom this statue represents. General Douglas MacArthur was born in the United States of America on January 26, 1880, the second son of General Arthur MacArthur. A half-century military career, from second lieutenant to five-star general, studded with many brilliant actions, was crowned by the Japanese surrender and his appointment as Supreme Commander of the occupational forces in that defeated nation. With the surrender of Japan came Korean independence, but unfortunately the country became grievously divided. And worse, on June 25, 1950, the Communists from the North launched an attack against this Republic. Instantly, the American Government decided to come to our rescue and General MacArthur was ordered to command the forces joined in battle against the Communist aggressors. It was here at Inchon that we knew the incalculable height of his genius: with the infinite capacity of his vision he conceived, and on September 15, 1950, he personally executed an almost unbelievable landing operation, which instantly turned the course of the war to the triumph of freedom and the salvation of this Republic. This is a deed, and this is a man to hold eternally in honored memory. And thus it is by the authority and the contributions of a grateful people that the General Douglas MacArthur Statue Committee, consisting of representatives from all walks of life, has raised this figure fashioned in General MacArthur’s heroic mold by Professor Kyung Seung Kim to overlook this hallowed scene for all ages to come. We shall never forget what he and his valiant officers and men of the United Nations Command did here for us and for freedom.
